MONTAGE:In Township of Chawama lived a couple Mr. and Mrs. Jonas, the year2009,

who are so trusted by all such that whenever the community faced with a problem they will beapproached to help and provide a solution where possible. In this particular time the

community faced the problem of unemployment such that children become victims, their

rights were not respected whatsoever. The community came up to challenge the leadership ofthe day to provide a solution after the disappearances of two kids.

OPENING SCENE: Marlon, Feligo, Jack, Sydney, Kelvin and Mabel in a twin cab 4x4driving out of the school while Sharon is driving in and stops to give way. Sharon, Kelvin and

Mabel exchange good looks as cars go in different direction.

SCENE 1: EXT. MRS. DAKA, KELVIN AND MAGGIE SEATED OUTSIDE THEIRHOUSE- MORNING

(All having breakfast)

EXT.THE DAKAS HOUSE .DAYMRS DAKA ,KELVIN AND MAGGIE ARE SITTING DOWN HAVING THEIR

BREAKFAST .

MABLE COMES OUT OF THE HOUSE WITH A PLATE FULL OF HOME BAKEDSCONES AS KELVIN RASHES TO PUT HIS HANDS ON THE BIGGER ONE MABLE

REMOVES THE PLATE FROM HIS REACH.

Kelvin

And now what is the meaning of that?

Mable

You are just too much why cant you wait for the plate to be on the table before picking thescones

Kelvin

You know how I feel about grandmas scones

Mable

You will embarrass us when you visit other people

Maggie

MabelAuntie nothing will stop us from going to the university. The whole school talks about our

performance and how intelligent we are.

What Mabel is implying, is that in three years time will complete our secondary school and

qualify for university; please begin to save some money now to avoid failure and panic

Mr. Jonas

SCENE 2: INT IN THE HOUSE- AFTERNOON

(Reading a news paper at the same time a radio is playing, News flash is read out regarding

Chawama as the wife brings a jar of juice and a glass in with a jar )

You know what, rules and regulations are there to protect children form traffickers and abusers

but they are never implemented

Mrs. Jonas

(With a breath of relief)I agree with you my husband,but dont forget that these are African governments. They are slow

in implementing things

Mr. JonasNo it is not about Africa as a Continent, but the whole world at rage

Mrs. Jonas

I see, but why the whole world?

Mr. Jonas

Most of these businesses belong to very rich people who are in some cases in partnership with

these politicians, they are interconnected. Mrs. Jonas

It means the crime is international, isnt?

Mr. JonasYes and something must be done to bring these criminals to book, it is crime against God and

humanity

Mrs. Jonas

(Shaking her head)Indeed no one has the right or mandate to abuse or enslave another person

Mr. Jonas

(Aggressive)Not anymore, it was done under slave trade many years ago and this time it cant work, but I

would suggest that a campaign should be mounted to sensitize the citizens about childrens rights

Mrs. Jonas

What do you mean childrens rights?

Mr. Jonas

(Stands upThese refer to the basic human rights that children need to enjoy for their well being and

development. Such rights include the right to a good education, quality healthcare protection

from abuse and neglect and equitable treatment without discrimination.

Mrs. JonasAlso it provides a focus for specific actions to improve the living conditions of Zambian children

while ensuring that programmes of economic development and social mobilization directly

address the most urgent needs of this critical population

Leaders in all sectors as well as Chiefs need to join our campaign

SCENE 3:EXT. KELVIN AND MABEL ON THE WAY TO SCHOOL-MORNING

KelvinMabel I hear one girl in your class was married off by her parents, how true is that?

Mabel

True and she is now expecting a baby

Kelvin

Mabel

Mmm about my age, thirteen years I think

Kelvin

I cant imagine a parent marrying off his own daughter at that age at the expense of educationMabelKelvin it is only that you are in a boys school, there are more sad stories.

Kelvin

You are wrong. Stories on child abuse are everywhere.

MabelOne get raped by her father in the maize field three weeks ago, nothing has been done and yet it

was reported Rumour has it that having sex with a little girls you get cured from HIV/AIDS. So

you see the risk?

Kelvin

(Stop walking)But do you know what to do if an abuser came to you?

Yeah go straight to the nearest medical centre get a medical report and then report the matter to

law enforcing agents

(Happy and jumps up)Yes that is my sister talking.

Mabel

At times I feel like I should ask the school authority for permission to address my fellow girls

about these issues.

