The Basement I always hated being part of the night shift. But I have no choice, I went on duty from 11pm to 7am. Our clinical instructor told us to be 30 minutes ahead of time. And so, as early as 10pm with my uniform on and some o f my paraphernalias needed, I walked along a dim road just like a midnight-sale shopper slash white lady with my white uniform. I would probably scare anyone in this. There were scanty of people passing by this road for its a little late and that its cold and slightly raining. The weather was horrible, its seems l ike its telling me something creepy would happen tonights shift. I was the only person walking along the pavement, the hospital was just a half kilometer away from my boarding house. When I entered the hospital, there were only few nurses around and as I was about to walk in to the elevator, I glanced at the stairs going down the basement. It was dark. The basement was just beside the hospital morgue and its really scares me going there at night. How I wish my patients not for any laboratory test I prayed. Then I arrived at the co nference room at the 3 rd floor. I was the third person to arrive. After some time, our c linical instructor and some of the night shifters arrived. Then we went on duty at the ward after some instructions given. There were only 8 patients at the ward and we are 9. So, Micheal and Suzzanne shared the same patient. Okay, Micheal and Suzzanne, you will be handling patient J.K who is for U/A. Micheal, you need to give the specimen at the laboratory after the endorsement the clinical instruc tor said during the endorsement. Whew! Good thing I wasnt assigned to that patient. I said to myself. And so, Micheal went down the basement t o deliver the urine specimen. H e came back too long. Where have you been? asked our clinical instructor, appearing annoyed. Im sorry sir, I have to led a hand to one of the I.W (worker at the hospital). He asked me to help him carry a big mirror to the basement. I barely heard Micheals reason, because Im at my patients bedside. It was about 2:30 am when my clinical instructor handed me a specimen bottle. Your patient is for U/A , collect the specimen now and deliver it to the basement. I was shocked about the instruction, thinking its not the right time to collect a specimen this early hour. But it gives me no choice. And so, I went down to the basement carrying the specimen bottle after I collected it. I was really hesitant though Micheal told me that theres someone there and that the basement is well lighted because an I.W was assigned there. Then I arrived at the basement. I was the only passenger in the elevator, it slowly op ened up and everything was so dark, the only lighted part is the elevator which I was in. I was scared the first place. But theres no turning back. I took a deep breath while reciting the Psalm 23:1 ( the Lord is my shepherd I shall not want ). I moved slowly towards the laboratory room with my eyes close. I felt my body perspire and my heart pounding. The only thing I can hear is my lub dub for it was every quite, like a hollow cave. Then, I felt something at my feet. The Basement

I always hated being part of the night shift. But I have no choice, I went on duty from 11pm to

7am. Our clinical instructor told us to be 30 minutes ahead of time. And so, as early as 10pm with my

uniform on and some of my paraphernalias needed, I walked along a dim road just like a midnight-sale

shopper slash white lady with my white uniform. I would probably scare anyone in this. There were

scanty of people passing by this road for its a little late and that its cold and slightly raining. The

weather was horrible, its seems like its telling me something creepy would happen tonights shift.

I was the only person walking along the pavement, the hospital was just a half kilometer away

from my boarding house. When I entered the hospital, there were only few nurses around and as I was

about to walk in to the elevator, I glanced at the stairs going down the basement. It was dark. The

basement was just beside the hospital morgue and its really scares me going there at night. How I wish

my patients not for any laboratory test I prayed. Then I arrived at the conference room at the 3rd

floor.

I was the third person to arrive. After some time, our clinical instructor and some of the night shifters

arrived. Then we went on duty at the ward after some instructions given. There were only 8 patients at

the ward and we are 9. So, Micheal and Suzzanne shared the same patient.

Okay, Micheal and Suzzanne, you will be handling patient J.K who is for U/A. Micheal, you need to give

the specimen at the laboratory after the endorsement the clinical instructor said during the

endorsement. Whew! Good thing I wasnt assigned to that patient. I said to myself.

And so, Micheal went down the basement to deliver the urine specimen. He came back too

long.

Where have you been? asked our clinical instructor, appearing annoyed.

Im sorry sir, I have to led a hand to one of the I.W (worker at the hospital). He asked me to help him

carry a big mirror to the basement.

I barely heard Micheals reason, because Im at my patients bedside. It was about 2:30 am when my

clinical instructor handed me a specimen bottle. Your patient is for U/A, collect the specimen now and

deliver it to the basement. I was shocked about the instruction, thinking its not the right time to collect

a specimen this early hour. But it gives me no choice. And so, I went down to the basement carrying the

specimen bottle after I collected it. I was really hesitant though Micheal told me that theres someone

there and that the basement is well lighted because an I.W was assigned there.

Then I arrived at the basement. I was the only passenger in the elevator, it slowly opened up

and everything was so dark, the only lighted part is the elevator which I was in. I was scared the first

place. But theres no turning back. I took a deep breath while reciting the Psalm 23:1 ( the Lord is my

shepherd I shall not want ). I moved slowly towards the laboratory room with my eyes close. I felt my

body perspire and my heart pounding. The only thing I can hear is my lub dub for it was every quite,

like a hollow cave. Then, I felt something at my feet. I tried to kick it, but its still there. This time Im

freezing. I opened my eyes slowly and I saw a shape of a girl slightly covered with shadow, shes wearing

white and she was holding something in her hand. I was shocked. My heart suddenly stopped beating, I

couldnt move. I screamed. Screamed from the top of my lungs, Ahhhhh!!!!Ahhhhhh!!! hoping I could

drove away the demon, but the girl was still there. How I wish I could run, but I cant feel my feet and

Im still screaming ahhhh!!. Then suddenly the lights turned on, and I heard someone talk, but Im still

closing my eyes.

what is the matter with you? says the voice, just beside me. Then I opened my eyes and I saw the I.W

and a big mirror in front of me.

I thought I saw someone. I responded with my voice still shking.

Well then, thats the mirror in front of you. Pointing on the big mirror and I realize it was really me.

I was sleeping here, and then you suddenly screamed. I turn off the lights so no one could see me

sleeping, or else Ill get fired continue the I.W

I felt relieved and I immediately placed the specimen in the laboratory. I went in the elevator without

saying a word to the I.W.

Again, I was the only passenger, I realized what had happened to me in the basement. It was quite

embarrassing, I laughed and laugh again. I realized how would I be very scared with my own

reflection?haha
