A Job Description for Your Childrens Ministry(what we are called to do)

    What is my job description?

What am I supposed to be doing?

We have been given clear instructions.

    1. We are called to reach children and families with theGospel.

And then He told them, "Go into all the world and preach theGood News to everyone. (Mark 16:15)

For the Son of Man came to seek and save those who arelost." (Luke 19:10)

    Must keep our focus outward.

The number we should be concerned about is the number ofchildren and families that are not attending our church.

7 billion people will die in the next 100 years. We mustreach them with the Gospel.

Gospel still works and changes lives hold up the truth thatJesus is the only way to heaven.

Postmodern culture we live in needs it more than ever!

Late 1800s and turn of the centuryWith the emerging fully industrialized world, modernism feltreligious faith was outdated and that mankind could obtain ahigher way of living through science, reason, and logic.

It rejected the idea of a compassionate, all-powerful Creatorand declared that science is the only way truth can beverified.

The failings of modernism were made apparent by majorevents.

    WW1 WW2 Holocaust

This caused people to begin to question the results of

reason and science with its cold technology, pollution, weapons of mass destruction, and intrusive control.

Modernism had failed to fill the void in peoples lives thatonly God can fill.

Out of this, peoples desire to be free from any kind ofintellectual demand or moral restraint led to the birth ofpostmodernism.

Postmodern means after modern. In 1947, a well knownphilosopher at the time, made this statement in a lecture

Today the modern age is essentially over.Romano Guardini, 1947.

He was basically saying the era of modernistic thought was

    waning.

Postmodernism begin replacing science and reason withidealism, pluralism, relativism, and skepticism.

From the 1980s to the present, postmodernism hasaccelerated.

It says truth is not found in absolutesthere is no absolute

    truth.

Instead, it says truth is created in each persons mind and noone view is uniquely correct. Everyone does what is right intheir own eyes. Its parallels

In those days there was no king in Israel. Everyone did whatwas right in his own eyes. (Judges 21:25)

Its whatever works for each person. Any claim of fact isthe mere disillusionment of a preconceived bias.

Postmodern cultures mantra is tolerance and beingnonjudgmental.

It distains religious authority. There is no fixed moral code.

We must hold up the truth that Jesus is the only way toheaven.

Childrens ministry is a key to reaching families.
