From MargeThe thought of going to see

Pope Francis in New York, Wash-ington or Philadelphia had not en-tered my mind. So why did I endup in Philly to see our belovedPope? A few weeks before his ar-rival to the U.S I read in one of mye-mails that individuals that trav-eled to see Pope Francis would beblessed and in turn they shouldbring this blessing back to theirfamily and community. Interesting! It seemed every time Iturned around someone was asking me, “are you going tosee Pope Francis?” or, “you are going to see the Popearen’t you?” Well, I did want to take 40 rosaries to beblessed by our Holy Father for the Arizona Rosary Celebra-tion dinner that CRM was hosting. This amazingly fell intoplace, perhaps, not the way I would have planned it withmore time, but I am convinced it was the plan of the HolySpirit. After praying for discernment I felt this was the di-rection I was to take; but I can’t go alone Lord, whom am Ito ask to go on this pilgrimage? Laurie Walsh, Coordinatorof the Magnificat Chapter in Phoenix, came to my mind andheart. I know Laurie was doubtful. After all, I had no tick-ets and was relying strictly on the Holy Spirit for guidance. However, the next day Laurie called and said “H”, her hus-

band, told her she should go because I was not to go alone. Was I hearing correctly? Ok, next step, if we are able to geta room that will be our confirmation to go. “H” made ar-rangements for our room. Are you kidding, with over a mil-lion people in the city we have a room for the entire week-end! Why are we such doubting Thomas’s? I knew thiswas a journey that would change our hearts, yet there wasdoubt.

Upon our arrival at the hotel we were greeted with‘welcome hugs’ from the employees. I have never beenwelcomed at a hotel with hugs! Well, this happened everytime we left or entered the hotel. This was truly “HolyGround” we were standing on and (continued on p. 3)

From Marge (continued)we were receiving “Holy Hugs”. I’m sure thiswas all due to the presence of our Holy Fatherand the message he was delivering to us. Theweekend was not easy but we made it fun andjoyful with a positive attitude, laughter andwonderful conversation. The lines seemedendless and the barricades kept us fromplaces that should have been easy to get to,

but again, we found humor in everything, well, almost everything.

The only tickets I was able to purchasewere for the Saturday morning event beingheld at the Wells Fargo Arena which happenedto be a Charismatic event! The entire morningwas dedicated to the sanctity of families. Thespeakers were marvelous and the musicianswere outstanding. The event concluded withHoly Mass. How blessed were we! We prayednot only for our families but also families allover the world; our extended families.

We continued our afternoon venture to getin line for the Pope’s motorcade, which was totake place at around 4 PM. Wrong! It turnedout to be more like7 PM! Nobody seemed tomind as we stood for hours behind the barri-cades. Everyone was singing, praying andenjoying one another. Praying the prayer thatour “Heavenly Father" left us was amazing;there was no age or culture barrier to be seen,we were all one as we all held hands praying.Somehow, by 7 PM we were right up front ofthe barricades, where we were able to catch aglimpse of our Holy Father. We were all ec-static!

Sunday was more than amazing; after walk-ing and trying to find the perfect spot, we didjust that, not in the parkway where those withtickets were sitting, but on the pavement sev-eral blocks away. This was where we weremeant to be waiting for this glorious Mass.

This, I am sure, is where Jesus wanted us tobe so we could experience the love surround-ing us. There were lay people, dozens anddozens of priests and seminarians and reli-gious all experiencing this same love. Somehad folding chairs, others blankets, etc., wehad our jackets, but believe it or not, we werecomfortable. The atmosphere with a millionpeople surrounding us was incredible. Ear-lier We had met a group of “Charismatics”and their pastor on the train; we sang Span-ish Charismatic songs, so we were already‘high on the Holy Spirit”. Sitting waiting forthe Mass in front of a Mega T-V was morethan exciting. There was so much love andrespect floating around you couldn’t help butfeel the warmth on this Holy Ground. I thinkone of the most amazing things was that justbefore Mass started, over the Mega TV wewere asked to be reverent. There were adultsand children of all ages, however, you couldhear a pin drop all during Mass. We had peo-ple during the sign of peace go out of theirway to come and do just that, “give us thesign of peace and, yes, a holy hug”. Again, Ibelieve all of this was because our Holy Fa-ther brought an atmosphere and message of

love and peace and you could feel the pres-ence everywhere.

