NativoEntertainment This Day ft Jamela

Dj AJWhen AJ was introduced to the industry manyfolks were quick to think this young muso will on-ly just replicate his legendary father Arthur Ma-fokate’s hits to get by in this cruel industry. But allhad to change when AJ threw a shock wavenamed ‘‘This day’’ on the dance floors nationwide. His sound is in no way similar to anythingever heard. I was very exited when he gave usthe go ahead to reveal this piece of entertain-ment to you. This song is about a guy (Jamela)whos loved one left. Her departure left him with avery hectic mission to carry out on his own beingto move on in life. Some lines I like in the song include“Its always aMission going around the town when the onlything that comes to my mind is that you aregone’’.He then goes on to say ‘‘So all I do is hope that Iwill be with you.All I do is hope that I can make itthrough this day’’Another paragraph goes like ‘‘Its been 3 weeksnow and still I heard no word from you.I am go-ing crazy cause all I do is missing you’’.

How to Sustain a relationship

A few days ago a friend of mine asked me foradvice on how to sustain a relationship, a strangerequest considering my track record with theopposite sex. None the less I tried my best to givesome “sound” and “practical” advice. So I rackedmy brain trying to drop some pearls of wisdom andin the process I did a bit of soul searching withregards to the question of ‘how one sustains arelationship’ and more importantly why have I beenso unsuccessful in sustaining or even making anyreal progress in the ones I’ve had. Being the youngscholar I envision myself to be, I decided to takesome time to do a bit of research into the innerworkings of love, relationships and dating .Whilestanding in a pay-point queue in a localsupermarket, I read the following quote and thoughtto myself, how appropriate! It read: “Getting in arelationship is one of the most preciousresponsibilities of any couple. Most loving couplesare working hand in hand in order to make theirrelationship work from day to day. Passing throughthe stage of getting to know each other better, courtship, and now in formal relationship, most

couples are finding ways on how to sustain arelationship”Maintaining a consistent romanticrelationship is not that easy. There a lot of factorsyou need to take into consideration if you want tomake your relationship go the distance (so I’ve beentold by every other woman I’ve asked this naggingquestion). So I scanned the information highway thatis the Internet in search of some tips I could“borrow” and I was quit intrigued by what some“experts” had to say. Here are some basic rules on how to ‘sustain ahealthy relationship’ as given out by Dr. BartonGoldsmith a psychotherapist, columnist, radio host, speaker, and author of the book 100 Ways to BoostYour Self-Confidence:

1. Successful relationships take work. Theydon't happen in a vacuum. They occur whenthe couples in them take the risk of sharingwhat it is that's going on in their hearts andheads.

08

Page 9: A-loc Mag February Issue

2. You can only change yourself, not yourpartner. If you love someone and think thatafter a while he or she will alter behaviorsyou find uncomfortable, think again. If youwant changes, put them on the table. So yourpartner knows what you need.

3. All arguments stem from our own fear orpain. When upset occurs, check out what'sgoing on inside of you rather than get angrywith your partner. Truth is that we usuallyaren't upset for the reasons we think we are.

4. Understand that men and women are verydifferent. We're not from Mars or Venus;we're not even in the same solar system. Un-derstanding and celebrating our differenceswill make living together more peaceful, in-teresting, and fun.

5. Honor each other in some way every day.Every morning you have the opportunity tomake your relationship sweeter and deeperby recommitting to your mate. Feeling re-spected and cherished by the one you lovemakes life much nicer.

6. Anger is a waste of time. Anger is also arelationship killer, because it makes you self-absorbed and won't allow you to see thegood. If you are annoyed with your mate, give yourself some time to calm down andthen gently discuss what's going on for you.

7. Get regular tune-ups. Go to a couple’sworkshop, talk with a counselor, or read arelationship book together at least once ayear. Even if you don't think you need it,you will pick up a couple of ideas, and theprocess alone will strengthen your connec-tion.

8. Find a way to become and stay bestfriends. For some this sounds unromantic, but for those who live it, most say it's thebest part of their time together.

9. Be responsible for your own happiness. No other person can make you happy. It'ssomething you have to do on your own. Ifyou feel it's your partner's fault, thinkagain, and look within to find out whatpiece may be missing for you.

