You have a lot to do today. There's the

cooking and the eang and the clean-

ing and the watching of football games

and the refereeing of various family

feuds and maybe the logiscal plan-

ning to get in line for the 5 a.m. open-

ing of a nearby outlet mall tomorrow.

Could we offer

one small piece of

advice? Stop!

Thanksgiving is

unique among

American holi-

days because it is

sacred and secular and about only one

thing: you. You giving thanks. Thanks-

giving is the most personal of holidays

because to observe it, you must pause

to observe your own life.

Be grateful. We know this is familiar

advice. You've heard it before, and

even dispensed it yourself, possibly to

yourself. It is, however, extraordinarily

hard to follow.

Gratude is a muscle that most of us

exercise only sparingly. We're spinning

along at warp speed, too busy to pay

a-enon. A.er a while, that blur is

your life. It takes effort to untether

yourself, even for an hour, from the

frenec pace.

Try this experiment. Forget about the

bad stuff for a few minutes. Forget

about all the reversals of fortune, the

things you're worried might happen.

Focus instead on all the things going

right. For those moments, absorb the

wisdom of a close relave, who

summed up her philosophy of life this

way: "It could be worse."

Things to be thankful for

needn't fall into the category

of monumental life-altering

events. They could be as sim-

ple as a kind word from the

boss. Or a smile from the clerk

at the department store. A game of

catch with a son who's been away at

college.

And maybe, while you're tong up all

the things to be thankful for, you can

add all the opportunies to create

such moments. Yes, praise from a boss

is always nice. But so is remembering

to give a kind word to a subordinate or

co-worker. To take a moment to thank

that clerk or waiter who exceeded

your expectaons, or the security

guard you nod at as you walk past eve-

ry day, while you're distracted by a

million other things.

Thanksgiving comes once a year. But

you could celebrate it every day.

Hosting a party during the holiday sea-son is a great way to socialize with friends and family. However, it re-quires a thorough preparation and proper arrangement that the host usu-ally needs to make. This can be a daunting task but here are some easy to follow tips that will help you mini-mize the hassles.

Plan in advance

Planning is the only way you can achieve perfection. Plan your party in advance in three easy steps; make a list of people you want to invite, check out the food you want to serve, and the third one is to make a list of things you will need. The plan has to be detailed and must have everything associated with your party. Finalize the nitty-gritty of the party in advance so that you don't have to run around during the last few hours. Make a plan and revise it multiple times to ensure that there are no loopholes.

Clean the house 2-3 days before the

party

Don't wait for party day to clean your house; start cleaning the home in ad-vance and make sure it is completed at least 2-3 days before the party. Throw away unwanted things that are simply occupying space in your house, clean the surroundings, kitchen, bathrooms, and every part of your house that you feel your guests may visit. Kitchen, bathroom, dining room, and drawing room require more attention, therefore, make sure you clean them again before the day of party or if possible on the day of the party. Don't forget to use room fresheners to create a fresh at-mosphere for your guests.

Ask for Help

Whether you are hosting a small fami-ly only party or a grand celebration, a little help is always good to save your time and energy. Since you are the host, you ought to make all arrange-ments, however, you must identify volunteers to help you. You can hire people who can work with you to re-duce the load of the party or even ask your family members and friends to take up some responsibilities such as preparing the desserts or planning some games and activities. Plan well to handle kids

Adults will get busy in socializing but kids won't settle down for fun talks. They need some games and activities. Either hire someone to keep them busy while you can entertain the adults, or ask someone from your guest list to plan some games for them. Also, baby proof the house to avoid any unpleas-ant incidents. Keep your music sys-tem, television, computers, and other costly things at a place that will be unapproachable for kids. Also, create a safe play area for them by putting up lots of toys, rides, etc. Baby proofing is very important, so make sure you spend good amount of time to ensure the safety of the little ones. Cook in advance

Party is all about food and fun but making all of them on the party day will be difficult for you. You must therefore, make all the preparation in advance, probably 2-3 days before the party. Bake the cookies and store them in air-tight container, make cupcakes, and prepare everything that doesn't require immediate serving. On the par-ty day, simply warm the food, garnish, and serve.
