Futurity & Maturity
Looking to our future!
The purpose of the NEAA Futurity – “The Breeder's Cup” and
Maturity competition is to encourage breeders to continually strive
for excellence and to reward them for their breeding efforts. The
purpose of holding both a Futurity and Maturity competition is to
allow the observer the opportunity to study various individuals
and lines from puppyhood
through early adulthood and thus
make better breeding choices in
their own breeding programs.
Graafin Ginger M. Leeuwenburg
was nominated and elected to

Trials, held in conjunction with
the 27th NEAA National
Specialty, will be held on
Sunday, May 06, 2018, hosted by
the Missouri Canine Athletic
Club for the U.S. Kerry Blue
Terrier Club, and sponsored by
the NEAA.
The barn hunt trials will be held in the pavilion on the main show
grounds. Members may enter the show on Saturday, May 05th,
but the official NEAA designated Barn Hunt event will be Sunday,
May 06th. Premium lists with entry forms and full details are
available now at www.barnhunt.com.
The NEAA will be offering Elkhound-specific High In Class,
Qualifier and Nice Try ribbons, Barn Hunt magnets for Elkhounds
with High In Class, new BHA title rat tubes (including rat mini-
tubes for new Instinct Test titles) and autograph picture frames for
all Elkhound handlers entered in the Barn Hunt on Sunday. We
will also have ‘gift bags’ and a ‘mystery gift’ for all Elkhound
handlers. Edith Finsaadal has offered her award for the Top
Norwegian Elkhound Novice Bitch in honor of the late Idun. Not
to be forgotten, we will also have a mouse pad for High In Class
between the two breeds (Norwegian Elkhounds and Kerry Blue
Terriers) in each class. If you have any questions, contact Dennis
Bell, Barn Hunt Chairperson at [email protected].

Purina Farms RV Parking
The Main Lot adjacent to the Purina Event Center has full
hookups (electricity, water, sewer). Lower Overflow Lot has only
electricity (no water, no sewer, no Wi-Fi). NEAA RV parking rate
is $35.00 per night.
* Important RV Parking Information *
All RV parking reservations will be under the control of the
Gateway Cluster, including the lower Overflow Lot, prior to 6:00
pm, Sunday, May 06th. After 6:00 pm the NEAA assumes control
of RV parking reservations. Those arriving prior to 6:00 pm may
have to wait until RV parking sites become
available. Please respect and be courteous to
the people with the Gateway Cluster.
RV reservations prior to Sunday 6:00
pm may only be made through the
Gateway Cluster.
Priority for the upper Main Lot will be
given to exhibitors in the all-breed dog
shows. If not entered in the dog shows, you will most likely be
parked in the lower Overflow Lot. You are considered ‘entered’
if you show on Friday and/or Saturday, but choose not to enter
Sunday because you are exhibiting in Barn Hunt.
Barn Hunt exhibitors will be parked in the lower Overflow Lot
closest to the Barn Hunt pavilion on the Main Field.
Strong Suggestion: Gateway Cluster will not accept RV
parking reservations prior to the release of their premium list.
As soon as the premium list is available at Onofrio Dog Shows
(www.onofrio.com), mail your Cluster reservation. Mark
“Norwegian Elkhound” on the RV parking reservation form.
If you make a Gateway Cluster RV parking reservation, inform
Mary Albee at [email protected]. We will do our
best to coordinate parking spaces and move you, if you wish, to
a better site on Sunday or Monday.
Trailer Rentals: Trailers may be rented and delivered to Purina
Farms. If parked in the lower Overflow Lot by the Gateway

Veteran Sweepstakes
Join us Wednesday evening, May 09th, for a very special time!
A glamorous evening is planned in honor of our beautiful veteran
dogs and bitches! Many of our veterans have not had an
opportunity to show in a long time. This special event is just for
them. To honor the occasion, as in years past, the dress code will
be semi-formal.
A Cash Bar will open at 5:30 pm with complimentary table hors
d'oeuvres for all who attend the event.
Veteran Sweepstakes judging, presided over by Joan Marie Skinner,
will begin at 6:00 pm — come watch our veterans compete for the
title of Best Veteran Dog and Best Veteran Bitch. Your veteran
Elkhound does not have to be a Champion to compete in this
wonderful event.
Individuals, groups,
clubs, or kennels can
participate in the Basket
Challenge. Let me know
if you are bringing a
basket so the committee
can provide enough
display space. Just
bring your winning
basket to the NEAA
National Specialty, and
the committee will take
care of the rest. Baskets are to be displayed in the Hospitality
Room, and bidding will take place on Thursday and Friday of the
NEAA National Specialty. Highest bid wins the prize! For more
information, or if you have any questions, please contact:
Sue Lazar, Chairperson, at [email protected] or (630) 462-1817

