    Step 1. Prepare the Computer.

    CAUTION: Make sure the

    computer is turned off, the lid isclosed, and the AC Adapter isdisconnected. Failure to do socan result in damage to thecomputer.

    Place the computer upside down ona protected surface with the frontedge facing you.

    Step 2.Remove the Battery Pack.

    Locate the release tab as shown in

    the picture.1. Slide the left battery tab tothe Unlock position.

    2. With your finger slide theright battery tab in therelease direction and hold.

    3. Hook your finger under thebattery pack and lift.

    (Look for the screw hole with 2 dots)

    (HDD Removal) Steps 3-7)

    Step 3. Rotate the computer wthe Hard Disk Drive (HDD) Bfacing you as shown in the picturUsing the enclosed magnescrewdriver, remove the two (screws securing the hard driaccess cover.

    Follow the ESD (Elec trosta tic Disc ha rge) dama ge p reve ntion instruct ions:

    o Hold p arts by the ed ge s, away from exposed c irc uitry when possib le.

    o Do not walk around excessively as this promotes static build-up.

    Step 4. To remove the hard driveaccess cover slide the cover asshown above .

    Step 5. Using the enclosedmagnetic screwdriver, remove theone (1) screw securing the harddrive assembly.

    (HDD must be disconnected)Step 6. Locate the black plastic ton the hard drive assembly agently pull the original hard drivethe direction shown above.

    Step 7. Once the hard driveassembly is disconnected from theconnector carefully lift the hard driveassembly to remove from hard drivebay.

    (HDD Reinstallation) Steps 8-11)Step 8. Initiate hard drive re-installation by sliding the hard driveassembly back into the hard drivebay.

    Step 9. Once hard drive is propesitting its bay, carefully re-connethe hard drive to the connector sliding the hard drive in tdirection shown above.

    Step 10. Reinstall the one screwpreviously removed.

    Step 11. Reinstall the hard drivecover by sliding the cover in thedirection shown above and tightenthe two (2) screws previouslyremoved.

    Step 12. Reinstall the BattePack. Reconnect the AC Adapte(Power on your computer acontinue with the recovery process following the instructions described the back of the recovery disks case.

    Step 13. Return the old HDD Sony following the includshipping instructions.
