DECEMBER 2016 Richmond United Methodist Church

Volume 32/Issue 12

“Joy to the world, the Lord has come! Let earth receive her

King!” There's something about singing these words that fill

the soul with joy, isn't there? By Christmas Eve, our hearts

nearly burst with anticipation, a deep longing to sing with

"Joy to the World", with everything that's in us. We long to quiet ourselves

in a crowded sanctuary, next to people we love. To hear the same old,

extraordinary story of the impossible, becoming reality. Yet “Joy to the

world, the Lord has come!”, isn't simply a Christmas song we love to sing

one month a year. “Joy to the world, the Lord has come!”, is the heart song

of every believer, every day of the year! God loves us. God kept his

promise. God is with us.

Wherever, however you find yourself this Advent Season, tuck these words

of hope, love and truth in your heart, “Joy to the World! The Lord has

come!!” God sent Jesus to reconcile the world to himself.

Jesus was sent to set us free. Jesus was sent so that God is always With Us.

Jesus was sent to bring us new life. Jesus' coming changes

everything! “Joy to the world, the Lord has

come!”

A NOTE FROM

GREG BUSH:

I am looking forward to

celebrating the birth of Jesus.

As a Christian, the holidays

mean so much more to us than

just another day. As we grow as true disciples

of Jesus, we need to purpose in our hearts to

help those that are in need. The Christmas

season is difficult for many families due to the

lack of food, adequate clothing, or even the

ability to pay their utilities. It is a challenge for

us to reach into our pockets and help those in

need. If you are looking for an opportunity to

help a family; ask those that are in leadership.

We have several families that we know could

use the assistance.

As we end this year, I know that many of us

will focus on a New Year’s Resolution. It is my

prayer that many of us will decide to be a more

faithful disciple of Jesus Christ. That may look

different from person to person. Our goal

should be to look more like Christ every day.

How do we become more like Christ? One

great way is to attend a Sunday school or

discipleship class. This may be the year that

you step out in faith and lead your own

discipleship group. You do not have to be a

great leader or teacher to organize a class; you

only need to be a person with a heart and a

desire to please Christ.

Blessed in Christ, Greg

SPECIAL

THANK YOUS

To Our Church Family, “We thank you for

remembering us at the time of the passing of Ed’s sister,

Elaine Burge. We appreciate the prayers, cards, memory

gifts and especially the lovely wind chimes given in her

memory.” Our love, Ed & Sue Frye

“I just wanted to thank the members of the church for the

thoughtful cards and continued support of my mother,

Esther Reeves. She was a member of the church for

several years and enjoyed the church services. It means a

lot to me that everyone has been so kind, even though my

mother is at the Carriage Inn, now and can’t join the

services.” Heather Clark

To Our Church Family, “Thanks to all who sent cards and

more importantly said prayers. We appreciate all of your

kind gestures.” Chuck & Kitty Coleman

“To all of those who were involved in Kids 4 Christ. We

want to thank you for your volunteered time, prayers, &

donations. We could not have made this happen without

all your help. The children were such a blessing to us.

God is on the move in Richmond! Thank you all!!”

Love, Tera Scholl & Marci Crawford

Norma Daugherty would like to thank everyone for their

cards and prayers. She really appreciates it!

Dear Church Family, “Thanks for all the prayers & cards

during my recent eye surgery. Starting to do better.”

RADICAL HOSPITALITY EVERYTHING belongs to God and we're

responsible, commissioned stewards of

God's Spirit in our lives. In that spirit, we

prepare our hearts and lives for Christ's

coming. In that same spirit, we enter the

Advent season, offering radical, intentional

hospitality...offering the best seats &

parking spots to our guests. Jesus offered us

his best, we are his guests, and we offer our

best to our guests. If a special seat is

important to you, please arrive early as we

ask everyone not to save seats. Offer radical

hospitality to one another. Ushers will be

assisting in seating on Christmas Eve. This

is our opportunity to offer ourselves in

radical hospitality.

HEALTHY CHURCH INITIATIVE
