Mix UpOn the first command, (‘March’, ‘Jump’ or ‘Jog’) students move around the room in the manner dictated. As the teacher calls out each command the students respond accordingly. An extra command may be introduced with ‘Mark Time!’ in which case students stop and march on the spot. The movement continues with the next command.
NOTE: Complete version of The Liberty Bell
Tuning InStudents, seated on the floor in a circle, listen to Introduction
Piece 1: Minuet and Trio – Role Playing/Creative Movement
Belle/Beau of the BallStudents standing in a circle.Does anyone know what a ball is? I want you to imagine you are
a very important person (a princess, a king, a pop singer, a sports star)
at a grand ball where everyone is introduced to the crowd.
When I announce your name I’d like you to step into the circle
and walk proudly around, waving, bowing and curtseying.
When you get back to your place you’ll rejoin the circle.
Listen to the music and it will tell you how fast or slow to walk.
Piece 2: The Liberty Bell – Rhythmic Movement
March, Jump and JogStudents stand freely around the room. There are 3 movement sequencesthe students can do to the music:
Lesson 2: Move Along - Sample
3
March: As the music begins, the students march on the spot and count out the beats, ‘1 2 3 4’. On the command ‘March’ they march around the room in time. When the music stops they freeze.
Jump and March: On the spot, students jump on beats 1 and 3, then march for 4 beats. On the command ‘Jump’ they jump and march around the room until the signal to stop.
Jog and March: Instead of jumping for the first 4 beats, the students can jog in time, then march. On the command ‘Jog’ they jog and march around the room.

Piece 3: Pizzicato – Guided Listening and Dramatic Movement
Students sitting comfortably on the floor.
We’ve paraded, we’ve marched, we’ve jumped and
we’ve jogged and now we’re going to tiptoe.
Students tiptoe around the room to the music.
Did you notice when the music changed? (1:02)
Cat and MouseTeacher chooses some students to be cats; the rest to be mice. The music starts with the cats ‘sleeping’ and the mice tiptoeing around them. When the music changes to longer notes (1:02) the cats wake and stretch - causing the mice to freeze. When the original music (theme) returns at 1:38 the mice continue tiptoeing ‘round til it finishes.
NOTE: Complete version of Pizzicato
Piece 4: Piano Sonata #14 [excerpt] – Relaxation
Relax and StretchStudents lying comfortably on their backs on the floor, arms by sides. Encourage them to be loose and relaxed. At the teacher’s suggestionthey slowly stretch different parts of their bodies, then relax. E.G. Stretch your toes, relax. Stretch your feet, relax, etc.You may like to have the students work their way up the body, stretching toes to fingers.Or you might suggest shapes. E.G. Stretch out like a starfish, now bring your arms and legs together and stretch as long as you can, like a pole.
When the music finishes students sit up. How do you feel after listening and stretching to the music?”
NOTE: Complete version of Piano Sonata #14
Reflection or What Did You Hear?Think about the music you heard today. Can you remember the different moves we made? Which one would you like to do again? Replay Chosen Track.
