The owners of a brand

set of Percheron horses is

what we are at 1000 Hills

why...Some generous do-

cost of a brand new

chuckwagon being made

by an Amish guy in Kan-

Cowboy Tip of the

Month:

“Don‟t let your

yearnings get ahead

of your earnings”

cause we feel for teenagers. We do

not downplay their role in the king-

dom. They have spiritual gifts that

need to be discovered and are an

important part

of the body of

Christ. They are

the next genera-

tion of Chris-

tians!. Our vi-

sion for the

youth group is for the students to

feel like they have a safe place to go

and worship and be crazy! Along

with that, we want God to equip us

to build strong, spir-

itual leaders. The

youth group meetings

will be a place of fel-

lowship, discipleship,

evangelism, worship,

and ministry.”

Blake and Jandi Overton (see their

story on page 3), have accepted the

call. I asked Jandi to briefly de-

scribe what brought them to leading

the youth group and what their

heart is for them. Here is her re-

sponse, “ We are being obedient to

God‟s calling by committing to lead-

ing the youth. We prayed about it

for awhile and finally felt God‟s

hand “shoving” us into it. Our

hearts reach out to the youth be-

Prayer can be such a powerful tool

that every Christian no matter

what level you are at has the ability

to utilize. Prayer is simply

“communicating with God” - listen-

ing and talking to him.

Believers are called to pray from

the heart, freely, spontaneously,

and in your own words. If prayer is

difficult for you, I am giving you a

few basic principles of prayer.

The Bible talks a lot about prayer.

There is no special posture that has

to be maintained for prayer. In the

Bible people prayed on their knees

(I Kings 8:45), bowing (Exodus

4:31), on their face before God

(Matthew 26:39), and standing (1

Kings 8:22). You can pray with

your eyes opened or closed, quiet or

loud, it really doesn‟t matter.

There is no need to be wordy or im-

pressive in the way you speak when

you pray (Matthew 6:7, Ecclesias-

ties 5:2), and prayer develops a

deeper relationship with God. If a

person never speaks to their spouse

or never listened to anything they

had to say, the relationship would

quickly deteriorate. It is the same

way with God.

The Lord has also instructed His

children to pray. Obedience is a

natural by-product of discipleship

(Matthew 26:41). If you find your-

self in a situation where you don‟t

know how to pray, the Holy Spirit

will help (Romans 8:26-27).

Successful prayer requires a hum-

ble heart, faith, righteousness, and

obedience. God also wants His chil-

dren to pray together with other

believers (Matthew 18:19, Luke

1:10, Acts 1:14 and more). It is for

this reason that this space has been

provided along with the two places

on the website to submit prayer

requests (under “Connectin” and

“Ministry Teams”). Being a part of

the 1000 Hills Ranch Church Fami-

ly, we want to pray with each other

in difficulty, hard times, any deci-

sions, good times, and everything in

between. Submit your prayer re-

quests in any of the ways men-

tioned above and allow your church

family to pray

and then re-

joice with you

when the an-

swer comes.

Here’s an example of how to pray

God’s Word when you are struggling

with Grief, sadness, disappoint-

ment….

“When you pass through the waters,

I will be with you; and through the

rivers, they shall not overflow you.

When you walk through the fire,

you shall not be burned, nor shall

the flame scorch you”. Isaiah 43:2

“Casting all your care upon Him, for

He cares for you”. I Peter 5:7

“Blessed are those who mourn, for

they shall be comforted”. Matthew

5:4

“And God will wipe away every tear

from their eyes; there shall be no

more death, nor sorrow, nor crying.

There shall be no more pain, for the

former things have passed away.”

Blake and Jandi Overton have a

heart for God, and a heart for 1000

Hills Ranch Church. Blake was

born and raised in Sharon, Oklaho-

ma. He attended Sha-

ron-Mutual schools

where He enjoyed play-

ing sports and partici-

pating in FFA. He said,

“I am blessed to have

grown up farming and

running cattle, which

is something I still en-

joy. I love everything

about the country and I

am glad I can raise my

family in a small town

area”.

Jandi was born and

raised in Oklahoma City, Oklaho-

ma. “I like the city and all, but I

knew I wanted to live in the coun-

try. My life was different from

Blake‟s life—city people are just

different! I enjoyed being in the col-

or guard and performing at football

games on Friday nights. Yes, that

means I was a “band nerd”. Around

here people find it hard to believe I

graduated in a class of 750. I didn‟t

even know who I was sitting by at

my graduation! So it was a culture

shock when I moved to Sharon

America, but I love it here and feel

truly blessed to live in such a sweet

town”. Jandi stated.

Jandi was saved at church camp in

Seminole when she was 9 years old.

Jandi describes her conversion ex-

perience like this,”It is an experi-

ence I will never

forget and hold

dear to my heart.

That was the first

time I felt the Holy

Spirit calling me to

go to the altar,

where I was saved

with my other two

best friends. From

that moment on,

the feeling in the

pit of my stomach

came frequently,

and I know it is the

Holy Spirit convicting me or calling

me to do something.”

Blake was saved when he was 10

years old on the Sunday after Vaca-

tion Bible School. He tells his story

this way, “I felt the urge to go down

to the front and accept Jesus Christ

as my Savior. A few weeks later I

was baptized by my Grandpa Jas-

per, something that is still special

to me”.

The Overton‟s were married on Au-

gust 25, 2007. They were high

school sweethearts and then dated

for 3 years before getting married.

They met at the Woodward Elks

Rodeo in 2004.

Blake and Jandi have two boys

Kaden age 4 and Blaze age 2.

Beau and Heather approached

Blake and Jandi in March 2010

about starting a Cowboy church.

Jandi said they prayed about it and

believed that God was calling them

to help. Jandi said, “We loved the

idea of a „come as you are Cowboy

Church‟ and had faith that it would

be a successful church in Wood-

ward”.

Blake is an elder at 1000 Hills

Ranch Church. He says the part he

enjoys most is serving alongside

with new believers as well as ma-

ture Christians. The church is a

unique tool to reach the unchurched

Western culture of Northwestern

Oklahoma and the Overton‟s are

very glad to call 1000 Hills Ranch

Church theirs.
