A VOCATION VIEW Jesus' life was the best 'job description'. Sympathy, mercy, service, compassion, total giving. Life is so rewarding when one really lives for others, rather than just trying to make all people serve the self. Do you want to serve…or be served? If you are willing to serve as a priest or religious, call or email Father Andrew Merrick at 225.336.8778, [email protected], or visit, www.diobr.org/vocations.
TOO MUCH INFORMATION There is a common expression: “Too much information!” We usually use it when people tell us details about their lives that we don’t want or need to know. Today, when James and John ask Jesus a simple question, making their request for places of honor in the kingdom, a simple answer might have been in order. Instead, as he often does, Jesus answers a question with a question; today it’s about drinking the cup of suffering. Then, once the others are indignant over James and John’s outrageous request, he proceeds to give them what may have been “too much information” for followers who were simply interested in the pursuit of glory. But this information, though it can sometimes seem “too much” for us, is essential for our lives as disciples. In Isaiah, in Hebrews, and in Mark today, we learn this information. It is in suffering, in weakness, in self-giving service to others, that we come to understand the kingdom. It is the information we need to find our place and come to be honored in the reign of God. SYMPATHY
In your kindness and compassion, please pray for the soul of Sam Saia, husband of Josie Saia and brother of Jeanette Laurent and Louise Latino, who died in the Lord this past week.
May he rest in the Lord’s eternal peace.
MASS OF THANKSGIVING A 150th Anniversary Mass of Thanksgiving will be celebrated on Sunday, October 21, at 2 p.m. at St. Joseph Cathedral. The mass will commemorate the coming of the Sisters of St. Joseph to Baton Rouge. A reception will follow. The public is invited to attend.

Anyone interested in donating new religious Christmas cards should drop them off at the church office.
Consider how you might lovingly serve with an enthusiastic spirit.
“Let love be sincere,” St. Paul taught. “Hate what is evil, hold on to what is good; love one another with mutual affection; anticipate one another in showing honor. Do not grow slack in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord. Rejoice in hope,
endure in affliction, persevere in prayer” (Romans 12:9-12). Honoring the Lord who gave his all, we rightly ministry with a zealous spirit, fervent to exercise our call to minister on behalf of Christ, serving fellow parishioners and those in our communities who need the blessings of God, ensuring our efforts build A Future Full of Hope.
