A Comparison of Heat Flux Through Double- and Single-

Paned Windows

Our Experiment:• Using a hairdryer, we heated up one side

of a single-paned window• Both of the surface temperatures were

measured using a thermocouple every few seconds until they reached equilibrium temperatures

Our Experiment – continued. . .• This same procedure

was repeated for a double-paned window

• The temperature data obtained was used to compute the heat flux through the two different windows and a ratio was found between the two

Discussion of Results

• It is clear from the preceding slides that double pane windows are far more thermally efficient than single pane windows.
