What do you need?

• Stretch your paper by wetting it with water thoroughly on both sides using a large brush.

• Smooth it out with your hands until completely flat.

• Tape it down to the board using masking tape. Tape one side down at a time while pulling the paper taut.

• Dab off any standing water with a paper towel.

• Let the paper dry overnight.

Prepare Watercolor Paper

The stretching process will ensure that your paper is flat and unwrinkled, giving you an optimal surface to paint on.

The stretched watercolor paper will accept paint more evenly.

The finished painting will be flatter and less wrinkled.

What is a Crayon resist?

The word resist is used to describe the action in which two materials or media repel each other either chemically or physically.

In this art piece we are using crayon wax and watercolor to resist each other and repel.

We will use crayon to outline the design, and then the watercolor will be painted over the whole design.