10. Give what you want to get. Our needschange with time. If you'd like to feel un-derstood, try being more understanding. Ifyou want to feel more love, try givingmore. It's a simple program that reallyworks.

Although some of the good Doctor’s advice madea lot sense, I did however find some of it to be ratherimpractical. Couple workshops!? Come on,whatever happened to “don’t hang your dirtylaundry on the streets”? There’re just some thingsyou can’t tell the one you love, no matter how badlyyou want to scream it in their faces. But I supposeit’s a lot more practical then that “Think like a man,act like a woman” book I read a few months ago.09

Page 10: A-loc Mag February Issue

That’s the thing about relationships, they are complexyet simple at the same time and though we’d all lovesome kind of user manual to help us navigate throughthe rules and regulations, the protocol and procedures, the do’s and don’ts. There just isn’t one, and sure yougo through the Internet, read a column in a magazine, pay some counsellor or see a movie based on a book;but all you’re going to get is a lot more of: do this, dothat, buy this, buy that, sex this, sex that. Everythingto do with nothing and nothing to do with what’s reallygoing on in your relationship. Although sometimes youcan always pin point what went wrong and how youcould have made a difference, most of the time it’s notso simple. You could have woken up one morning andthe person your next to just didn’t do for you anymore, you could have grown as a person while they remainedstagnant, you both could have just grown apart andmutually felt that there was no point in going on. Thetruth is relationships are part of the things that you justmight not have control over, and all you can do is tryyour hardest and hope it all works out.

Love Hater!!!

Ah February! The love month! Does this#$@%! have to be every year?? The half pricedchocolates, overpriced flowers, two-for-onespecial cheesy novelty knick-knacks and soppyromance movies? An annual reminder of howmuch you suck at keeping a relationship or ofhow lonely and alone you are. Sad isn’t it?Valentine’s Day, the one day of the year werePDAs and maxing out your credit all in the nameof love are some of the horrors you’llunfortunately have to bare-witness to. If you’relike me however, and have no-one to cuddle upwith or just get nauseated by the sight of lovestruck juvenile adolescents who can’t seem tokeep their hands off each other for longer thanfive minutes; then you’re probably one of themany poor souls who are absolutely dreadingthe impending horrors of Saint Valentine’swrath.Desperate for way out of having to be part ofthis annual torture? Fear not there, for there ishope. As a concerned and somewhat scornedformer lover I’ve taken it upon myself to puttogether a list of activities to keep youpreoccupied or just plain out of sight so youdon’t have to feel the sting of cupid’s arrow:

You can just spend the night home, bitterand alone. You can protest fancy dinnersand eat beans from the can with a fork. You can boycott candy and eat only saltysnacks. You can watch movies in whichlove ends in tragedy and despair, hopingthey will make you feel better.

Host an anti-valentine’s day party or a smallinformal gathering with other valentine hat-ing friends, but remember to enforce astrict ban on couples, bright colors, stuffedanimals or any open displays of affections

Compile a playlist of some of the darkestaspects of love and wallow in your ownself-pity. Listen to artist such as Adele oreven Taylor Swift and sing along and dancelike nobody is watching (be careful that youdon’t look like some kind of creep)

Get together all your friends who shareyour sentiments about love and have a bon-fire (outdoors, in a safe fire pit) and burn oldValentine's Day cards and romance novels.Scribble on the covers of romance novelsand romance movie cases (or photocopiesof them) with markers, giving the peopleblackened teeth, glasses, and handlebarmustaches. Hang pictures of your "ex's" orof cupid on a bulletin board or dart board, and throw darts at it. Have a contest.

Spend the day at the cinema, but instead of14

Page 15: A-loc Mag February Issue

the usually cheesy, predictable romance movie.Indulge in marathon of some of romantic mov-ies, action movies, science fiction, etc.

