SO LONG from the staff of the NTA: Supervisory Director, Chief Scorer, Directors, FLASH Editor. It has been our pleasure to serve you and work with you during this tournament. See you in Tampa in the Spring!

Newly elected President George Hudson would like to thank ABA members for their support in his election. A special thanks goes to Jewel Chapman, chairman of the “Committee to elect George Hudson” and to Regena Edwards for spearheading the mail balloting campaign. He will work with the Board of Directors, the staff, and Association members as a “team” for the betterment of the ABA.

The new president of the ABA is George Hudson of the Eastern Section, Jamaica, NY. George is a native of St. Louis, MO and began playing bridge in high school. His mother, Mrs. Veta Hudson was a bridge player and as many “children” of bridge players can attest, encouraged George to learn the game. George actually joined the ABA in the late 50’s while still in HS. Mr. Turner of St. Louis was his first partner. As life goes, he stopped playing for a while but restarted in 1963 and has continued to play since that time. George moved to NYC in 1975 and shortly thereafter began a partnership with one of ABA’s stalwart players, Larry Berkley in 1978 and played with him until his demise in 2003. George has partnered with John Washington, Jimmy Pelham, Errol Grant, and most recently with Sylvia Christian, Harriett Buckman, Benny Patton, and his significant other, Cheryll Jones. (They won the Consolation of the Pauline Taylor Mixed Pairs Sunday.) When asked about his plans for his administration, George stated that his #1 priority is membership recruitment and reclaiming members through offering bridge lessons through existing clubs and units. We need to enhance our efforts in Bridge Education and instruction. The efforts of Regena Edwards have been very effective in adding names to our organization. Secondly, and as important, George plans to have our National tournaments in cities where we have members who can put 20-30 tables in play from the city and in locations that are accessible for many. (Editor’s note: our most successful tournaments have been in cities where players could easily drive.) Hopefully we will return to knowing where our tournaments will for at least a two year notice. George is the proud father of two daughters and two grandchildren that reside in St. Louis. Good Luck Mr. President!

Cheryll Jones, President of the ABA Foundation George Hudson, newly elected ABA President
