2019 Year in Review
What made us progressive as we developed CPRD throughout these 49 years? Our desire to make art available to those who didn’t have access.
In bringing art to our community, we discovered ourselves within it, as well as the cultures we studied, performed, and shared.

Dear Friends,
Over this past year, we have experienced tremendous
growth across the organization’s four pillars.
In many cases, it’s been record-breaking when we consider
our work in partnership with schools, students served,
and instructional hours. While the numbers reveal
a compelling part of the story, it is important to recognize
the head, heart, and soul work that goes into CPRD,
and there are a few underlining themes that particularly
stand out this year. One of the key common threads
is collaboration—those creative relationships that help
strengthen community taking place all year long.
We started the year off in a wonderful collaboration with
Denver Brass in On the Town. By March, we were featured
in a riveting collaboration with Colorado Ballet in their
Tour de Force series which still reverberates today.
Through Arts-In-Education, CPRD celebrated
10 years in partnership with both the Studio School
in Thornton and Ponderosa Elementary School
in Aurora; we work extensively in both locations
throughout the year. Going strong, CPRD also
celebrated the one-year anniversary of the Bachelor
in Dance degree program developed in partnership with
Metropolitan State University.
These relationships have been built on core values
for artistic excellence and civic engagement—two threads
that are woven together throughout our programs.
Some of these key highlights include serving as cultural
ambassadors on tours to Bogota, Colombia,
and the La Nao Festival in Acapulco, Mexico where
we performed and participated in cultural exchanges.
In July, the Ensemble returned to the American Dance
Festival in Durham, NC, for three powerful performances
that lifted audiences off their feet!
Returning home, CPRD received the Partner of the Year
Award by Denver Public Schools CareerConnect for our
work through STREAM, a STEM-based theatre technician
program. As the year closes out, the organization receives
the Mayor’s Arts & Culture Impact Award recognizing
lasting impact on arts and culture in Denver.
This year marks my fifth solar rotation as Executive
Director for CPRD, and it is extremely gratifying
to see seeds we planted yesteryear sprout and flourish
in real time. You will see below a few stats on our budget
growth as well as information on our programs, a list
of some of our supporters, and ways to stay involved
in 2020. It’s my hope that you see yourselves
in the highlights. It is because of each of you that
Cleo Parker Robinson Dance continues to grow and thrive,
and I thank you for all the parts you play.
Sincerely,
Malik RobinsonCPRD Executive Director

CELEBRATING OUR 50TH ANNIVERSARYThis Year in Review truly reflects the powerful 2019 that
Cleo Parker Robinson Dance has experienced—largely
from the profound support of our patron community
for our organization.
Throughout our 49-year history, this level of commitment
has helped us create and sustain an artistic mission
and vision that serves not only our Colorado
community, but the dance world as a whole.
Now more than ever, we look forward to the continued
involvement of our generous patrons who enable
us to preserve CPRD’s legacy of promoting dance
excellence. I am so excited to be gearing up
to celebrate our 50th anniversary in a few short
months (June 2020).
We value your continued attendance at our
performances, your participation in our Academy’s
diversity of classes, and your representation
of Cleo Parker Robinson Dance throughout the world
community as ambassadors of One Spirit, Many Voices.
I can’t wait to celebrate with you. If you would like
to learn more about our 50th anniversary plans,
or would like to be involved, please contact
us at 303.295.1759.
