Dear Parents and Carers,

We have had a super busy week at Christ Church with lots of great learning which you will see in the newsletter and the learning briefs.

This week I have been going to governors meetings and in one we were reviewing how we are maintaining a stimulating and broad curriculum while under the constraints that we face with the Corona Virus. We discussed how important it was that we adapted all the normal experiences that we could to ensure that children are learning in as stimulating and interesting ways as possible. Our upcoming Arts Week with the related trips is one such way, so do sign up to come and help if you can. Virtual Grandparents Day will hopefully make our older loved ones in our families smile.

We know that large gatherings are unlikely to be allowed by Christmas so we are thinking creatively about having a series of mini Christmas Fairs for each our bubble classes so you will be able to help with these too. We really want to have some Christmas Assemblies too so are thinking very hard about how we may be able to do these so watch this space….

Thank you for braving the cold and rain for all of our outside meetings so far this term!

We know it is hard for you to get involved in the usual ways in schools so we are going to have to keep being creative!

Best wishes for a lovely weekend, Mrs. Hawkins

Arts Week Monday 19th October

– Friday 23rd October

Christ Church & Holy Trinity School Art Week will take place from 19th-23rd October.

This coincides with the 20th anniversary festival of The Big Draw and the theme for

2020 is The Climate of Change. Recent world events have highlighted the urgent need

to reconnect with nature and the environment on both a local and global level.

London, a busy urban environment, has also been awarded the status of the world’s first

National City Park and is a fantastic place to live and for children to grow up in. Our

school’s Art Week theme is London Living Landscape- reflecting the positive and

optimistic attitude that our school community believes can enable all children to

flourish.

We have planned an exciting line up of activities both in school and outdoors. All the

year groups will visit one of our local green spaces – Battersea Park, Cadogan Place,

Hyde Park, Green Park or Kensington Gardens. We are so fortunate to have these

beautiful parks and gardens within walking distance of our schools and the trips will be

an opportunity for the children to create new connections to and memories of these

special places. They will record their experiences and express their personal viewpoints

through various activities including: collecting natural objects, taking photos, making

drawings, painting pictures and talking about their chosen green space. Their project

will include making both individual postcards and a whole class artwork in the form of

Counter Mapping. Exciting learning and creating in the great outdoors!

Numeracy in Year 2

Using Base 10 blocks, Year 2 were learning how to add tens and ones.

“We were doing vertical addition and we had to add two numbers

to make another number. So we put the 10s in the Tens column

.

and the 1s in the ones column. We added up the 1s and the 10s to make one number.” Aylin

“We sorted out the 10s and the 1s . Then we wrote down our sum and worked out the

answer. For instance we knew that 5 tens was 50 and they went in the 10s column. We used the base 10 to work out our answer.” Isabella Right—Isabella and Aylin’s example

Alastair Rellie Day: Celebrating

Grandparents

Thursday 15th October 2020

Christ Church and Holy Trinity School

Around this time of year our CCHT community

celebrate Grandparents, their support and inspiration

alongside their cherished memories. This tradition was

the idea of Alastair Rellie, a respected member of our

community, a long serving Governor and a very much

loved grandparent himself.

This year, we are unable to open our school doors to 80 or so Grandparents who

usually attend, but we are hoping to still celebrate in a small way. On Thursday 15th October,

at school, we are asking the child to draw and write a postcard (which we will post) to their

Grandparent or a special family member.

We do realise that not all families have grandparents in their lives so in this instance we are

asking families to think of a extended family member or maybe a very close adult friend of

the family that support the children in a special way.

This is a time to reflect with the children about older generations of our community and how

they support us and how in turn we support them.

We will also video some of the children’s thoughts and reflections of their grandparents or

special person and post them on our website.

Special Friday Grandparents (or Special Adult) Homework

(Weekend- 10th – 11th October)

For our children to be able to send a postcard we need the Grandparents/Grandparent or

Special Adult name /names and address or addresses.

Please could you support your child/children this weekend in writing the name/names and

address/addresses on the stickers provided. We have enclosed 2 stickers, if you need more

then please ask your class teacher on Monday.

All named and addressed stickers will need to be completed and in your child’s bag for

Monday 12th October so we can be prepared for Thursdays reflections. Thank you for making

this a special day for the children.

Golden Time in Year 1

Golden time is a special time, usually on a Friday afternoon, when the children get to choose what they would like to do.

“I love Golden time – I like

playing with Percy. We play

catch and it. I love playing in the

tree house because we get to

slide down the treehouse pole.”

Yaseen

I like golden time because you get

extra time to play with your

friends. When we go outside for

golden time I like to swing on the

tyre and slide down the treehouse

pole.” Lexi

DEADLINE: OCTOBER 23rd - HALF TERM

Year 3 Design Technology—Sandwich Making

Year 3 have been creating their own sandwiches and sandwich fillings. “My sandwich was one I had tasted when I was in Year 1. It had red pepper in it and

mozzarella. I used bagel bread and I decorated my plate with red and yellow stripes. I

cut the red pepper in slices and, to make it flat, I cut the curved bits

off. I also sliced the mozzarella so that it would lie flat in the bagel.

It was fun to make and tasted amazing!”

Elisabetta

“My sandwich was more of a teatime type. It

had bacon and apple and chocolate spread. I

used white bread and I cut the apples up into

tiny pieces and I made sure that the bacon

laid down flat in the bread and not bumpy. So

that the fillings didn’t come out, I buttered

the bread to the edge. It tasted wonderful! “
