[email protected] A NEW BEGINNING “ ” “ For the past several months, the Vision and Focus Team has been meeting and planning to begin a process of church renewal at Broadway United Methodist Church. We have developed a purpose statement and created a church logo that highlights that purpose statement and helps everyone to understand and connect to our church’s new direction. Our new logo will appear on all future worship bulletins, church newsletters, newspaper ads, church communications, and our church sign. It will also be displayed on posters and banners. The Purpose Statement and Logo is easy to remember: Love, Grow and Serve in Christ. A picture of our church appears in the center of this circular logo. Also, Broadway has entered into the 21 st. Century and is now on Facebook and has its own web-page. However, all we have done so far is just the first step in a three year journey to revitalize our church and move in a new direction. September 13, 2015 is the selected date for Broadway UMC to begin this new direction by reaching out and inviting people to Re-Think Church and come and see how spiritually rewarding a traditional worship service can be. It has been said that a journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step. We call this first step, Come and See Sunday. We will place ads in the Southeast Missourian. We will send out personal invitational letters. We will advertise through Facebook and on our Web-page. Hopefully our congregation will pass the word through everyday conversations. In my heart, I know that God wants us to prosper. God wants us to impact the community and change lives. God wants us to have a hope and a future! We simply need to step out in faith, tap into God’s power, and hang on for the ride! What can I do to help my church on September 13 th ? *Pray for our church and this new beginning. Prayer taps into God’s power. *Be faithful in worship attendance (especially September 13.) Your presence speaks volumes! *Be cheerful and positive…You are at the heart of our new vision! *Be ready to serve! We need all the help we can get! *Sing with spirit and participate in the liturgy readings. * Choir (2 songs) and congregational hymns need to be peppy. * Start the Worship Service on time. * Keep “Greet Your Neighbor” only about two minutes! * Invite family, friends, neighbors and co-workers! The more the merrier! * Bring extra food for the Fellowship Meal after the Worship Service. God has great plans for us! This September, let’s give it our best! Together, let’s claim our God-given hope and future! Pastor Michael 1400 Broadway (Broadway & Lincoln) Scott City MO 63780 Volume 131 September, 2015

The Searcher’ Class– Larry Dunger/Norma Freed,Teachers(continued from previous column)5:27-29, 33-42 and September 27, “Standing FirmAgainst Opposition” from Acts 7:2-4, 8-10,17, 33, 34,45-47, 52, 53.

This quarter’s lessons involve real people whowere intimately involved in the formation of the NewTestament church. We will be looking at how God,through people like you and me, went aboutestablishing churches which spread the Gospel to theworld. Many of the issues of our present day churcheswere no different that what the original churchesfaced. We, therefore, should look closely at how theyhandled them.

Continue to pray for our church, pastor, VisionCommittee, the sick, the lonely, leaders of our countryand for the unsaved.

God Bless!!

Where has summer gone? Seems like it just arrivedand is ready to move on. We have been blessed withone that has not been a miserable one like some havebeen and when the snowy and cold days arrive we’lllook back wishing for these to come back. Can wehumans ever be satisfied?!? Seems like we just needto accept what the Good Lord sends us and bethankful for it.

With fall coming and school already back in fullswing we have a unit for September entitled “TakeCharge.” The goal for this series is to understand theimportance of being in control of our everyday habits, emotions, attitudes and examples. The differentlessons include taking charge of our health , a way ofhonoring God; of our habits which improverelationships; of our emotions, that brings aboutpersonal growth and peace; of our attitudes, thatmakes it easier to handle the little “bumps in the road”that are hurtful to us; and also our examples becauseothers notice a Christian’s words and actions and weneed to try to lead our peers to Christ. With 5 lessonswe go into October.

Please pray for us and ours as we try to rememberyou and yours. May God be with us all.

The Searcher’ Class– Larry Dunger/Norma Freed,Teachers
