Are a local group set up to:
• Raise awareness of July 2014 Consultation on Redevelopment of Leegate Centre following poor leafleting
• Push for continuing resident involvement
• Push for plans in line with Planning Policies
What are Relevant Planning Policies?
National & Lewisham Policies that Protect Resident’s and Trader’s Rights
• Massing (Appropriate Height and Density)
• Permeabilty (Walkways through the Site)
• Improved Civic Space (Squares and Walkways)
• Least Possible Pollution
• Improved Connectivity with Sainsburys
• Diversity (Local Need: Retail, Leisure, Culture, Ameneties, Eating and Drinking)

Is there Workable Alternative Finance
Yes!
• St Modwens and Other Developers: Mostly fund using Joint Ventures and Borrowing
• None of the above ‘Workable Alternatives’ are Supermarket Funded
• Problem with Leegate plans is they are supermarket funded and the supermarket is demanding to dominate the site
Do we Need a Supermarket to Create Footfall in Leegate?
No!
CABE (leading advisory body on urban design):
• ‘Good public spaces increase footfall in town centres by up to 40%’ (Civic Space)
• ‘Good design increases footfall’• ‘Diversity of retail, leisure, culture increases footfall’ (Diversity)
Southampton Council Town Strategy: ‘successful retail environments work on the principle of a good circulatory flow’ (Permeability)
• Once in a lifetime opportunity to create a Great Town Centre which gives the community of Lee and surrounding areas a meaningful place to gather and meet their everyday needs
• Let’s not waste it
