are learning all too well that life is not fair when you
are handicapped by the government. I lived here for
6 years, worked everyday I was here even overnightshift for 3
years, I have a right to be mad, said Go-
mez is an angry manner.
The journey for Gomez starts off seven yearsago when he decided
to immigrate to Toronto from
Mexico with a work permit. I wanted something
better for myself, for my future, and my friends were
telling me about this place up in Canada. For an
immigrant, however, theres always a catch. His visa
was only valid for a six month stay. Do the math,
Gomez overstayed in Toronto by six years.They met while working
at the Real Canadian
Superstore. He was the maintenance supervisor,and he would come
in towards the end of my shift to
work overnight. Lalani, whose background is Paki-
stani, strayed away from Gomez because he wasnt
from Pakistan and he also wasnt Muslim.
Those were the only two requirements shehad in a man. It was
tough cause she was not
talking to me, giving me her number, I had to start
asking her cashier friends to see if I can talk to her.
That was two years ago, time and reality has
set in the relationship. On October 30th, Gomez had
a court date with the Immigration and Refugee Board