The love and peace we experienced wereincredible. The people we met were a part ofus, all saints in the making. We are all walk-ing on this journey together and I felt the en-tire time you were on this pilgrimage with us.I pass on our Holy Father’s blessing to eachone of you and each member of your family. To each one of you blessings for a Christmasand New Year filled with love, joy and peace. With all of my love,Marge

National Leaders’ and MinistriesConference in Review

by Victoria DavisIn the Spirit, Through the Cross, One Body

(Ephesians 2:16-18) was the title of the Na-tional Leaders’ and Ministries Conference, held at Herndon, Virginia this past November13-15. The conference offered its participantsworkshops along three tracks; Living Unity,Healing Unity and Young Adults. Because2015 is the Year of Unity for the CatholicCharismatic Renewal National Service Com-mittee, the focus was on greater unity withGod our Father, his son Jesus our Lord, andwith the Holy Spirit, as well as with each otherin communities and parishes, in marriagesand in singleness.

To emphasize unity as our theme, the em-cee Jim Beckman gave us some great open-ing nuggets to ponder. He said, ‘unity wasachieved on the cross. It was reconciliationbetween the Father and us.” He called us tobe instruments for unity in the body of Christ. There are many divisions even within our ownchurch. He suggested that we pray ferventlyfor unity with study, dialogue and obedientsurrendering of our minds and hearts. Wemust be anchored in the Holy Spirit. The key-note speaker, Charles Simpson, a non-denominational pastor, continued with thetheme by saying division is a human problem, not a sectarian problem, and that we need toput on the mind of Christ when dealing withevery difficult situation. He referenced Dr.Carolyn Leaf’s work called ‘Switching onYour Brain’ and clarified that the brain andthe mind are very different things. It is ourmindset that informs our brain. It is the aweof God that is the beginning of wisdom. Inhis humility Jesus was glorified and the crossis where the mind of man met the radicalmind of God. He said that we need to be will-ing to be of no reputation in order to get thejob done. It’s not about us it’s about Him. Ifwe have the mind of Christ we will see a lot

more. Unity is not conformity – it is diversitywith one heart and one mission. The only wayis through the cross and the Holy Spirit.

Another highlight of the conference wasspeaker Dr. Alveda King, the niece of the lategreat Rev. Martin Luther King. Dr. King is anon-denominational minister and has beenvery active in partnering with Priests for Lifeand the pro-life movement. In her talk, Dr.King advised that unity is the order of the day.We are salt and light to the world. Life is a giftfrom God and breath is a gift from God as well. The Holy Spirit is our teacher, helper, com-forter and guide. Order in using our giftshelps us to humble ourselves and please God.She encouraged us to spend time with God.We need the gifts of the Holy Spirit backed upby the Word. We should be glad that Godtalks to us.

I enjoyed soaring with the angels duringcontemporary praise and worship and enjoyedmeeting fellow believers across the countrywhen I attend these conferences. The finalmass on Sunday, celebrated by Bishop SamJacobs, was a powerful way to end the confer-ence. In his homily, Bishop Jacobs remindedus that it’s great to tell people about what Goddid for us years ago when we were first trans-formed by His power and love. But what aboutyesterday? What did God do just yesterdayfor us that we should be telling people?

Next year’s conference will be November 3-5, 2016 in Atlanta, Georgia and the focus for2016 will be the Year of Mission. Plans are un-derway for celebrating the 50th AnniversaryJubilee of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal in2017. Please pray for unity in our families, parishes, diocese, and for our separatedbrothers and sisters in Christ and for thepreparations and planning toward our 50th An-niversary Jubilee.

A quote from Pope Francis: “Unity does notimply uniformity; it does not necessarily meandoing everything together or thinking in thesame way. Nor does it signify a loss of iden-tity. Unity in diversity is actually the opposite:it involves the joyful recognition and accep-tance of the various gifts which the Holy Spiritgives to each one and the placing of thesegifts at the service of all members of theChurch. It means knowing how to listen, toaccept differences, and having the freedom tothink differently and express oneself withcomplete respect towards the other who is mybrother or sister. Do not be afraid of differ-ences!”

