OVERVIEW
Welcome to CAGE – the most comprehensive collection ofOrchestral Effects ever done.
CAGE (Custom Aleatoric Group Effects) is produced by
Academy Award, TEC and G.A.N.G Award Winning
composer Troels Folmann and Emmy nominated
composer and orchestrator, Colin O’Malley. CAGE comes
in three dedicated volumes,Strings, Brass and Woodwinds
with each volume containing up to 9 microphone
positions. The microphones are divided into two core
groups: Ensemble (Close, Mixed, Decca, Far, Wide) and
Divisi (Spot Mic 1, 2, 3). So whether you want full e n -
semble or more chamber (divisi) oriented FX – its all avail-
able, right at your finger tips.
The CAGE Brass Edition contains an articulation listsecond to none. We wanted to create something
definitive and unrivaled. The Brass Edition alone contains
thousands of articulations and it is near impossible to find
an effect not covered. The incredible depth of articulations
is supported by our custom CAGE Chaos Engine, which
contains a variety of user controllable parameters. The
CAGE Chaos Engine allows you to take complete control ofthe samples controlling hundred of parameters with just a
single click. In addition you can also randomise all the rack
effects individually (ex. trance-gate, filters, EQ).

ARTICULATIONS
CAGE has it all and is the
definitive collection of
orchestral FX. With its hyper
fliexible user interface CAGE has one of the most
advanced, yet highly intuitive
interfaces for orchestral
sampling. The Articulations page has a very simple layout,
consisting of a few but crucial controls. The most
important of which is the articulation window.
This allows you to select what articulation is
currently playable.

SETTINGS PURGE
By selecting the settings icon you can choose
how each articulation is activated. Be it a
velocity range, a key switch, or a range within
a particular MIDI CC. You can fully customise
each articulation to best suit your personal
work flow.
You can load and unload each individual articulation
from RAM. Therefore saving valuable resources from
being taken up by unsused sounds. When highlighted
this indicates the articulation is loaded (or loading) and
available to be played.

STACKING
The Chaos icon will randomise all enabled effects and paramters with a given range, this range can be
adjusted on a per effect level under each settings panel on the effects page. This is CAGE at its finest. You can create complete chaos and design a brand new effect by the touch of a button (note: this will
randomise parameters which are enabled)
The Reset icon will reset any active effects and paramters to there factory default. This is a great tool
to use if you simply want to get back to the beginning and start from a fresh. (note: this will only reset
parameters which are enabled)
The Stacking icon allows you to stack articulations ontop of one another. When bypassed
selecting a new articulation will automatically switch off the previous one. Whereas when stacking is
enabled, selecting a new articulation will simply layer the new over the old allowing you to biuld more
dense and complex textures. When enabled the “Chaos” feature will also randomise what articulations
are layered with one another, as well as there relative parameters.

MIXER
CAGE contains 8 different
microphones, which are
divided into 5 ensemble mics
(close, mixed, decca, far, wide)and 3 divisi mics (spot 1-3).
The flexibility of microphone
positions allows you to dial in
the perfect sound for you. The Mixer page has a very familar layout,
containing controls that allow you to alter the
volume / pan / solo / mute for each microphone
position. To adjust the output routing, simply click
on the name of the desired microphone position
and select an output from the dropdown menu.

dropdown PURGE
By using the dropdown menu you can
access controls for the Stereo Spread, EQ
Presence, and the Reverb Send for each
individual microphone position. When at the
default value (CMD + CLICK) these controls
will automatically bypass in order to save CPU
resources.
You can load and unload each individual microphone
position from RAM. Therefore saving valuable
resources from being taken up by unsused positions.
When highlighted this indicates the position is loaded
(or loading) and available to be played.

DYNAMICS [CC1] allows you to crossfade between
different velocities and filters.
EXPRESSION [CC11] adjusts the overall volume of
a patch. LINK links the 2 controls together.
RELEASE TRIGGER alters the volume of the natural
release sounds.
The Options page allows you to access further
controls that alter and customise the playability
and sound of a patch.

OFFSET envelope
OFFSET [CC16] pushes the start of each
sample further into the sound.
When lit up, the OFFSET parameter will
randomise upon every new key creating even
more variation.
ATTACK alters the amount of time it takes for a note to
fully sound after a key is pressed.
RELEASE adjusts the amount of time a note is held for
after releasing a key.

When “RR ON” is visible, Round Robin will work
normally, with the ability to reset using the RESET
button or SETTINGS control. You can also randomise
the sequence with the RANDOM button. When “RR

effects
The CAGE Chaos Engine isperhaps the most extreme
feature in CAGE. We wanted to
take the concept of Aleatoric
(Chance/Randomisation) and
port it to our user-interface.
The Effects page consists of multiple rack effects.
To scroll through the available effects you can use
the scroll bar on the far right. To auto scroll up anddown you can click on the bottom left / right, top
/ left right or middle left / right, this will auto scroll
to the approriate position.

