A controversial figure, Che Guevara (1928 – 1967) played a significant role in
modern Latin American history. As a young man, Guevara witnessed extreme
poverty, hunger and disease first-hand. Opposing capitalism, Guevara wrote
about the inequalities of life in Latin America and the United States. Guevara
remains one of the most revered and reviled figures in history where some see
him as a martyr for class struggle and others see him as a ruthless executioner.
