• A fairly large, four-toed kangaroo rat with a noticeable white tuft on the tip of its long tail. It has light brown fur and is white underneath.
• The Texas Kangaroo Rat lives in areas with clay soils and bare, short grasses and small, scattered mesquite bushes.
• The diet of the Texas Kangaroo Rat consists of seeds, stems, and leaves of grasses, forbs, and other plants. Crops such as oats and introduced grasses like Johnson grass are the most important plants in their diet. Texas Kangaroo Rats store food to get them through long winters.
• The Texas Kangaroo Rat is not on the Texas Endangered List. It is only threatened because of all the clearing of the mesquite bush.

Dear Mr. Cuellar, We are researching the Texas Kangaroo Rat and we have discovered that it is on the threatened list due to the clearing of
mesquite brush. We would like to help increase the population of this animal. Our plan is to plant more mesquite brush and then
spread the animals into the new area. Then, possibly restrict the clearing of the mesquite brush, if not that at least slow it down. We would appreciate your cooperation in this action plan. Thank you.
Sincerely, Victoria, Daniel, & Josh