KEY CONTROL allows you to change the VOLUME, PAN, FINE & COURSE TUNE of every single sample. Simply play thesample via your MIDI controller and adjust the parameters. STRETCH takes the last played sample and chromatically maps it
accross the keybed, allowing you to tonally play any desired sound. The CHAOS control randmises all the available parametersdependant on the included settings.
The Settings page consists of several basic parameters, ON NOTE will randomise the activated parameters upon every new
note played, RANGE alters the amount of available randomisation, and the 3 activation buttons allow you to choose what
parameters will be included and adjusted under randomisation features such as CHAOS.

MACRO allows you to save 2 presets, and flawlessly morph between them. Set any effect to the desired sound and then pressSTART, move the controls to a different position and press END. Now the MACRO dial will be able to morph between them. To
automate the MACRO dial select MOTION, this will enable the sequencer available on the SEQ page allowing you to sequencethe movement in anyway you wish. RATE adjusts the speed of the sequence but it will remain synced to your host tempo
throughout. (note: not all parameters are available to be controlled by the macro)
The Settings page consists of several basic parameters, RANDOM will randomise the Sequencer, STEPS will adjust the available
amount of steps in the Sequencer and ON NOTE will restart the sequence upon every new note played.

FILTER controls an independant LOW PASS [CC74] and HIGH PASS [CC75] filter. These smooth filters can be directlycontrolled by the interface, or by the included ADSR envelope [CC’s 76-79]. VINTAGE enables a subtle phaser affect which is
great for adding a thin resonant level of air on top of the filter. You can even automate the filter with the included sequencer, located on the SEQ page. And Of course, you can hit CHAOS in order to randmise every relavant parameter.
The Settings page consists of the Envelope buttons which allow you to choose which filter type is controlled by the envelope,
and the Sequencer buttons which allow you to choose which filter is type is controlled by the sequencer.
We also included RATE which adjusts the speed of the sequence remaining synced to your host tempo. STEPS which adjusts
the available amount of steps in the Sequencer and ON NOTE which will restart the sequence upon every new note played.

EQ controls an 3 band Equaliser, we have included a handful of useful presets to help you in scullpting your sound. We alsohave included a CHAOS control, this allows you to randmise every value, which is extremely useful for carving out new and
interesting sounds.
The Settings page consists of a few vital controls to help control the CHAOS switch. Such as MOTION, which constantly
randomises and animates every relevant parameter. RANGE which alters the amount of randomisation under both MOTION
and CHAOS. And the CHAOS / FLOW switch which changes the type of randmisation available. CHAOS is purely random based
on a value below your current settings and the RANGE, whereas FLOW analyses and adjusts your current settings depending
on your RANGE allowing you to have a more subtle evolution of randomisation.

TRANCE GATE consists of a gate sequencer which allows you to stutter any sound. The RATE control alters the speed of thegate which remains tempo synced to your host. The STEPS control alters the amount of available steps. And the MIX parameter
controls the amount strength of the gate. The CHAOS control allows you to randomise the gate.
The Settings page consists of a few vital controls to help control the gate. Such as MOTION, which randomises the gate at the
end of each sequence, and ON NOTE which will restart the sequence upon every new note played.

DELAY consists of 2 sequential delays, this allows you to build complex rhythms and sequences by simply using different timevalues. Each delay has a wet MIX parameter, a tempo synced TIME control, and FEEDBACK and PAN controls to help control the
style and poer of the delay. We also went a step further, and added a a LOW and HIGH PASS filter to the end of the chain, thisallows you to filter out certain frequencies only in the feedback of the delay ensuring it doesn’t conflict with your main sound.
And, you guessed it, we included a CHAOS control, so you are able to randomise every relevant parameter, creating some truly
amazing delay patterns. Both delays and the filters also work intelligently, meaning if you are not using them or they are set to
a minimal value, they will bypass themselves in order to save your CPU load.

TRANSFORM contains a powerful impulse convolution with some truly strange and wonderful presets. To change whatconvolution is loaded, simply select the preset dropdown menu, and load any of our hand designed impulse responses. From
fog horns, to car crashes, engine revs to world ending drones, we have included a handful of our favourite custom recordedand designed presets. If you are feeling indesisive, you can also select the CHAOS control, which will randomly assign a preset
for you, as well as alter the available controls for some truly esoteric results. The included controls can help you further shape
the convolution, such as MIX which alters the wet value of the insert, SIZE which stretches or compresses the impulse,
PRE-DELAY which adds a small delay before the impulse is triggered, and of course a HIGH and LOW PASS FILTER, which
allows you to shape the frequency of the impulse convolution layer.

REVERB contains a powerful convolution reverb partnered with a digital reverb. To change what convolution is loaded, simply select the preset dropdown menu, and load any of our custom recorded impulse responses. We have included a
variety, of real acoustic spaces we use and love, such as recording studios, churches, cathedrals and halls. As well as a few notso acoustic spaces we equally love. We have also crafted a quick and useful room positioner tool, by clicking anywhere in the
“ROOM” area you can access a variety of crafted presets which load custom settings ontop of your chosen convolution reverb.
This is a great tool for quickly placing your sound in designed space. Or of course you can select the CHAOS control and let the
engine do the choosing for you.
The included controls are similar as to the TRANSFORM module except REVERB has a digital counterpart. This can be bypassed
by using the DIGITAL ON/OFF switch.
