In early morning, forty-two very talented 2-man teams (84 finalists) representing 21 of MISGA’s 48 clubs hopped into their autos and hit the roads of Maryland and Delaware to vie for the honor of being crowned MISGA’s Gross and Net 2-Man Team Grand Champions. Wild Quail’s tee boxes, fairways and greens were in excellent playing shape. However, Chaac, the Mayan rain god was most uncooperative. This year’s championship tournament was

contested on Thursday, August 3, at

scenic Wild Quail Golf & Country Club in

Wyoming, DE. In early morning, forty-two

very talented 2-man teams (84 finalists)

representing 21 of MISGA’s 48 clubs

hopped into their autos and hit the roads

of Maryland and Delaware to vie for the

honor of being crowned MISGA’s Gross

and Net 2-Man Team Grand Champions.

Wild Quail’s tee boxes, fairways and greens were in excellent playing shape. However, Chaac,

the Mayan rain god was most uncooperative. On the night before the tournament, he

drenched the course with a very heavy rain storm. Hence, it was “cart path only” during play.

Winter rules were permitted. Play began with sunshine and warm weather, but late on, Chaac

decided to whack the course again with two severe rain & lightning fusillades. These storms

forced a termination of play. A number of finalists were able to complete all 18 holes while

others completed only 14-17 holes.

From the forward (gold) tees, the par 72 course measured 5,501 yards with a course rating of

66.1 and a slope of 115. The first team to complete the tournament’s 18 holes came in at 4

hours, 30 minutes. The time when termination of play was called was not recorded.

WINNERS - When a MISGA tournament is terminated and resumption of play is impossible,

the Tournament Committee will declare the Tournament officially concluded. The winners and

the awarding of prizes will be determined by application of the Score vs. Par procedure as

outlined in MISGA’s “Guidelines for Interrupted Tournaments.” (refer to MISGA.org/Tournament Info)

SCORE POSTING - The USGA prescribed method for determining an 18 hole score was

applied. The score posted for each uncompleted hole = par + the number of handicap

strokes awarded that hole.

After all the scorecards had been

tabulated, attested and posted by

application of MISGA’s guidelines

for interrupted tournaments, Jeff

Allen & Dave Cox (Wild Quail - Div.

I) had nipped Robert Egge & Doug

Wilson (Hobbit’s Glen - Div. IV) by a

single stroke. For their slim

margin of victory, Allen & Cox

captured the Gross Grand

Champions title, the trophy and

pocketed a $100 Pro Shop gift

certificate.

On the Net side of the 2-Man

Team tournament, Richard

Fornadel & Matt Hauser (Hobbit’s

Glen - Div. IV) won by a match-of-

cards over Bob Linkous & Ed

Ryan (Prospect Bay - Div. III) and

Randy Ward & Russ Stoneman

(Univ. of Maryland - Div. VI). Fornadel

& Hauser garnered the Net Grand

Champions title, the trophy and

pocketed a $100 Pro Shop gift

certificate.

Gratitude and many thanks to Director of Golf Operations Rick

McCall and the members of the WQGCC Pro Shop staff. The

outstanding performance of the Pro Shop team ensured the

success of all golf related activities. Special recognition to the

gang for the marvelous job of determining the tournament winners

by application of MISGA’s “Guidelines for Interrupted

Tournaments.” The severe rain & lightning storms forced early

termination of the tournament. Hence, it required application of the guidebook. It was the

first time the guidebook has been used.

Kudos and thanks go to Course Superintendent Jason Cheeks and his course management team.

They had the tee boxes, fairways and greens in excellent playing condition. However, the

amount of rain from the previous night’s storms forced a “cart path only” situation - winter

rules applied. It hindered some of our senior golfers, but playing time did not appear seriously

hampered. The first team in finished the 18 holes in 4 hours, 30 minutes.

Many accolades go to Special Events Director Jessica Bilyeu and

Head Chef Jeff Wilder and their entire dining and bar staffs.

They provided an excellent pre-golf box lunch for all the

participants. This was followed by a relaxing and most pleasant

post-golf cocktail hour with appropriate libations and delectable

hors d’oeuvres. For the awards banquet, the greybeard finalists

were treated to a connoisseur’s double entrée feast (filet & crab

cake) with equally tasty sides, a cheese cake dessert and apt beverages. All were an

epicurean’s delight.

The success of this year’s 2-Man Team tournament could not have been

accomplished without the attentiveness, efforts and management skills

of WQGCC’s MISGA Club Rep Bob Hodges who served as the

Tournament Coordinator. He was everywhere doing everything. His

performance at the helm was no less than outstanding.

teams were able to complete only 14-17 holes. Hence, MISGA’s “Guidelines for Interrupted
