This Annual Report for Fiscal Year Ending June 30, 2015 is a

witness to the love and dedication of supporters of Children’s

Home of Northern Kentucky just like you.

Since 1882, private citizens, community leaders, businesses,

faith communities and civic partners throughout Northern

Kentucky have bound themselves together in addressing the

needs of neglected, abused, and at-risk youth in the care of

Children’s Home of Northern Kentucky. This document

captures more than just numbers. It captures that which is

profoundly beautiful in our world: men and women from all

backgrounds coming together in community to lift the human

spirit of the weak, the marginalized, and those who su�er.

The members of the Board of Trustees, the Junior Board, and

sta� of CHNK thank all of those who have shared so generously

from their financial resources and schedules this past fiscal

year. You have built bridges to opportunity and hope in ways

that you may never fully realize. Because you believe that the

bad things that happen in life will not have the last word, CHNK

Children’s Home of Northern Kentucky is governed by a Board of Trustees. Each

trustee serves for a minimum term of three years. Individuals nominated to serve

on the Board of Trustees are chosen based on their exhibited concern for

children and families of the community, their community leadership and

involvement, their ability to provide responsible financial direction and assistance,

and abilities, attributes, or assets that will help CHNK further its mission.

Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) have skill sets relevant to at least one of the

standing committees of the CHNK Board of Trustees and serve at the pleasure

of the Board.

PROGRAM METRICS

August 2014CHNK launches a Therapeutic Day School in partnership with Covington Independent Public Schools (CIPS). The school o�ers academic services for 100 at-risk middle and high school students in CIPS, as well as therapeutic interventions to address behavioral health issues. September 2014CHNK is presented with a check for $1.5 Million on behalf of the Substance Abuse Treatment Advisory Committee (SATAC); the funding helps CHNK establish, in part, the first and currently only adolescent substance use treatment beds in Northern Kentucky.

November 2014The $5.6M renovation project, focused on the historic administration building on CHNK’s Devou Park campus, begins drawing to a conclusion. The refurbished

building houses the therapeutic day school, complete with state-of-the-art classrooms, a computer lab, and a student learning kitchen, as well as administrative o�ces, conference rooms that allow for telehealth and telepsychiatry sessions, and a meeting and events center that establishes a new revenue stream for the Home.

January 2015CHNK begins pursuing its All Children, All Families certification, which is a program dedicated to the care of LGBTQ youth. February 2015CHNK begins the three-year process of implementing the Sanctuary Model, which is a blueprint for clinical and organizational change that, at its core, promotes safety and recovery from adversity through the active creation of a trauma-informed community.

March 2015The Deaconess Health Check at CHNK campus opens at 525 W. Fifth Street in Covington, KY. Funded in part by the Deaconess Associations Foundation, the o�ce suite allows for the expansion of CHNK’s community-based services. New services include outpatient, intensive outpatient, and aftercare treatment for at-risk youth, including those battling addiction.

April 2015The Carol Ann & Ralph V. Haile, Jr./U.S. Bank Foundation awards CHNK a $1 Million grant to o�set expenses related to the administration building renovation project; the gift becomes the largest single gift given to CHNK in its 133-year history.

June 2015The Kentucky Board of Education recognizes the Therapeutic Day School as an “Alternative Program of Distinction.”