Kelvin

(Concerned)Mabel you will never stop to amuse me with your brilliant ideas, imagine if Mary Magdalene

and her friends kept quiet after discovering that our Lord Jesus Christ has risen, dont you think

the whole world could have been depraved of the everlasting joy?

SCENE 4:INT. IN THE HOUSE AFTER A QUARREL LAST NIGHT-MORNINGJack leaving his wife for good on grounds that she is spying and interfering with his business

affairs and decides to end the marriage, but instead of sending the wife away from the house,he parks all his belongs and leaves.

Jack

(Uncompromised mood with a bag)Good bye Annette

Annette

(Surprised)Oh honey! You did not tell me that you will be traveling. And to where this time?

Jack

(Hesitated)Im not traveling, I I have had enough of house politics and its time I free up my minds

Annette

What do mean Jack?

Jack

You dont trust me. Do you?

Annette

(Apologetic)Im sorry for what happened last night. We fought not because I wanted us to, but because foryears you havent told me what type of work you do.

Jack

Havent I told you that I am a clearing Agent and my job demands traveling? Right now as Imtalking to you am suppose to be at the border clearing some goods for my clients, besides that

SCENE 5:EXT. ON THE FARM - MORNING

Mr. Marlon on the farm holding the cigar in between his left hand looking at how his crop is

doing and the need to employ more cheap labour also young girls to exchange with drugs toother business men who run brothels in other countries. Suddenly a car is seen entering Mr.

Marlons farm with four men.

Mr. Marlon

(Walking to meet them)Hello guys

Morgan

Hello Mr. Marlon.

Mr. MarlonGoodI prefer we go straight to my office.

(Pointing at Sydney and Jack)I think you two should remain outside just in case of an ambush, watch carefully

When do you need your stocks and what are the specifications?(He comes round, sits and produces a pistol from this jacket and starts to weep it)

(Worried)Mr. Marlon, is there any job we did not do accordingly?

Marlon

(Tapping his finger on the table)You seeA butcher man always makes sure his knife is sharp at all times to avoid failure and

embarrassment to his customers, so it is with a sniper.

Morgan

I understand

Mr. Marlon

SCENE 6: MABEL AND KELVIN ADDRESSING GIRLS AT MABELS SCHOOL-

AFTETNOONMr. Jonas introduces Kelvin and Mabel to the school and the subject at hand

Good afternoon sir

Mr. JonasSchool this afternoon, we are assembled here to listen to one of our own girl and her brother on

the issue that has affected our community so much. Girls give them a big hand.

Thank you very much for this opportunity. First let me introduce to you my brother Kelvin.

and organizations of our choice provided we are not stopping other people from enjoying their

Girls the issue at hand is easy if only we get united and fight this evil behavior in our

community.

In our societies today, there is moral decay, young girls are been married off at a tender age.Imagine girls, what does a girl of my age know about marriage? For sure what can she do?

Marriage is for Women and ladies, and not for girls.

(Emotional)We have become sex objects and cure for HIV/AIDS. What a lie and loss of respect as a nation.

We have become a source of cheap labour. Governments should make sure that laws are

tightened that will prohibit abusers from engaging children in any form of employment

whatsoever.

(Crying)As children we need the support and protection by every parent or anyone else who is looking

after us from violence, abuse and neglect. We need education, nutritious food, shelter, good

quality health care and clothes, clean environment so that we can stay healthy and not to go and

work as a sex worker in brothels or anywhere else. No!

(Cry loud and fall on her knees)I cant be a wife or a mother at this age. No! I cant, I.

(Emotionally walks slowly to help the sister and continues to address the gathering but fails to)I Im sorry girls. LifeLife has nothing to offer to us children (Breaks down too)

SCENE 7:EXT. OUT SIDE THE HOUSE- AFTERNOON

(Sitted on a torn reed mat under the tree busy peeling sweet potatoes for lunch suddenly her

daughter Maggie walks in the yard to the surprise of her mother)

Mrs. DakaMaggie my daughter you have done well to come. I was thinking of coming to your place or sent

a message through your name sake Maggie.

ReallyI know you can not stay for one week without seeing me. Im here now, what is it that

you wanted us to talk?

Mrs. Daka

(Clearing her throat)The reason why I wanted to see you is Kelvin and Mabel

Maggie

(Concerned)What about them mother? Are they problematic?

Mrs. Daka

No it is not what you think

Maggie

(Anxious)Then what is it?

