Will Rogers Block Party 2016 Saturday, July 23 - 9:00 a.m. to Noon
Over the past year several volunteers have taken a few
hours per week to tutor and read with the students at
Will Rogers. This summer we would like to make our
presence and neighborly interest known to a wider
audience at Will Rogers. This Saturday, July 23, we
will be hosting a morning of fun, food, and faith on the campus of Will Rogers.
We would like to offer free back packs, organized games, puppet Bible stories,
and a free hotdog lunch. The congregation can help with the following:
Donate a new inexpensive ($10-$15) back pack—drop off at church by July 20
Clip Boards for sign ups are available in the foyer.
Volunteer to help with games—see Bobby Alsup
Volunteer to hand out back packs, water, and information about our church
Volunteer to do follow up—see BJ
Sign up with the school to volunteer
Wednesday - July 20 We are asking for volunteers to walk the immediate
neighborhood around the school to pass out “door hang-
er flyers” and to invite folks to join us. We will have a
supper prepared by Mike Hirsch and crew from 6:00-
6:45p.m. and then crews will walk the neighborhood
from 7:00-7:45 p.m.
We also hope to gather a few dozen new backpacks to
give away to students that morning. If you are out
shopping and see a great deal on a backpack, grab one
in anticipation of this day. And then make plans to join
us for the fun on Saturday, July 23.

Spiritual Disciplines
The spiritual discipline of prayer is
our topic on Wednesdays for the
next few weeks. A very handy re-
source for prayer is to think of the
ACTS of Prayer. Adults as well as
children can practice this simple reminder. A is for Adoration, Psalms 145
C is for Confession, Psalms 51
T is for Thanksgiving, Psalms 100

NGCS Extension Center: Winyo Mission Center, Rongo, Kenya
This center is a strong vibrant force in this remote rural area on west Kenya. It pro-vides support to numerous area churches and to the local community. Training is provided for church and leaders for both Bible knowledge and leadership skills providing unity and stability among the area churches. Through partnership with Healing Hands Intl, training in sustainable agriculture skills and practices offers some alleviation of poverty and family stability.
One of the strong ministries at the center is the Winyo Christian Academy (WCA), founded in 1998.
WCA provides students with a quality, Christian education by fifteen dedicated, well-trained teachers and six support staff members. WCA now serves over 335 students from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade.
December 2007 saw the first graduation of WCA eighth graders. These students scored exceptionally high on their secondary education entrance exams, with a 99% pass rate. There is also a renovated church on the premises where the entire community can wor-ship together.
Over 115 orphans attend WCA, and the number is always growing. Some of these chil-dren have lost both parents and are living with a well-wisher from the community, and some have lost one parent who can no longer afford their children’s basic needs, includ-ing education. Many of these parents passed away from curable diseases like malaria and pneumonia.
The Winyo Orphan Sponsorship program at Forest Home church of Christ provides these orphans with tuition, two meals a day, and two uniforms for only $150 annually. There is no administration fee-100% of the sponsorship goes toward the orphans’ edu-cational expenses. Sponsors send their orphans letters quarterly and receive annual up-dates.