But before you take to the streets dressed in allblack chanting your anti-valentines slogan andfeeling rather sorry for yourself, stop and takea moment to remember that it’s not all bad.Valentine’s Day is nothing more than acommercialized holiday with all the unhealthynotions about love and all the pressure it putson a person's love life and thought it has been asource of human misery for too long, it stillshouldn’t be something that bothers you to thepoint you feel the need to start your ownanti-movement.Just remember that it’s just another holidaydreamt up by the greeting card and retailindustry to part you with your hard earnedmoney.Don’t fall in the trap, your bigger than all of this, take back Feb 14

The desired Mzanzi’s youth LifestyleEntrepreneurshipFor so many times I have heardmany South Africans togetherwith our own governmentcrying about the sky rocketingunemployment rate. I thendecided to actually follow thisnational dilemma through withthe aim of understanding itsroot cause. What I came upwith is rather a disturbing and asad reality that most of ouryouth grow up with a mentalitythat says ‘‘I need to get a job’’rather than I need to createjobs. I mean think about it, Whowill be willing to employ peoplejust to down the rate?

Probably no one. Employers willalways opt for the best of the bestbut unfortunately to prove yourworth you need qualifications. Now what about the talent andskills? In most cases talent is notwritten or proven at school. Butin our era you find talentedpeople on the same queue withqualified minority waiting to beemployed. Why is this? Becausethe life cycle of an ordinary SAcitizen is as simple as Primaryschool, Secondary school thenVarsity or tertiary level afterwhich employment of that citizenmust conclude the life cycle. Haveyou ever think of the following?

If you are ever going to get thatjob you are waiting for or if youare currently employed bysomeone,Your employer is usingyou to get his job done for aprice that you have very littlecontrol or influence over andthat is your salary. Now thinkabout it, If you were to sell thoseservices to your employer, yourprice would be higher than whatyou are being given right nowisn't it?Now if that is the casewhy do we need to be employedinstead of being entrepreneursand sell our talents and skills fora better price?

To be continued in the nextissue!!

The first time I heard about Cruz was on TV while he was was performing his music videocalled a ‘‘letter from a fan’’. Because of his ability to lay vocals on a Hip-hop beat,I developedmuch respect for him since that day. He describes himself as a stage performer,Song writer anda producer. However I think he is a little more than that, maybe a stage performer,Song writerand a producer of note.

Cruz enjoyed the lime light when his single phakamis ikwaito landed a # 1 spot on Yfm’skwaito hot 99 for two hot weeks. His music found its way to major radio and TV stations suchas Metro fm and SABC1. His songs were previously featured as sound tracks for a well knowndrama Zone 14 on SABC 1,He has also been featured on shows such as Yo Tv(wild room mega),Soweto tv’s Kasi Vibes,Music lounge on SABC 1,etv’s crazy e and Hectic 99 on SABC 2.

He currently has two music videos out, phakamis' ikwaito and letter from a fan. This Free Stateborn rapper has performed and shared major stages with the likes of HHP,JR,Pro Kid,dj Sbu,Speedy,Kelly khumalo,Tina,Chomee,Bongo Maffin,Tuks,Tkzee,Oskido,Dj kent and more.

Fashion!!Through my eyes

That moment when fashion is the only way youknow how to communicate with the world. So whatdoes this mean?  That fashion is considered art, away of life – and not just a way of getting noticed.Sure, there are some people who use brand names tomake a name for themselves, but you see fashion asmore of an experience than simply a noun.  Behold:the definitive “fashionista”.There are so many trendsin fashion and at this present moment the fashionindustry is bringing back old trends such as vintagelook. We all have certain fashion style we feelcomfortable with, which we feel best defines whowe are. The clothes we wear tell a total story aboutwho we are, who we aspire to be and help us connectwith the next individual. Its quiet amazing the effectof colourful clothes in your mood. Days when youfeel grumpy and sad wear a colourful top, dress oranything that has a bit of colour and immediatelysomething inside of you lifts up. We also makeclothes look stylish with our unique features, bodysizes and taste.Fashion trends evolve with seasonsand centuries. Designers get inspired by so manydifferent elements which are precisely evident on thedesigns just like you deciding on what to wear it isinspired by your mood that day and influenced bythe place you might be going to and the occasionyou could be attending. Fashion is all aboutinspiration.Trends are fantastic – you appreciate thatthey keep things fresh and give designers newplatforms for creativity – but if you’re a slave to“what’s hot”, be careful not to lose your personalsense of style and to date yourself with an abundanceof “ins”.  Try pairing animal print with cigarettepants and a plain V-neck shirt, or wear a leather miniwith a basic grey tank and ankle boots.  You maywant to stay on top of the ever-evolving world offashion, but don’t lose your essence in the process.

