You will need one file folder to assemble the foundation of your “All About Me” Learn ‘N Folder.

Open the folder and fold each short edge in toward the center

fold-line. The edges of the folder should just about meet in the center and the cut-outs will fit together like the pieces of a

puzzle.

That’s it! You’re ready to start putting the mini-books into your “All About Me” Learn ‘N Folder.

Use these instructions to assemble the mini-books that will make up your “All About Me” Learn ‘N Folder. A Timeline All About Me!: Cut the book and the title graphic along the solid outer lines. Fold the book in half along the horizontal dotted line so that the text is to the inside. Fold the entire unit in half along the vertical dotted line. With the folded edges at the left and top, glue the title graphic to the cover. My Family: Cut the book and the title graphic along the solid outer lines. With the text facing up, fold the bottom section up along the dotted line so that the text is to the inside. Fold this section up along the next dotted line so that the text is to the inside. Fold the top section down along the dotted line to reveal the cover. Glue the title graphic to the cover. Three Things You Should Know About Me: Cut along the solid outer lines. Fold in half along the center dotted line so that the text is to the outside. With the numbers facing up, fold section #3 over along the dotted/solid line so that the numbers are to the inside. Fold section #1 over along the dotted/solid line so that the numbers are to the in-side. Open and cut along the short solid lines to form three flaps. Refold. Important Information About ME!: Cut the six strips along the solid outer lines. If there is a rectangle in the up-per right corner of a strip, remove it to form the tabs. Stack the strips so that all of the tabs are visible and the cover is on top. Staple a couple of times along the left edge to secure. Things I Can Do With My …: Cut the paper doll and the four books along the solid outer lines. Fold each book in half along the center dotted lines so that the text is to the outside. I have…: Cut around the entire unit along the solid lines. Fold in half along the solid/dotted line so that the text is to the outside. Unfold and then fold along the center dotted line so that the text is to the outside. Fold each short edge to-ward the center fold (so that the text is hidden) so that the unit looks like a “W”. Unfold these last two folds and cut along the short solid line. Refold the

unit so that it is folded like a hotdog with the cut portion on the fold. Hold the two short ends of the unit and push gently toward the center so that the cut portion opens and the unit resembles a PLUS SIGN. The arms of the plus sign are the pages of your book. Fold them all together so that you have a cover with the title on it. For an animation of this book, see www.scrapbookingtolearn.com/bookinstruction.com A Few of My Favorite Things: Cut the strips along the solid lines. Stack the strips so that the cover is on top and staple along the left edge to secure. A Poem All About ME!!: Cut along the solid outer lines. Use these instructions to fill in the mini-books that will make up your “All About Me” Learn ‘N Folder. A Timeline All About Me!: Use this mini-book to write the ten most important things that have happened in your life so far. The first one will probably be your birth, but after that, it’s up to you! Put the date (or just the year) in the box on the left and then write a little description about the event in the box on the right. There is a blank section when you first open the book and you can use that for pictures, draw-ings, photos, or whatever you like. My Family: Families are very important! You’ll be writing about your family in this mini-book. Open the first flap and you’ll fill in your name. There’s a blank section here if you want to put a picture of yourself (or of something else). Flip the bottom flap down and you’ll find a section where you’ll write about your brothers and sisters, and there’s another blank section for some pictures. Flip the last flap down and you’ll find sections to write about your parents and your grandparents. Three Things You Should Know About Me: Everybody has things that are important for other people to know. Are you allergic to peanuts? Are you ticklish on the back of your neck? Do you only eat green beans if you can have ketchup on top of them? Think of three things that you want other people to know about you and write them in the sections of this book. You might have a little bit of space to illustrate after you finish writing. Important Information About ME!: We all need to know where we live and what our phone number is, along with a few other things. For this book you’ll write out your full name on one page, your birthday on the second page, your full address on the third page, your phone number (be sure to include the area code) on the fourth page, and the last page is for whatever other information you would like to include. That could be your parents’ work phone numbers or your best friend’s phone num-ber or your dog’s name. The last page is up to you.

Things I Can Do With My …: Decorate the paper doll so that it looks like you. Color hair, a face, and clothes so that the doll is a little replica of you. For the “Things I can do with my HEAD” book, write some things that involved your head. For instance, you listen with your head, and you get hair-cuts with your head. For the “Things I can do with my HANDS & ARMS” book, write some activities that your hands and arms are necessary for, like throw-ing a baseball or typing on the computer. For the “Things I like to feed my TUMMY” book, write a few of your favorite foods. For the “Things I can do with my FEET & LEGS” book, list some things that you need your feet and legs for, like painting your toenails or playing hopscotch or baseball. I have…: It’s time to take inventory of a few things. For each page of the book, count up the number of body parts that are being discussed, and whatever other in-formation is called for. A Few of My Favorite Things: There’s a song in the movie, “The Sound of Music,” called “My Favorite Things.” What are some of your favorite things? List some of your favorite items on the pages of this book. It will be interesting in a few years to look back and see if your favorite things have changed. A Poem All About ME!!: Have you ever written a poem about yourself? This is an easy way to write a very short poem. Open this book and write the letters of your name down the left side of the book. For each letter of your name, think of one word that de-scribes you and write that. Once you have a word for each letter, your poem is finished. This is called an acrostic poem and you did a great job!

