A. Context
The Boston Tea Party was an act of defiance against the British. . . Why?
Glad you asked, That is because it was a destruction of Private Property which went against the Unalienable Rights.
B. Thesis
The Thesis is that the Boston Tea Party affects us today because we embody the same fight we had in 1773.
C. Time and Important People The Boston Tea Party took place on December 16, 1773
in the Boston Harbor.
The Boston Tea Party consisted of men who owned businesses that were being taxed by the British.
Many of these men disguised themselves as Indians so they would not be recognized and punished for their actions.
C. Time and Important People
George Robert Twelves Hewes- a shoemaker
Hewes was the last known survivor of the Boston Tea Party and the Boston Massacre.
Hewes told James Hawkes what he recalled about the events that took place on December 16, 1773.
C. Time and Important People “It was now evening, and I immediately dressed myself
in the costume of an Indian, equipped with a small
hatchet, which I and my associates denominated the
tomahawk, with which, and a club, after having painted
my face and hands with coal dust in the shop of a
blacksmith, I repaired to Griffins wharf, where the ships
lay that contained the tea. When I first appeared in the
street, after being thus disguised, I fell in with many who
were dressed, equipped and painted as I was, and who
fell in with me, and marched in order to the place of our
destination. . .
C. Time and Important People
. . .When we arrived at the wharf, there were three of our
number who assumed an authority to direct our
operations, to which we readily submitted.” –Hewes
describes this to Hawke, which was restored by Alfred
Young.
