Volume 7, Number 5 Radio Maria USA May 2014
A Newsletter for Radio Maria USA -- National
Celebrating Our Two Newest SaintsIt’s hard to imagine a more his-
toric event in our Catholic Church than the one that took place recent-ly in St. Peter’s Square: Two Popes of modern times declared Saints with two living Popes to celebrate this Solemn Liturgy. St. John XXIII set the Stage for a new springtime of renewal and Evangelization for all Catholics and the world. St. John Paul II carried out this great endeavor for over 25 years under the banner of the “New Evangeliza-tion.” And all of this on Divine Mercy Sunday! How blessed we are to witness such a joyful moment in the life of the Church.
And yet, we can rejoice even more-- because we have the privi-lege of proclaiming this New Evan-gelization as part of the universal
instrument called Radio Maria. Our Lady has entrusted this mis-sion of Hers to us—to continue to bring the Word of Her Son to many more people on earth.
This month we will invite you to participate in this World-Wide Mis-sion through the second annual World Wide Mariathon. This Proj-ect will help to bring Radio Maria to 11 new networks in Developing countries. “Let’s help Our Lady to help us!” is the theme and we invite you to join us May 9-11 with special programming for this World Wide Mariathon.
May this month of Our Lady bring many blessings to you and yours. May she help us to help her keep Radio Maria growing in the world! -- Father Robert Young

SAINTSJohn Paul II AND JOHN XXIII
“I would like to take this time to say thank you and bless you for the work you are doing for the Lord. All my life I searched for this -- God’s Divine Will -- that I left the Church for 14 years. I was out there in the world hungry for the Lord. It was when I came back that God gave me all what I wanted and need. His love, His Will and His mercy. Thank you and bless you.” -- Linda
“Pete and I will pray for all of you as you work next week to raise money for Radio Maria. God bless your work.” --Pete & Valerie
“Many thanks and special bless-ings to Radio Maria and all who work for her. Also to the many volunteers who generously sac-rifice their time. I’ve learned so much from you all. May God con-tinue to provide all that is needed
to keep Radio Maria on the air.” -- Sonya
“Thank you so much for your love and devotion. We love the Ro-sary and Chaplets said every day. We love the discussions about what the commandments mean and what sins we need to con-fess. We love Fr. John Fletcher and all the wonderful priests who explain topics like abortion, sexu-ality, etc. Thank you also for all the others who are not priests but do the same work.” With great love and prayers, -- Bruce and Gloria, Marksville, La. “Thank you for distributing your post cards to different parishes and states. I am originally from Al-exandria (born and raised there). My father, Frank B., is a member of the Knights of Columbus and he adores Radio Maria as well as

April 2, 2014 Message to Mirjana
“Dear children, with a motherly love I desire to help you with your life of prayer and penance to be a sincere attempt at draw-ing closer to my Son and His
divine light - that you may know how to separate yourselves from sin. Every prayer, every Mass and every fasting is an attempt at drawing closer to my Son, a re-minder of His glory and a refuge from sin - it is a way to a renewed union of the good Father and His children. Therefore, my dear chil-dren, with hearts open and full of love, cry out the name of the Heavenly Father that He may il-luminate you with the Holy Spirit. Through the Holy Spirit you will become a spring of God’s love. All those who do not know my Son, all those thirsting for the love and peace of my Son, will drink from this spring. Thank you. Pray for your shepherds. I pray for them and I desire that they may always feel the blessing of
his Catholic faith. He has told me so many beautiful things that he has heard on Radio Maria. Thank you for sharing so much with ev-eryone! I look forward to receiving my rosary!” -- Anna

April 25, 2014 Message to Marija
“Dear children! Open your hearts to the grace which God is giving you through me, as a flower that opens to the warm rays of the sun. Be prayer and love for all those who are far from God and His love. I am with you and I intercede for all of you before my Son Jesus, and I love you with immeasur-able love. Thank you for having responded to my call.”

Father Robert said that as our world becomes ever smaller through mass media and means of commu-nication, we have the opportunity to help more and more people to know God’s love and mercy.
This instrument of the New Evangelization was inspired by Pope John Paul II when he pre-sented this challenge to the Church in 1987.
Now just 27 years later, Radio Maria extends over 5 continents, 65 countries, 40 languages. Radio Maria is sustained by the prayer, sacrifice, and contributions of its lis-teners.