HEALING ANDRECONCILIA-TION MASS

FOLLOWED BYAN ALL NIGHTPRAYER VIGILOn October 30,

Auxiliary BishopEduardo NevaresCelebrated a Heal-ing and Reconcilia-tion Mass at St. Jo-seph CatholicChurch in Phoenix. The Mass was concele-brated by Father Reggie Carreon and assistedby Deacon Sione Hola.

Bishop Nevares spoke on God’s Divine Mercysaying that Pope Francis is calling for a Year ofMercy noting that the face of Jesus is the face ofMercy. The Father is merciful. Everything Hedoes is because of mercy. Jesus was not scan-dalized by the sick and the sinful. Instead hehealed them and called them by name.

When the Eucharist was first exposed uponthe altar after Mass we all could feel the over-whelming intense presence of the Lord such thatmany of us were overcome instantly with emo-tion that was so strong that we began to weep asthe Lord revealed his merciful healing love to us.It was an incredible experience of God’s pres-ence with us as we began our adoration andprayer vigil.

During the all night vigil before the BlessedSacrament many saw in the exposed host aslanting cross with Jesus under it carrying thesins and sufferings of the world on his shoul-ders.

After a night of prayer and vigil before theEucharist Father Reggie celebrated Mass againfor those who had stayed throughout the night. What an incredible night we had with the Lord!

WORDS RECEIVED FROM THE LORDDURING THE ALL NIGHT VIGIL

The noble of the world are my priests, the ones who serve me at the altar of sacri-fice, for they imitate me in searching outthe needy and the lost and finding them. They bring to the altar all those who areforlorn, angry, hurt, despised or ridiculed. They bring them to the altar of my sacri-fice, to the blood I shed for them. So manyof them are weary of searching for healingand help elsewhere without finding it. Butin the blood of my sacrifice there is eternalhealing. Not healing for this world buthealing for the next, for eternity. The heal-ing I provide at my altar is a spiritual heal-ing for eternal life - not flesh for a time, butsoul for eternity. That is why my priestsare so important to me. They bring thesacrifice of my blood shed at Calvary forthe healing of all nations, all peoples eve-rywhere. This is why I say my priests aremost noble - because they gather thesheep in for healing in the blood I shed onCalvary. Pray for my priests, my people, pray for my priests.

This despises me that they do not rever-ence my priests whom I have called out toserve me. Who is it then, who gathersthem in to witness what I Have done forthem? To witness my sacrifice and theshedding of my blood? It is my blood thatsaves, my blood that heals, by blood thatmends relationships between peoples, be-tween nations. They do not understandwhat I did for them, that I shed my bloodfor all iniquities and offenses, for all quar-rels and disagreements, for all nations andpeoples great and small. The world mustwitness my sacrifice to understand what Ihave done for them. The priests do thisover and over again - they witness to mysacrifice before the world to say, “this iswhat he did, this is what he said, your sinsare forgiven you, your transgressions areerased. This is my body and blood whichwere sacrificed for you. This is what I didfor you.” My Priests cry out, “this is whathe did! We are witnesses of it! We sawwith our own eyes the purging of sin andevil. The word has been passed down tous and we tell it to you as it was told to us!He is alive and he heals! Your salvation isin his blood. See, this is how he did it. Hebroke the bread and (continued on p. 6)

He Healed My HeartBy Laurie Walsh

My husband “H” and I co-lead the Charis-matic Prayer Group at St Helen’s Church withDr. Bob and Christine Pasterz. It’s been a joyto see God working in the lives of our coreteam and those people who gather with uswhen we meet (on the 2nd and 3rd Wednesdaysof the month.) We pray with and for people

who come seeking physical, spiritual and emotional healingand there are times when we have been healed ourselves. Ithink our own experience with the miraculous fortifies us aswe stand in the gap for others. Most of us have had times inlife when burdens seemed so heavy that faith has faltered. Itis then that it’s nice to have a prayer community where youcan pray with others and be refreshed by the Holy Spirit.

