A note from the

Main Office

As the semester comes to a close now is a great time to check your student’s ac-count for any fines or fees they may have incurred. Many parents don’t realize that they can access this information along with a lot of other useful information through the new InTouch System, which can be accessed through Sky- ward or the LHS website.

Seniors must have all fines paid in order to participate in graduation.

If you need help setting up an account or have forgotten your log-in, please call the Main office at 425-431-7520.

Those who still have elevator cards checked out, will be charged $10.00

No checks will be accepted after 6/1. Af-ter then, we will take credit, debit or cash only.

From the desk of Mike Piper ~

Hello Royal Families,

The end of the 2018-19 school year has arrived so very quickly. It seems like homecoming was only a few days ago and now, here we are, preparing to say goodbye to another year of school. Looking back, I am proud of everything our students were able to accomplish, and the hard work you and our staff put into supporting them. Lynnwood continues to be a school where we can all take great pride in being a part of.

I know that for many we will all be back together in the fall ready to take on another school year filled with new challenges, goals, celebrations, and high levels of student learning. For some though, this may be your final days as a student or family member of an LHS student.

With that in mind, I thought I would close this mes-sage and our year with a poem I shared with our sen-iors as they head off to their next station in life. If you have ever been in my office you may recognize these words. I first heard them as a student from one of my favorite teachers. When I taught, I always ended the year reading it with my classes. So now, as your prin-cipal, I’d like to share it with you…

You were born with potential

You were born with goodness and trust

You were born with ideals and dreams

You were born with greatness

You were born with wings

You are not meant for crawling, so don’t

You have wings

Learn to use them and fly

A Special $25 price for Summer School! The Edmonds School district is offering summer classes for $25 for all credit retrieval classes. For stu-

dents on Free/Reduced lunch it’s only $10. So if your student needs credits, go to the Edmonds School

District Website and get enrolled!

Graduating Seniors – if you don’t need your cap and gown (or even just the gown) after graduation,

please return it to LHS. Your generosity will be appreciated.

Seniors – Class of 2019

Graduation is just around the corner! Although it is an exciting time for seniors, it can be quite stressful

as well. In order for seniors to receive their diplomas, they must do the following:

Complete and pass all core and required classes

Earn a minimum of 22 credits

Pay all fines

Pass the SBA English Language Arts, or state approved alternative

Pass the SBA Math exam

If you have a question about progress in specific classes, please feel free to contact your student’s

teachers directly. Voice and Email addresses are available on our website https://

lhs.edmonds.wednet.edu/about_us/staff_directory.

REMEMBER…

Even if your senior has already been accepted to a college or university, now is NOT the time to give in

to “Senioritis.” We will mail out final transcripts after graduation to all universities. It is not unheard of

for an acceptance to be rescinded due to poor performance during the last semester of high school.

Juniors – Class of 2020

SAT & ACT INFORMATION

Hopefully, college bound juniors have already taken the ACT or SAT, or are taking one in June, as regis-

tration deadlines have already passed. If not, sign up for one in the Fall.

SAT Test Dates/Deadlines: Visit https://www.collegeboard.org/ for registration information

ACT Test Dates/Deadlines: Visit www.act.org for registration information

The College Board and Khan Academy are offering free practice resources for all students for the SAT

exam.

There is also free test prep on the testing websites and at https://www.number2.com/

College Visits

Plan some visits to college campuses this summer! Check online to see if there are summer tours and

go see what it feels like to walk around a campus. Check out their facilities: dining hall, dorms, and

athletic facilities. If you can’t visit, at least do some research and make a list of where you want to ap-

ply. Include tuition costs, living costs, size of city, proximity to home, weather, size of classes, course

offerings, extracurricular opportunities, etc. You should have a list of 8 to 10 schools by mid-

September.

Running Start

Students planning to take courses at Edmonds Community College through Running Start for Fall

Quarter should apply soon. Registration began May 21st, so hurry to get the classes you want. Counse-

lors will be out of the office over the summer, so don’t wait. See your counselor for details!

Sophomores - class of 2021

Check your graduation requirements and make sure you’re signed up for the right classes.

More Education Means More Money

You will earn more if you have more education. You will also be less likely to become unemployed.

A survey from 2015 shows that average earnings grow from $493 to $678 per week, just by earning a

high school diploma. Getting a college Bachelor's degree increases average earnings to $1,137 per

week.

More education pays off in higher earnings.

Note: Data are for persons age 25 and over. Earnings are for full-time wage salary workers.