The cover design is completely up to you, but we’ll list a few ideas just to get you started. We’ve added a little “Made by” label that you’ll want to add to the cover, just so you’ll remember who made the folder and when. This will be a nice thing to have in a few years when you’re all grown up and want to look back on the olden days! • Trace your handprints and footprints onto colored paper. Cut them out

and glue them to the cover. If you’re feeling brave, use paint and stamp your handprints and footprints (with your parents’ help and permission, of course). Cut those out and glue them to the front cover.

• Print out some photos of yourself, now and when you were a baby and dur-

ing holidays and whenever else you like. Make a little photo collage on the cover of your “All About Me” Learn ‘N Folder.

• Cut pictures out of magazines and glue them to the cover. Choose items

that you like, or colors that are your favorites, or things that you find inter-esting. You can even cut out letters to put your name on the cover.

Dr. Seuss has some great books about bodies! Try these: Hand, Hand, Fingers, Thumb The Eye Book The Foot Book The Ear Book The Nose Book The Tooth Book The Shape of Me Wet Foot, Dry Foot, Low Foot, High Foot

Songs @ www.hummingbirded.com/all-about-me.html Making Friends @ www.makingfriends.com All About Me @ www.kindercorner.com/me.html

• Sing songs and learn body parts. Try singing and dancing to the “Hokey Pokey.” It will help with body parts and left/right. You can also sing “Head and Shoulders, Knees and Toes” to learn body parts and get a little bit of exercise. Work those wiggles out!

• Your child can also learn his phone number (without the area

code) by singing the numbers to the tune of “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star.”

Learn ‘N Folder Helpful Hints!

Use these ideas if you are working on one of our Learn ‘N Folders OR if you are creating your own!!

Adhesives—There are a lot of great products to use to complete these projects. The one product that we have used that does not work well is Elmer’s White Glue. The new gel glue made by Elmer's does, however, spread well and will not be visible after the glue dries. Glue sticks work fine, but they are a bit messier than some other choices. They cause your fingers to get very sticky and can result in dirtying some of your small books. Photo mounts work nicely as well. Our favorite adhesive is an adhesive runner. One we use often is “Easy Stick” by Henkel. It is very clean and very easy. Double-stick tape is also very easy to use. Papers– There are great choices in paper to choose from. Just about anything goes, except for construction paper. It does not last very long in the folders. The paper tears much too easily after it has been folded. Colored and plain copy paper, as well as card stock, does a good job. And for special jobs, you can choose papers found in the scrap-book section of craft stores. Bone Folders—This is a very helpful tool found in most craft stores such as Michael’s and A.C. Moore. The cost is generally between $3 and $4. It is very useful in making folds neat and flat. It works very well on heavy file folders and other heavy papers. Using a bone folder helps to make the folders and the smaller books fit together much nicer. Embellishments— This is the fun part! Add stickers and other theme-related items after your folder is completed to personalize it! When creating an original Learn ‘N Folder, colored papers, gel pens, stamps, edged scissors and any of your scrapbooking supplies add nice touches. If you find out that there is something extra that you wish to add to the book, do it! Add another flap. Flaps can be hinged to the top edge or the bottom edge. Be creative here also! Special Notes– When creating the individual books, there are several things to remember. You should always place all of the books down on the folders before you glue to make sure that they fit. If an individual book doesn’t fold exactly right, trim it! If you use file folders to make the basis for the books, take note of one thing. The size of the small flaps on the sides will depend on where the tabs are on each file folder and how they are glued together. We may lay out a folder a certain way because it works with the way the small flaps are when we assemble the books. You may see that your area is not wide enough. If this happens, move your books around until they fit well for you. The order of the books can usually be moved around. What can you use to make the foundation for the Learn ‘N Folder? File folders do a great job, but there are other things you can use as well. If it is a small job, a pocket folder works nicely. The individual pockets can be cut down the sides to create folding flaps. You can always cut apart other pocket folders or use card stock to create additional flaps. Attach with clear strapping tape. Posterboard can be cut and folded to make a Learn ’N Folder. Cardstock can also be taped and folded into a nice format. Whatever you use, be sure that you glue or tape the different parts together neatly. Also use your bone folder or other flat edge to make each fold very crisp. How can I keep a large folder closed? A large rubberband can be kept around the folder, but there are some other, more creative, ways to close your books. Small pieces of Velcro can be attached to both sides. That works very nicely. You could also attach a brass brad to the front center edge. Then attach string or ribbon and tie around the folder. How can I protect them? If they are going to be handled a lot you could have the cover or certain other parts laminated. You can also store them in something special to protect them. Very large ziploc bags will work, as well as bread bags. Office supply stores sell a very nice clear plastic envelope that they will fit in. One of the greatest things about these folders is the fact that they are very easily stored.