Specialty Catalog Advertising
The catalog for the 2018 NEAA National Specialty will be a 7.5 x
9-inch three-ring binder with inserts for the various events. You
will be able to arrange the contents in whatever way suits you
best. We have found over the years that this format seems to
work best.
Below are “helpful hints” on submitting your ads:
Photographs and artwork are scanned separate from the copy,
and then inserted into the publication for reproduction (halftone
and negatives will not be accepted).
To avoid errors, please type all copy.
Due to space limitations, pedigrees will not be accepted.
Unless otherwise instructed, all photographs and artwork will be
cropped to the dog.
Good quality photographs on glossy paper are best. Do not
attach (tape, glue, or staple) a photograph to the page layout.
If you plan multiple ad pages, please identify each page with the
appropriate photograph that should be placed on the page.
Any holes, tears, creases, ink or pencil marks, clear or masking
tape, and so on over photographs, logos, or copy will show up on
the final product.
Gold, silver, light green, blue, and yellow colors do not
reproduce well. Dark colors (red, orange, etc.) will reproduce as
solid black when using black and white.
For those who have mastered the latest technical breakthroughs,
you may take advantage of your computer skills and submit your
ad as follows:
Prepare copy in a word processing program; email the file or
forward the file on a CD (no DVD’s) along with a printed copy.
Submit your ad copy and photograph as separate files.
Whenever possible submit your photograph as a .jpeg file.
If you are preparing the file by scanning, use 300 dpi or higher
resolution.
To avoid the possibility of losing your prized photograph, use
the .jpeg option to ensure the photograph is not lost in the mail.

Hospitality Welcome Bag
Let’s do something special with our Hospitality Welcome
Bags! As many of you know, it has been the ongoing
practice for everyone entered in the NEAA National
Specialty Show to receive a Hospitality Welcome
Bag. These bags generally contain items that
exhibitors can use.
We are initiating this year the Welcome Bag
Challenge! Both clubs and individuals are being
asked to bring special and unique contributions that would cover
150 Welcome Bags. All contributions will be placed in each bag
along with a ballot; no one will know who brought what. All
exhibitors who received a Welcome Bag can take the opportunity
to place a vote for their favorite item. The Welcome Bag
Challenge ballot box will be at the Show/Trial Secretary’s table.
At some point, either during the Auction or the Annual Awards
Banquet, the winner and reserve winner of the Best Of
Bag Challenge will be announced. Winner of the
Best Of Bag Challenge will receive $25, and
Reserve Best Of Bag Challenge will receive $15.
If you have any questions, please contact:
Robin Rhoden
Hospitality Welcome Bag Chairperson
Anyone interested in attending the NEAA National Specialty as a
vendor, please contact the Vendor Chairperson, Leslie Trapnell, at
(310) 918-7856 or [email protected].
A 10 x 10-foot space will cost $125.00 and includes a table plus
electricity. Anyone electing to be a vendor at the specialty event
will receive a free advertisement in the specialty catalog. Deadline
for vendor signup is Wednesday, April 18, 2018.

The NEAA National Auction has traditionally been a very highly
anticipated and exciting event that has been part of the National
Specialty week for many years. In the past, we’ve had many
beautiful Elkhound-themed items donated that have been of
excellent quality.
With Ken Walker as Auctioneer, a select number of items will be
auctioned “live”, and the remaining donated items will become
part of a “Silent Auction”.
If anyone has contacts with corporations or businesses that would
be willing to donate items of value to the Auction, please let us
know. We accept all items of value, including monetary donations
— cash donations can be made through the All-In-One Form.
To help us prepare in advance of the Auction, please email the

The Veteran & In Memoriam Booklet
The Veteran and In Memoriam Booklet will once again be offered
at the NEAA National Specialty Show and will showcase
Norwegian Elkhounds seven years of age and older. If you enter a
dog in Veteran Sweepstakes, we would like for you to write a short
biography about that special dog.
Also offered is an opportunity to place an ad in this booklet to
honor each of your dogs who are either retired and/or over seven
years of age, living or deceased. These specially priced ads are only
for dogs who are not entered in the Veteran Sweepstakes or any
other classes at the specialty show. All other ads should be
submitted to Catalog Advertising for the specialty show catalog.
Catalog ads may be in color or black and white. Visit www.neaa.net
for specific details.
If you wish your dog to appear on the cover of the Veteran
Booklet, you may have this honor for $100 (in color). If you wish
the inside front, inside back or back cover, you may do so for
$70.00 each (in color).

NEAA Yearbook
The NEAA Yearbook is the only
publication that chronicles the current
state of our breed. Published every two
years, concurrently with the NEAA
National Specialty Show, the Yearbook
compiles stat ist ics , records of
accomplishments, pedigrees, and breed
history.
Each section of the book highlights the
breed’s achievements and participation in
confor mat ion , versat i l i t y , and
performance. The Yearbook is a valuable
tool in researching current and past
winners of our wonderful breed. We hope
that it serves as a useful tool in continuing
to improve our breed by not only showing
the current and past Champions, but also offspring and siblings to
those Champions. A written record of the Norwegian Elkhound is
an essential tool for breeders and owners alike.
Please visit our website at www.neaayearbook.org to include your
