Second Sunday of Lent February 25, 2018

JMJ

February 25, 2018 My Dearest Parish Family, God be with us always.

Let me ask you this, have you responded yet to the invitation of Jesus? If you think I am referring just to the PSA Appeal, then you are mistaken. I am referring to the invite to enter into the Spirit of Lent that began last Ash Wednesday. Committing to participate in the PSA is just one of the ways we can practice caring for each other in a concrete way to people in need who are right in the our own Diocese, our own county.

During Advent and Lent, I ask myself what is my story? Where is God leading me? What is God teaching me? How is God transforming me? I also have had a refrain I tell myself which is: “And so it begins.”

When God calls us through the Prophet Joel, “Come back to me with all your heart.” It is said with compassion and such longing to help us become better and be transformed by grace. Lent is not just about examining our lives – realizing our sins, our weaknesses, our faults. It is about learning to be open to the guidance of the Spirit towards a change of lifestyle, of living that practices our faith, hope and love.

True faith involves entering deeper into the relationship with God through prayer. This helps us discern what to do beyond merely being forgiven to being transformed by the experience of God’s mercy. During Lent we have added a Wednesday 6:00 pm Mass so that those who are pressed for time in the mornings can come in the evenings to be with the Lord in the Eucharist.

We also have our Weekly Stations of the Cross every Friday afternoon and

evening in English and Spanish that has the Lenten Dinners in between the two prayer events. We have distributed the books of Reflections for Lent that is a source for prayer and meditation.

By this time, we have physically began the construction of our Patio-Parish Hall Annex, which hopefully will be finished before summer. We need you full support to see it to its completion. Working together, this will be one of our legacies to the future members of our Parish Family. Thank you for all your help. God bless and take care.

Love and prayers,

Fr. Thomas Paul K. Naval

¿A dónde

Fr. Thomas Paul K. Naval

PASTORAL SERVICES APPEAL (PSA) 2018

Last weekend, many of our Parishioners made a

pledge and initial payment for this years PSA Campaign “We Are One”, which helps support

diocesan ministries in many ways. If you have not made yours, please prayerfully consider the

amount of your pledge. Envelopes are found in the pews and may be dropped off in the reception

office today! Together we are united in the Catholic faith knowing that through your

generosity many people will be served. Thank you for your participation in the life of Santiago de

Compostela and the Diocese of Orange.

Foreign Currency and Tithing

From time to time we receive foreign currency in our Sunday collection. Unfortunately, we are not able to deposit foreign monies with our bank. We dislike to

throw away currency just because it is of no use to the parish when we know it has value elsewhere, so we ask

you to please refrain from contributing with foreign coin. We appreciate our parishioner’s time, talent, and

U.S. treasure!

PARISH MEMBER UPDATES

In the process of updating our parish database, please update any changes to your personal information (phone number, email address, address, etc.). Those members who have not contributed time, talent or treasure within the last five years, January 1, 2012 to December 31, 2017, will be inactivated from our database. To update your information or if you have been inactive but want to remain a parish member, please contact the parish office.

Your support of this appeal helps ease the struggle of these dioceses. Please prayerfully consider how you can support this appeal. More information can be found at www.usccb.org/home-missions.

Second Sunday of Lent February 25, 2018

In Acts 20:7-12, we have the story of Eutychus whose name means “Lucky”. He is the young man who was sitting on a window sill and fell asleep while Paul was talking. He fell from the third story of the building and when picked up was dead. Paul threw himself upon him and told everyone not to be alarmed as there was still life in him. This happened on the first day of the week and Paul celebrated this day with breaking of bread, and long conversation before he departed. The boy was taken away ALIVE!

JR HIGH MINISTRY What is our JR HI Ministry up to lately? With Lent approaching, we took a trip to our local Catholic Worker Isaiah House Homeless Shelter in Santa Ana. Our students packed a breakfast meal for the ladies who reside there. We felt honored to meet and chat with folks during breakfast. Residents have no other place to live due to lack of money, loss of jobs, extreme medical expenses, or other crisis in their lives. Our students enjoyed being there and reflected: “I learned so much about my community and its needs. It gave me a sense of pride and helpfulness by giving food to these nice ladies. I believe it was a once in a lifetime experience for me, and I will never forget any of them, especially Mary (name changed) she was super nice.” Another wrote, “I enjoyed my stay at Isaiah House-- I’ve learned about the many good people there. I hope I can come again and help.”
