On Friday 2nd March, 100 Year 6 students descended on Nambucca
Heads High School for Hocus Pocus Potions Science Transition Day
with Mrs Mel Waters and Ms Louise Lockyer. Lots of fun was had by the
students from three Primary Schools – Nambucca Heads Primary, Frank
Partridge VC, Macksville Primary and St Patricks Primary. The younger
students were introduced to the Year Advisors for 2019, Mr Matt Rumsey
and Miss Sarah Magill. The students began their introduction to High
School with an entertaining session by Ms Barnett with her Magic
(Chemistry) show, followed by The Amazing Race. This was a fun way for
students to find their way around the school and a little information about
the different areas. Fruit was supplied for the students for morning tea and
then they participated in a
variety of fun science
activities including making
sherbet, rocky road, and
poop! They also made the
“Oobleck” dance and saw
their flower indicators
change colours. The
younger students made a
magic potion to drink with
their lunch which was
made by our Year 10
Hospitality students.
Thankyou to all of the
Year 10 helpers for being
leaders on the day. They
did a fantastic job helping
the younger students with
the activities and looking
around the school. Also a
big thank you to staff
members who helped on
the day.

Dear Parents and Community
Thursday, 8th March, was International Women’s Day. The campaign theme for 2018 is:
#PressforProgress
This is because it will take (on the current World Economic Forum’s research) 200 years for gender
parity or gender equality. https://www.internationalwomensday.com/About
International Women's Day is a collective day of global celebration and a call for gender parity. No
one government, NGO, charity, corporation, academic institution, women's network or media hub is
solely responsible for International Women's Day.
"The story of women's struggle for equality belongs to no single feminist nor to any one organisation but to the collective
efforts of all who care about human rights," says world-renowned feminist, journalist and social and political activist Gloria
Steinem.
Thus International Women's Day is all about unity, celebration, reflection, advocacy and action - whatever that looks like
globally or at a local level. But one thing is for sure, International Women's Day has been occurring for well over a century -
and continues to grow from strength to strength.
Please go to https://www.internationalwomensday.com/PressforProgress and Press for Progress. Thank you to all parents who came to the school on a very wet Tuesday evening for our first parent information event about goal setting. I have attached one of the links I spoke about on Tuesday that may be of assistance to all parents and carers. https://www.learningpotential.gov.au/
As always please contact me at the school if you have any questions in regards to your child’s education at NHHS.
My highlight of the fortnight:
Our first 6 to 7 Orientation Day for our 2019 Year 7 cohort last Friday. Over 100 students from FPVC Public, Nambucca
Heads Public, Macksville Primary and St Patrick’s filled the school and participated in a number of science experiments that
gave them a taste of what high school will be like. Thanks to the Year 9 and 10 students and other staff who helped Ms
Lockyer and Mrs Waters run a great day.

PA4E1 - Physical Activity for Everyone This is a program that has been instigated at Nambucca Heads High School to
encourage students to participate in more physical activities. Miss Magill is the
coordinator of the project and is thankful to so many staff members who have
offered to run an activity during lunchtime in which the students can participate.
Mr Rumsey has basketball on Mondays at lunchtime, Mrs Taylor and Miss
Gulliver are holding yoga classes at lunchtime on Tuesdays, Mr Rumsey is
running basketball for anyone who would like to come along on Tuesday
afternoons after school and Miss Magill is holding an exercise afternoon on
Thursday after school for anyone who would like to have a go at Dodgeball,
Indoor Soccer, Hockey, Last Man Standing, Capture the Flag and a number of
other games. These afternoons are for any student of any ability and both Mr
Rumsey and Miss Magill would love to see a large number of students
attending.
On Tuesday 20th February four students,
along with staff, visited Muurrbay Language
Centre to celebrate with other community
members the 10 year anniversary of the
day Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, delivered
his Sorry speech to the Indigenous
community. The morning was a wonderful
celebration of the healing of those who
were removed from their family and their
extended families. The morning began with
Mr Gary Williams welcoming everyone in
Gumbaynggirr then Mr Dallas Walker
performed his song Darruyauirray (Coming
Better Together), in both English and
Gumbaynggirr, specially written for the
day .

Touch Football On Friday the 23rd of February the girls and boys under 15’s Touch
Football sides travelled to Bowraville to participate in the Lower North
Coast carnival and trials.
We played teams from Bowraville, Macksville, Kempsey, Port
Macquarie and Wauchope
The girls played some great games and held their own against an
always fiercely competitive Macksville side. At the completion of the
carnival the girls placed 5th overall. A fantastic result.
The boys played hard and had some close results each game, the
sportsmanship that they exhibited was admirable.
All students involved represented Nambucca Heads High with
integrity and pride. It was my pleasure to be with them on the day.
Bella Ronan and Marli Bateman were selected in the girls LNC side.
Nelson Langley and Jake Hancock were selected in the boys LNC
side. A solid effort from everyone and congratulations to the players
that will progress to the next round of selections.
