    FRIDAY LUNCH HELPERS ROSTER

19th June - Siobhan 26th June Sue M (last day of term)

From The Principal It was pleasing to see the block between the school and the pub being cleared earlier this week. Sue McLennan, as a parent and member of ELMA has been lobbying Coliban Water for action on that site for some time. At least now we have good sight lines as motorist travel up the hill and the blackberries and other weeds will be a lot easier to manage along the fence line. It was great to see our soccer team in action last week and the students really enjoyed the experience of tackling other, much larger schools in the Bendigo region. A big thank you to Mark Gardner for coaching the team at short notice and Siobhan and Ms Zan for assisting with transport and supervision. We will definitely look at entering a team next year. Check out the student report in this newsletter. Our Aussie rule football stars will get their chance to compete on the big stage early next term. Mr Norris has kindly volunteered to coach the side. As this is the last newsletter for the term, enjoy your break, if you have the chance, and keep the kids safe and warm over the fortnight. Brendan Please note: If you are late to school, please sign in the late arrival book (situated on the table in the office foyer) and escort your child to the class-room. Also please call the school if your student is away as courtesy. We combined with Chewton to compete in the school competition last week and our students performed very well indeed. Here are their match reports: Game 1 v Axedale We finished the game 0-0 and we kept the ball in their half for most of the game but they had a strong defence and we found it difficult to score. Game 2 v Lightening Reef They were a very good team, They got past our defence twice and scored. We lost 2-0. Game 3 v Violet Street We won 1-0 and the ball was going back and forth all game. We had a couple of more shots but couldnt get it past the keeper to increase our lead. Game 4 v Marong Both teams ran the ball quickly and they were a tough opposition and gave away a few fouls. We ended with a 0-0 draw. Game 5 v St Peters This was our best game, we won 5-1 and gave it our all. At the end of each game we shook hands with the other team and said good game. Ciaran scored from a free kick, and Abi scored from a penalty and finished off with a beautiful running goal beating the entire defence and keeper! We would like to thank Ms Zan for coming along, Mark Gardner for coaching the team, he did a really good job, and the Chewton students for helping us get a team together.

  • PEPS PLACE Hi everyone!! Were having a PEPS lunch fundraiser from 12.30pm next Friday (last day of term). BBQ sausages and a delicious cake will be on offer. Order forms are attached to this newsletter. Following lunch, were going to plant some trees with ELMA (Elphinstone Land Management Association) from 1.30-2.30pm just outside the school along the path leading towards the pub. A couple of ELMA reps will be there to oversee proceedings so it should be a bit of fun. The seedlings from BUDA were planted last week so hopefully well have a bumper crop of vegies come spring! Last Thursday we made $78 from the fundraiser we held at the front gate selling Baz Girvans preserves from our very own tomatoes (thanks Baz), the left over seedlings and the spinning gum which was kindly donated by Robyn Fearey from Elphinstone. The money raised from fundraising (along with our successful grant application) this year is going towards relocating our vegie patch to outside the hard court which will give it more visibility from our entrance, more sun and more space to build our vegie beds with the existing site set to become a passive area. Working bees will be scheduled so we can complete this task in early 2016. Our annual Trivia Night is on Saturday 29th August at the Elphinstone hall so please put the date in your diaries. Its our major fundraiser for the year and a really fun night. Tables of 8 will play off against each other with prizes every round and a major prize for the winning team so please spread the word, get your own team ready and look out for further details. Come along to our brainstorm session over a cuppa next Tuesday at 9am in the staff room. We need your help in promoting this event, to source donations and assist in any way you can to make the night a real success. Look forward to catching up for a cuppa! Cheers Sue & Deita

  • Imagining Ned Exhibition at the Bendigo Art Gallery

Here is what some of Mrs Perrys class had to say about our trip to the Bendigo Art Gallery I saw Ned Kellys armour. It was made of metal. The helmet had a rectangular piece cut out of it. It was inside a glass cabinet. Michelle I saw a picture of Ned Kelly riding his horse. He was in the middle of the picture. We could see the back of Ned and his horse. Shayla A painting by Sidney Nolan showed Ned Kelly surrendering. Ned Kelly had his hands up in the air and holding a gun in each hand. His helmet was black and his eyes were green. Riley Adam Cullens painting showed Ned Kelly standing with Fitzpatrick. He made the figures stand out by using a bright coloured background. Thick paint was allowed to drip down the canvas. I liked the effect of the dripping paint. Jack The tapestries were very colourful and large. The top reached the ceiling. In the painting there is a large fire in the background. Ned Kelly is very big compared to the policemen. I also saw a girl with her doll running away from the building. Sidney Nolan used yellow and black paint in this painting. Wilkie I liked the paintings that showed Ned Kelly riding his horse. Ned is in the Australian bush. There are clouds in the blue sky and the ground is yellow. Fianna I liked Adam Cullens paintings of the police and Ned Kelly. The thick paint had dripped down from the top of their heads. Zahra.

  • The students in Mr Stewarts Literacy class were asked to write the one thing that they took away from the visit yesterday... The most amazing thing was Ned Kellys armour, and the fact that he only wore it once, at the Glenrowan Hotel, where he made his last stand. - Declan Sidney Nolan was inspired by Ned Kelly because his life was similar to his own life. - Lauren The most interesting thing I learnt was about the letter Ned sent to the police; saying that he would go to jail if they let his mother and baby sister go. - Tara What I really enjoyed was having a look at Ned Kellys armour and what had happened in his life. I also really liked the different types of paintings of Ned Kelly. - Pearly The second room there was a black and white movie playing with no sound, it was Ned Kelly at his final stand. - Campbell Of the reasons I had to hate Ned Kelly was completely turned around. When I came to one par-ticular painting at the Gallery showing Ned Kelly and a policeman that goes by the name of Con-stable Fitzpatrick who had actually killed Neds sister and on the police report he wrote that Ned was the killer. - Tom I was very fascinated by the painter of Ned Kelly who is Sidney Nolan, because the colour he used was great for the meaning of the painting and the pictures always had Ned Kelly wearing his helmet or his whole armour on. - Siriena Something that amazed me was that Ned Kellys mother and sister got arrested. -Brodie

  • YMCA Gym Our students, once again, enjoyed our sessions at the YMCA Gym in Bendigo. There was plenty of tumbling, bouncing, dancing and balancing going on as these photos show! The program is a very valuable part of the overall education of your child and for many, the experience is quite new. Our last session will be next Wednesday.
