Jackson embraces its prison history as the home to Michigan’s First State Prison, The Original Jackson Historic Prison Tours, and Cell Block 7 Prison Museum. Infamous inmates from Kevorkian to notorious Purple Gang members have passed through these walls. Jackson offers a unique opportunity for tourists to hear the stories of Jackson’s most notorious criminals, riots, and prison escapes.

MICHIGAN THEATRE

Enjoy today’s entertainment in an incredible historic venue, The Michigan Theatre. Built in 1930, it was the last and largest theater to be built in downtown Jackson. Its Spanish Renaissance style and ornate polychrome terra-cotta façade, carved walnut furniture, and stained-glass light fixtures take you back in time no matter the concert, film, or show you are seeing.

WINERIES

The wineries that surround Jackson form the heart of the region’s Southeast Michigan Pioneer Wine Trail, which stretches from Adrian in the south to Haslett in the north, uniting seven wineries. Annual Pioneer Wine Trail events include Art Along the Trail in April and Barking and Wining Along the Trail in July. There is also a rich variety of individual winery events throughout the year that showcase local flavor and culture.