Mrs. Daka

They have been warded scholarships to go and study in New Zealand.

Maggie

(Happy)Oh! Really where are they now I want to congratulate them

Mrs. Daka

(Composed)Sorry they left early this morning because the sponsor is a very busy person and had limited

time

Mrs. Daka

(Mother continues to peel the potatoes as Maggie goes to check in the house; comes out andasks more questions -action only)Mother this is just a phone number and fax, but how about the physical address where they are

going to stay when they arrive in New Zealand?

(Suspicious)I was told that the Pastor or the school manager will bring those details

SCENE 8:EXT. AT THE PORT BY THE BOAT-LATE AFTERNOON

The ring leader and his friend standing exchanging ideas on how best they will execute their

next move without been caught once they are on the boat.

Feligo

Yeah forward ever and backwards never. I suggest that we change our clothes all of us justincase.

Morgan

Feligo

SCENE 9: INT. IN THE OFFICE OF THE COMMISSIONER -MORNING DAY TWOThe Commissioner of Chawama, giving instructions to Sharon in his office

concerning the disappearance of the two kids.

(As he throws himself in the chairThanks for your coming Sharon and take a sit)

(Pulling a karke envelope and throwing it at her)I was impressed with the last investigations you did. Have a close look at that and tell me what

you will see. Sharon

(Getting the envelope, open and take a look at the pictures of the kids and a deep breath) Yeah, I have seen the contents, boy and a girl in school uniform. What do you want me to do?

CommissionerI want you to do what I know you do best.

(Pointing)I want those two back and alive

Whats that suppose to meaning?

CommissionerYou see those two kids on that picture have been abducted to New Zealandand thats the only

information we have got.

CommissionerThe Pastor who took them said he has secured a scholarship for them in New Zealand

I see, I dont think they are heading for New Zealand; it should be Europe or Asia that where the

market for such is and certainly not here in Africa.

SharonEurope because of grape plantations, the boy will be sold as a slave, because they need cheap

labour, as for the girl, she will go and work as a sex worker in one of the brothels.

(Weeping his face with his right hand in panic)I seeI did not know that Africa still loses her sons and daughters like that in this modern age,

but I hope that is not the case with these two.

In Asia this is big business, because you can pay all your credit by using such tricks and tactics,

in some cases they demand for a human organ as a payment.

Mrs. Jonas busy addressing the gathering on childrens rights and the need to respect and

observe them

Ladies and gentlemen, it is now my rare privilege to call upon Mrs. Jonas to address thegathering Mrs. Jonas please

Fellow leaders, parents, in short country men and women we all know why we are here. Our

community is a signatory to the UNCRC and is therefore obliged to implement the principles

result of increased poverty in many households, children have been exposed to many vices

including child labour, child soldier, child sale, child neglect, child prostitution, defilement, child

trafficking, early pregnancies and marriages and vulnerability to HIV/AIDS infections.

(She gets emotional)Right now as Im talking to you, two kids of the same family have been smuggled by human

traffickers under the pretext of offering them scholarships in New Zealand and this is their

second day.

children, strategic alliances with local organizations, the developed countries and multilateral

institutions that have the resources needed to improve the welfare of the children should come

We need as a community to address the childrens problems that range from extreme child

poverty and hunger, lack of basic education, maternal and child mortality, disintegration of

family as a nucleus of child development, malnutrition, gender disparity, HIV/AIDS,

environmental problems among them poor sanitation resulting in water-borne disease and child

rights violations.

SCENE 11: EXT. ANNETTE MEETS SHARON AND REVEALS THAT JACK HER

FIANCE IS INVLOVED IN HUMAN TRAFFICKING

(Annette meets Sharon and reveals all she knows about Jack as an ex-wife)

Yeah Jack is involved in a dangerous business he calls HT. All the years that I was married to

him he never allowed me to know what type of business he does, neither asking questions

concerning his business.

SCENE 13: INT. AT THE BAR JACK BY HIMSELF AND SYDNEY WALKS IN

(Sydney in very happy mood walks in to meet Jack who is in a very worried mood because hesaw Annette and Sharon talking in a restaurant in town

(Worried in deep thoughts by the bar counter)

(Jovial mood)

Hello Jack(Pats him on the back)

Two castles bar man please, one for him and one for me

(Jack and Sydney sizing each other up, Jack walks out side and Sydney follows)