I was wondering what some of youthink of today's evolving fashion; Ithink that people should be their ownperson and show off their personalitythe way they want to, not how otherswant them to. But for women espe-cially, what's with the t-shirts that arelike a mile long to your knee caps, orlooking for a nice coat or shirt only tofind it's half way long. Or even someof the pants. A lot of the clothes lookgrumpy, skanky or like maternitywear. Now there are some clothes outthere that do look good and it's cool;there are different styles matchingdifferent decades, but I think fashionwas best in the late 90's to early/mid2000's. Especially t-shirts and tops.

Young and boldwith future sparkling possibilities.

The most amazing thing about life is when yourealize that you may not be as rich as you want to bebut you being yourself is the most valuable thingmoney can't afford. When you are young, talented,in and about with the latest trends one of the mostdifficult thing to deal with is pressure from all pointsof the universe, pressure to fit into a certain circle offriends, pressure to own label clothes and be ofcertain status but then when you come to think of it,is it all worth it? No, not really because at one timeall those things fade, fake friends leave you whenyou broke and can no longer keep up with thedemands of a certain status so the best option is to beyourself and act your status because then you willattract friends that appreciate you for who you reallyare. . Like Joe Osteen said ‘Hard times may haveheld you down, but they will not last forever. Whenall is said and done, you will be increases”.One of the most incredible thing to remember is thatas young as you are your mind is the most powerfulweapon you own. It literally breaks down all theboundaries that fear once created and it offers youthe ability to explore your full potential. You are themost expensive brand you could ever own becausenobody can ever be you, which is why it’s best ifyou ever compete with anything but with yourself bytrying to be better than the person you wereyesterday. To be young, free and bold is so inspiring, everything is at your fingertips waiting for you toclick the possibilities away. Never let doubts stopyou from taking a calculated risk on something thatcould bring out the best in you. Learn from yourmistakes as well because it is from mistakes that welearn a lot about ourselves. The best teacher isprobably life itself and don't forget fun is order ofthe day, be happy. You are only young once socelebrate that.

Travel the world, see places, experience newculture, tradition and indulge in thelandscape of a different location becausetravelling broaden your perspective in life.New experiences are a chance for self-growth. Mandy Hale said “Once you makethe decision to move on don’t look back.Your destiny will never be found in the rear-view mirror”.There are many things whichyou are capable of doing, some hiddentalents you won't know about until you takechances and try out in different fields to seewhat is it exactly that you are good at.Remember, every individual is unique withtheir own God-given gifts

Ever heard the phrase “Sons are a heritage fromthe Lord”? It actually comes out of the Bible! Wayback in Bible times, a man’s worth was somewhatdetermine by the number of children he had. Giventhe fact that no one woman could, can and neverwill give birth to a rugby squad, men back in thosedays had more than one ‘WIFE’. This enabledthem to have as many kids as they could; and trustme it was not a matter of being able to ‘afford’those kids! What made reproduction so copiousback then was also the fact that the worldpopulation was very low in comparison tonowadays.

Having children counted in tens might not be asmooth course to tread today, though. Let meillustrate:If a man owned 100 ha of land and had10 sons, upon his death all ten sons will be entitledto 10ha of land. If each of those 10 sons has 10children of their own, each of those children willhave a hectare. If each of those children has 10children of their own, the latter will have only1000m2 of land. Given the fact that landappreciates in value, do you not agree that thelatter generation will always be poorer than theformer? And that ladies and gents is the back boneof my argument! The desire to reproduce has not,in any way decreased from Bible times to today!

24

Women unfortunately cannot keep up. After threebabies, her body wants to give in. Driven by theurge to want to spread their seed, most men cheat. But you see, this argument is very flawed. Ifwanting to reproduce is the reason for the cheatingwhy use contraceptives?? However, I wish not toentertain that reasoning as that’s not really relevantto my take on the topic. So how does it affect theeconomy? This is how:

1. Boosted Ego-During my intense re-search in preparation of this article, I readthe following on the website askmen.com,‘men cheat to boost their ego’. You see, when in a long relationship, a man maybegin to question his sexual marketability.“Once a man knows he can get back in thegame, he will return to his mate”. But isthat really so?I came across a lot of Xhosamen and given their notorious fame withwomen, I thought they would help me un-derstand this concept better. In response towhy men cheat, I was told “ikhwapha luqinisa umshato” meaning having an affairstrengthens a marriage bond. If he goeshome to a happy wife, he will be veryproductive at work! His productivity atwork, boots our economy.

