Attendance – Make every day count
For Your DiaryFor Your DiaryFor Your DiaryFor Your Diary
From the Principal Key Priorities – Improvement Agenda Reading When reading it is really important that children understand what they are reading. To help your child with their comprehension you could ask questions after you have read to them or when they have read to you such as:
• What was the main idea in the story? • Who were the main characters? • Did the characters encounter a problem? • What caused the problem? • How did the problem get solved? • What does _____ (a word that you think they don’t know the meaning of) mean? • What do you think will happen next?
Questioning children about what they are reading is a very part of reading as it help you determine if they are able to comprehend what they are reading or listening to. Marlborough Show What a wonderful day. I had such a great day working the Meg Moore Pavilion in the morning. Brett and I were flattered to be asked to be part of the fashion parade and had a lot of fun doing it as I’m sure all the children who participated did. After that I headed to the canteen and had a blast helping the P&C. Thank you so much to all the wonderful Mums and Dads who helped out in the canteen on the day it was a very successful. A big thanks to Mr & Mrs P who cooked dagwood dogs and chips. For Your Diary
English
As always we are focused on reading and comprehension. The last two weeks have seen us looking for clues in the text for words we don’t know the meaning of. Often clues will be given in the sentence the word is in or in the sentences before or after.
Our writing focus this term is persuasive text. For Prep this will mean writing a sentence about why they should be allowed to have a pet. Year 1 and 2 will be writing a letter to a parent asking for something, giving reasons (arguments) why they should have it. The year 3 to 6 students will be creating an advertisement for a product using persuasive devices to convince consumers to buy said product.
Geography (P-2) We are working on a unit titled, “How are people and places connected?” This week we are looking at our connections to local places. Health (P-6) Our topic of study this term is “Healthy Bodies” and how we can work towards achieving this goal. Physical Education (P-6) Athletics is our focus for this term, with our Interhouse Athletics Carnival being on Wednesday, 1st of June and Marlborough District Athletics Carnival on Monday, 13th of June. Music (P-6) This term we are studying songs from around the world. Last week we started with Australia and this week our country is Germany. Drama (3-6) “Performance Poetry” is our study focus, with students working in small groups to make props / costumes, work out roles / jobs for each person in the group, learn the poem and to finally perform the poem in front of an audience. (Mrs. Howard) Japanese - eLearning I hope you all had a wonderful holiday. Over the holidays, my 17 years old nephew visited me from Japan. Although he only stayed 10 days, he had a great time and wished that he could stay longer. When he was leaving, he promised me that he will study English hard so that when he visits me again, he can speak and understand English. Yours in language, Kanako Iwakura eLearning Japanese Teacher
