We bought three high-end Punjab Dhol drums and recorded them in the same orchestral hall asour Epic Toms. The Punjab Dhol is a double-sided barrel drum large and bulky to produce thepreferred loud bass.The drum consists of a wooden barrel with animal hide or synthetic skinstretched over its open ends, covering them completely. The 8DIO Epic Dhol drums follows ourover general direction in terms of recording all articulations at 10 velocity layers and 10 roundrobin pr. velocity layers.The Epic Dhol drums contains a great variety of articulations, since eachside of drum produces very different sounds. Essentially its divided into a bass section and a snare

section.We played the bass section with the traditional big wooden Dhol stick, mallet, hands andfingers to ensure we covered the entire range.The sound is remarkably close toTaiko drums, butwith a little more tone to it.The snare side was recorded with the traditional thin bamboo Dholstick, however we also recorded this side with mallets, brushes and fingers. In addition werecorded different rimshot positions on the drum, so the users can create a variety of differentsoundings rhythmic textures on the drum. In addition we have added a massive amount of bonuscontent consisting of 874 BPM based loops, which are a variety of instant gratification groovesdivided into logical BPM banks.

DHOLENSEMBLE MANUAL INSTALLATION

If you have had any issues using our automatic installer.

Please using the following manual installation procedure.

Use Winrar or UnrarX to un-compress the

8DIO_Epic_Dhol_Ensemble.rar file into its own folder

in your sample library directory. Make sure to preserve

the included folder structure. This is usually done byselecting the extract to'... option in Winrar or UnrarX

and then creating a directory called:

8DIO_Epic_Dhol_Ensemble

You should now be able to open and play the .nki files.

Be aware that all of our .nki files are compatible withfull retail versions of Kontakt 3.5+.

Note: The Free Kontakt Player and any bundled Kontaktor Kompakt Players that come included with othersoftware, hardware or built into other sample librarieswon't be able to load this library. You may be able to runthe library for a 30 minute demo period, but the fullretail version of Kontakt is required to remove thisrestriction.

However, since our wave directories are open, you cantranslate the patches into whatever format you like.

There are a few conversion utilities available that canmake the translation process much easier.

DHOL_MALLET

This patch contains mallet articulation of theEpic Dhol Ensemble. Essentially we used thetraditional- and orchestral mallets on the Dhol -to bring out a punchy, yet slighty softer soundthen traditional Dhol sticks.The patch also contains our room-controlprogramming, which essentially modifies the size(release trigger) of the room allowing users fora wider- or more narrow/intimate sound.Theroom-control is associated to the mod-wheel, so you can sculpt the right sound intoyour composition.

DHOL_STICK

This patch contains core Dhol stickarticulations.The Dhol is traditionally playedwith two sticks (a big, bended type of branchstick) and a tiny bamboo stick.The big stick isplayed on the bass sound of the drum, while thetiny stick is played on the snare.The bass drumhas a taiko type of sound to it, while the snarehas a more clear smacking ring to it.The patch also contains our room-control

programming, which essentially modifies the size(release trigger) of the room allowing users fora wider- or more narrow/intimate sound.Theroom-control is associated to the mod-wheel, so you can sculpt the right sound intoyour composition.

Instrument Presets:

EPIC DHOL LOOPS

Some of the loops are fairly ridgid and precise,while others have a very pronounced swing,groove or drift and in some cases, outrightsloppiness.This allows each user to dial in thedegree of precision/ flavor and realism thatthey're looking for. However, all of the loopsmatch every other loop in their BPM range towithin 1/1000th of a second, so they shouldstack up pretty well in general.

Not every loop works with every other loop,either thematically or rhythmically, so you'llwant to experiment with all of them to mix and

match what works best for you. Some of theloops match extremely well though.

As a test,Try loading all of the .nki files for aparticular bpm and set them to the same midichannel and just start playing random chords onyour midi keyboard. Some combinations soundpretty funky and even chaotic, but somecombinations sound utterly massive, complexand realistically human and naturally self-evolving.

EPIC DHOL LOOPS

The Dhol Ensemble Loops are a large collectionof bpm-based rhythm beds and fills.There are874 loops, totaling 837 MB.All files are stereoPCM wav format, with embedded looppoints.You'll find a fairly even distribution of 1 &2 bar phrases, along with a few bonus 4-barsections.The loop content is broken up intospecific folders for 80, 90, 110, 120, 130 and 140BPM loops.The loops within each BPM rangeare made up of evolving performances, so thatrhythms progress thematically and dynamicallyas you move from loop to loop.While our 3Dhol drums are the primary elements in these

loops, many loops are also spiced up with smalldjembes, doumbeks, finger cymbals, sticks,claves, and occasional metal percussion.We useboth traditional dhol "bass" and "snare" stickson the dhol, as well as brushes and felt malletshere and there. All of the loops are mapped towhite keys for easy previewing in Kontakt, butmany users may find it easier to simply dragthe .wav files directly into their sequencer.