My husband “H” and I experienced a wonderful miracleabout 2 years ago. One night on the way home from an eve-ning with friends, I began to experience tremendous chestpain. It was severe, crushing and nothing I’d ever experi-enced before. “H” drove me to the hospital where I wasquickly triaged and doctors began ordering tests. It didn’t ap-pear that this was a heart attack, but the severe angina neces-sitated further tests. I was admitted to the hospital and a car-diologist ordered several more tests. One of these was a veryaccurate scan which showed two blocked arteries, one at 65%and the other 80%. Both of my parents had long histories ofheart disease and attacks, so it was determined that stentswould be put in the next morning. My husband “H” was trau-matized a few years earlier when I had a massive brain tumorthat needed to be removed and the news re-stimulated thatordeal for him. To make things worse, his aunt had recentlypassed away getting a stent put in. Some calcification dis-lodged which travelled to her brain causing her untimelydeath. Needless to say, “H” was very worried.

That evening, “H” left the hospital feeling the weight of theworld on his shoulders and on his knees at home, he literally“cried out” to the Lord. He asked his Father in heaven to healme so as to avoid needing any stents. Well you guessed it.The next morning when they went in with the little camera, they could find no blockages! My arteries were 100% clear!

Nowhere in sacred scripture do we find a single placewhere someone “cried out to the Lord” that they went unan-swered. Each time we read the words “and they cried out tothe Lord,” they are always followed by, “and He answeredthem.” In our case, we have medical proof of our miracle, butmore importantly, we know the love of our Father who hearsus when we “cry out.” This has helped us trust that whetherour prayers are answered as we want, we know He’s heard usand He will give us what is best for us as a loving Father willalways do. My mom used to say, “The hand that gives flow-ers, retains some of the scent.” We don’t deserve the bless-ings and graces we receive in our prayer ministry, but we be-lieve that the miracles we DO see and receive are not just forus. They are for others to hear too, so that all may believe.

said, “this is my body.” Hepassed the cup and said, “Thisis my blood. Do this in memoryof me.” Remember what I did,my children. Remember andteach others. There is eternallife in my blood.”

Witness to me, my children.Witness as I witness through mybody and blood on the altar.Say, “this is who he is! This iswhat he did!” Say it in yourlives, in your speech, so thatwhen people look upon you theywill see me and say, “oh, that iswho he is! That is what hedoes.” You are Eucharist to oneanother as witnesses to me.That is why your lives must beexemplary, a true and perfectwitness of who I am, how Ispeak and what I do. Reflect meto others as the Eucharist re-flects me to you. They will knowyou by your love. I am love. You, also, must be love. Youmust love and forgive as I loveand forgive. They will be look-ing at you in order to see me.Be like me in all things and youwill be a perfect witness of who Iam.

VISION: I see a cross, I seesuffering, I see pain. I see aheart broken for his people. Isee hatred and death and de-struction and the crying out of ajust God. I see pleading withthe Father for mercy on a dyingworld, dying of sin and corrup-tion. I see a Father calling to hischildren. I see Jesus carryingthe sins of the world on hisshoulders. I see a triumphantChrist risen form the dead say-ing, “see, it is finished, it isdone.” I see hope. The Host isJesus’ whole life here on earth, his death, his resurrection, it ishis witness, it is Him. Christ’swhole story is in the Host. Itspeaks the purity of his witness, perfect truth embodied. Thereis not a blemish on his witness.Everything it contains is loveand mercy.

In like man-ner we also have a story to tell, our witness toone another of what Jesus has done in our ownlives. We, too, are a story to be told, with Godbeing the end of our story, what he did to changeour story, the justice, the peace, the generosity, the forgiveness, the truth, the life when there wasdeath, what we needed in our story to save us.

HEALING MASSQUEEN OF PEACE

Father José Lobaton cele-brated a healing Mass at Queenof Peace in Mesa on November25th, the day before Thanksgiv-ing, . In his homily Father Jose said we have theprivilege of being able to touch Jesus in theEucharist where we receive the same healing asthe woman with the hemorrhage and the child

who was raisedfrom the dead. They were healingsof the soul, spiri-tual healings intheir relationshipwith God reflected

in the physical healings which could be seen. Inevery Healing Mass our souls come alive again.