So, a boosted ego = a boosted economy!

The Impact of Cheating on the Economy

Page 25: A-loc Mag February Issue

Written by Sassy

2. Population effects-Cheating often results inunwanted pregnancies. A survey was conductedin USA in April 2012 by usatoday.com and re-vealed that more and more kids are born out ofwedlock and the number keep on increasing. Idoubt South Africa would be lagging far behind. The increase of child births out of wedlock hasgotten to a point where the South African govern-ment has enacted the “Children Born out of wed-lock” Act in an attempt to make natural fatherstake responsibility of their young. This cameabout because of the fact that a man would havechildren out of wedlock with his “ikhwapha” andchildren with his wife as well. Given the settingof the illustration at the outset, he might not beable to support both families resulting in aban-donment of his responsibilities. Meaning moretaxes have to be levied on the rest of us who takeour responsibilities seriously in order to feed thatman’s children! Bloody irresponsible fathers!

So, boosted ego = unwanted pregnancies =more taxes!

25

3. Productivity of a work force-So the wife hasfound out that the “ikhwapha” is pregnant, John-nie is now strung. At this point anything canhappen, the wife may decide to leave him or tostay but even if she were to stay, things will neverbe the same again. Either way, Johnnie is notproductive because for the eight hours he sits inthat cubicle, he’s busy wondering why he cheat-ed, what is going to happen now, whether he’ll beable to afford another baby, whether he can playthe “it’s not mine” card, etc. On the other hand, the “ikhwapha” is also strung, thus reducing herproductivity. Wanting to prove that she can do itby herself and without Johnnie’s assistance, andbecause she wants to give her baby a good orbetter shot at life, she gets financial assistance. She then applies for a loan or increases her creditfacility. That year, her company decides to reduceits work force and she’s unfortunately retrenched. How is she going to pay back the loan?

Boosted ego = babies = stress = low productiv-ity = high chance of being fired

Page 26: A-loc Mag February Issue

Written by Sassy

26

4. Illnesses and diseases-In his article “Wellnessin the work place”, Mark Isaacson wrote “thesuccess of any company depends heavily on theproductivity and performance of its employees”.Infidelity increases the risks of one contractingSTIs. These will in turn an employee’s perfor-mance in the workplace. Research shows that in amajority of cases, a healthier employee is moreproductive than one who lives with a chronicillness. The world’s highest rates of AIDS/HIVinfections are found in Swaziland. According tothe “African Economic Outlook”, in 2011, Swazi-land experienced a severe fiscal crisis that setback economic and social development. SouthAfrica extended a helping hand a few years backbut that loan is lying in limbo. Swaziland dependsheavily on South Africa to keep its economyalive. Its own currency is pegged to the SouthAfrican rand!

It is no wonder then that a country’s economydepends largely on the well being of its citizens.

1.What exactly is Kasi 2 Kasi?We are an enter-tainment brand that seeks to expand and diver-sify in clothing, events, transportation and socialnetworking. Our aim is also to uplift and createjobs for the people of “ekasi”.

2.How did the idea come about? We werecaught by the social network bug and so we de-cided that a “kasi” orientated social networkthat specifically considers which “kasi” onecomes from or lives in and therefore allow aneven exchange of those who reside in it in termsof community projects and social developmentprograms.

3.How many people are directly involved in thecreation of the Brand? We are a team of fourviz. Zipho Zwane who handles our finances, Ke-neilwe Tloubatla who is our very talented andcreative designer, Thabang Dikhothu who’s re-sponsible for sales and ensures that our opera-tions run smoothly and last but not least,Thulane Radebe the marketing master mind.

28

4.What is you take on local brands and theirgeneral acceptance by the South African retailindustry? It’s foggy because it doesn’t really give“up and coming” brands a chance to fully ex-pand, unless there is a major investor involved.