Devotion to Mary as Queen of Apostles is one of the oldest devotions in the Church. After Christ and with Christ, Mary is the Apostle. God contin-ues to give all graces through Mary, just as He willed that Christ should come to us through Mary: “born of a woman.” (Gal 4:4) Every apostolate and every true apostle has life and action from Mary. So it was of Christ: “ ... Jesus, the apostle and high priest of our confession.” (Heb 3:1) Christ began his apostolate through Mary at Cana; the mission of the apostles was begun through Mary in the cenacle. Likewise, through the centuries all apostolates have received their origin and strength through Mary. With-out God, nothing exists; without Mary, nothing in Christ and in the Church.
The feast of the Queen of Apostles was established on the first Saturday after the Ascension by the Sacred Congregation of Rites at the request of the Pallottine Fathers. Mary initiated her mission as Queen of Apostles in the Cenacle. She gathered the apostles together, comforted them, and assisted them in prayer. Together with them she hoped, desired and prayed; with them her petitions were heeded and she received the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost. Mary is Queen of Apostles because she was chosen to be the Mother of Jesus Christ and to give him to the world; she was made the apostles’ Mother and our own by our Savior on the cross. She was with the apostles while awaiting the descent of the Holy Spirit, obtaining for them the abun-dance of supernatural graces they received on Pentecost. The most holy Virgin was and always will be the wellspring for every apostolate.
Day 1
“I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will strike your head, and you will strike his heel.” (Gen 3:15)
Through God’s loving foresight, Mary was placed, so to speak, on a path different from that on which all the common children of Eve, born with original sin, entered the world. The new path is that of the redeemed. The light of the cross illumined Mary’s conception, infancy and youth. Thus, she was worthy to be blessed among women.
Together let us honor Mary Immaculate, Queen of Apostles, and ask her to give Jesus, Master, Way, Truth and Life, to all of us and to all people on earth.
Reflection and ResolutionPrayer--O God, You sent the Holy Spirit upon the apostles as they were united in prayer with Mary, the Mother of Jesus. May the Queen of Apos-tles, the same Mother of us all, help us to serve Your majesty faithfully, and to spread the glory of Your name by word and example. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.(Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be)Queen of Apostles, pray for us.
Day 2
“The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore, the child to be born will be holy; he will be called Son of God.” (Lk 1:35)
The grace in a soul is like a root from which a plant develops with its branches, leaves, flowers and fruits. Virtues grow in a soul in proportion to grace. Thus, we understand why Mary reached the highest degree of virtue and holiness: because she was full of grace. She possessed the theological, cardinal and moral virtues, the beatitudes and the fruits of the Holy Spirit to an eminent degree. Mary is full of grace, the creature most intimate with God, the Blessed Mother who gives Jesus to us and helps us to love Him. She makes us conceive a great fear of sin and of dangerous occasions. She inspires in us the desire for purity and for sacrifice.
Our Lady, Queen of ApostlesFeast Day is Saturday, May 31
Our Lady, Queen of Apostles Novena
Friday, May 23 - Saturday, May 31
Day 3
“She gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in bands of cloth, and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.” (Lk 2:7) Mary fulfills her apostolate: to give Jesus to the Father, to human-ity, to heaven. She presented Jesus to the Gentiles, represented by the Magi who came to the crib in Bethlehem. Mary always gives Jesus. She is like a fruitful branch. She always carries Jesus and offers him to us: the Way, the Truth and the Life of humanity. Let us pray to Mary, the Mother of the infant Jesus, that through her ma-ternal intercession we may all welcome the message from the crib: “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace among those whom he favors!” (Lk 2:14)
Reflection and ResolutionPrayer sent the Holy Spirit upon the apostles as they were united in prayer with Mary, the Mother of Jesus. May the Queen of Apostles, the same Mother of us all, help us to serve Your majesty faithfully, and to spread the glory of Your name by word and example. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.(Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be)Queen of Apostles, pray for us.
Day 4
“This child is destined for the falling and the rising of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be opposed...and a sword will pierce your own soul too.” (Lk 2:34-35) Jesus Christ saw Mary at the foot of His cross, sharing in his passion. The Christian possesses an inexhaustible strength and is able to endure great sufferings without breaking. In suffering, a person can attain great nobility of character; indeed, suffering becomes a real apostolate. Let us always trustfully invoke Mary: “Pray for us, now and at the hour of our death.” All to Mary, from Mary, with Mary. She shows everyone on earth her Son. Let us pray: “After this our exile, show to us the blessed fruit of your womb, Jesus.”
Day 5
“His mother treasured all these things in her heart.” (Lk 2:51)
The presentation of the Lord enlightens us to live in holiness, detachment from worldly things, and purity of thoughts and actions. The child Jesus enters the temple, takes possession of it and will live in the Eucharist until the end of time. Once we have known our vocation, we must follow it and live it faithfully until we are called to heaven.
Reflection and ResolutionPrayer--O God, You sent the Holy Spirit upon the apostles as they were
united in prayer with Mary, the Mother of Jesus. May the Queen of Apos-tles, the same Mother of us all, help us to serve Your majesty faithfully, and to spread the glory of Your name by word and example. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.(Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be)Queen of Apostles, pray for us.
Day 6
“Standing near the cross of Jesus were his mother, and his mother’s sis-ter, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene.” (Jn 19:25)
Let us look at Jesus--He sacrificed Himself on the cross. Let us look at Mary--she shared Christ’s mission and passion with Him. The essence of the redemption is on Calvary--Jesus offers Himself; Mary offers herself and her Son, whom she loves more than herself. Jesus is the Redeemer; Mary, the co-redemptrix.
Day 7
“When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing be-side her, he said to his mother, ‘Woman, here is your son’. Then he said to the disciple, ‘Here is your mother’.” (Jn 19:26-27)When human perversity had reached its height and had brought about the death of our Lord, when the Shepherd was smitten and the entire flock of apostles and faithful were dispersed, Jesus Christ offered hope, salvation, his Mother: “Here is your mother.” (Jn 19:26)
Day 8
“All these were constantly devoting themselves to prayer, together with certain women, including Mary the mother of Jesus, as well as his broth-ers.” (Acts 1:14) It is clear that we have to consider and follow Mary as our model. She is the most holy Virgin, the co-redemptrix and the Queen of Apostles. She offered Jesus on Calvary, and together with the apostles she prayed in the cenacle to obtain the Holy Spirit. She took care of the Church, newly born and already persecuted. As Mother of the Church, she became the outstanding member of the Mystical Body of Christ.

especially St. John, the youngest. She accompanied them with her prayers, good example and maternal comfort. Thus, Jesus willed that Mary be with them during their first years of evangelization, as she had accompanied Him. After her earthly pilgrimage, her mission fulfilled, she was assumed into heaven. Let us think about the last day of the world. All the elect will gloriously enter heaven, body and soul; thus they will have an eternal reward.
