From Prep Cook and Sous Chef to Restaurant Man ager and Chef de Cuisine, there are many ways a cer tificate or degree in the Culinary Arts can prepare you for an exciting and fulfilling career. These programs focus on flexible skills, the knowledge essential to becoming a chef, and require as few as 13 college credits. The Associate of Science degree adds general education skills. What will I learn in the Culinary Arts program?You will understand the interplay of science, art, and math involved in working with food. Culinary Arts classes are taught by a variety of instructors who have degrees as well as profes sional experience as executive chefs. The program is designed to give the basic principles supplemented by the hands-on experience needed for careers in this field. Classes are enhanced with field trips, guest speakers, and opportunities to work with professionals in the local area.

The employment outlook in the culinary arts in San Diego is favorable and growing faster than average, boosted in part by the growth in hospitality and tourism. Entry-level salaries start at $10.50-$15/hour. Certificates of Proficiency demonstrate you have the skills to command higher pay.
