I recently received this email from Fr. Jeff:
Thank you for having me back to the parish; it was a wonderful day for me. It was a great joy to cele-brate Mass once again in the church, which continues to become more and more beautiful. Likewise, the reception was really well done and you all overwhelmed me with such kind gestures. Thanks for forward-ing this message as well. Continued prayers for you and all.
I echo Fr. Jeff’s gratitude to all who worked to organize and set up for the reception, prepared the food, and cleaned up afterward.
+ + + The annual Life Chain is this afternoon along Route 211 in Middletown, beginning at 2:00pm. In addition, this fall’s 40 Days for Life campaign began on Wednesday near Planned Parenthood’s office on Coates Drive. St. John’s is committed to covering every Friday from 7:00am to 12:00pm; there are sign-up sheets in the back of the church. These are both very peaceful but powerful ways by which to give witness to the sanctity of every human life – a topic on which I will write more shortly.
+ + + Liturgical Training Publications has produced a very handy resource entitled Celebrating Sunday for Catholic Families. It includes the gospel for each Sunday, a short reflection, questions that can be discussed both before and after Mass, as well as ways to put that week’s gospel into action. We have purchased a copy for each family in St. John School and in the religious education program; some received them last week, others will get them this week. I hope everyone finds this book helpful in some way.
+ + + We invite all couples celebrating their 25th, 50th, or 60th wedding anniversaries this year to the 12:00pm Mass on Sunday, October 29, at which time we will give them a special blessing. A reception will follow in the parish house. If you’d like to participate, please call or email the parish office with your name, date and church of mar-riage.
+ + + I will be leaving at noontime on Monday for my annual retreat at St. Joseph’s Abbey in Spencer, MA. At the con-clusion of the retreat on Friday morning, I’ll head directly from there to Buffalo, NY for a wedding next weekend; I expect to be back in the parish for the 5:00pm Mass on Sunday. Sacrament of Baptism The sacrament of Baptism is celebrated on the first and second Sundays of the month at 1:30pm. Couples who are awaiting the birth of a child are invited to contact the par-ish office to schedule an appointment with one of the priests.
Sacrament of the Sick
The sacrament of the sick is available to anyone who is acutely or chronically ill, or suffering the effects of age. Please speak with one of the priests.

40 Days for Life
From September 27th through November 5th you’re invited to join other Christians for 40 Days for Life – 40 days of prayer and fasting for an end to abortion.
You’re also invited to stand and peacefully pray during a 40-day vigil in the public right-of-way near Goshen
Planned Parenthood, 7 Coates Drive. St. John's Church sponsors every Friday during the campaign
from 7am - Noon. During these hours we try to get a minimum of two prayer volunteers per hour. Sign up sheets are in the back of the church if you're available to pray at Goshen Planned Parenthood OR you can sign up to pray and day of the week by going to the
website 40daysforlife.com/Goshen. If you’d like more information – and especially if you’d like to volunteer

This Friday, October 6th is First Friday. Confessions will be heard Thursday,
October 5th from 4:00-4:30 p.m. Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament will
begin after the 6:30 a.m. Mass and continue until Saturday morning at
8:00 a.m. There is a sign up sheet where you can list the time you wish to spend with
Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament. Remember the Blessed Sacrament should never be left unattended.

Life Chain You are invited to join the 29th National Life Chain
on Sunday, October 1, from 2:00-3:30pm as we stand for LIFE on Route 211 in Middletown, near
Middletown Honda. The Life Chain is a peaceful, prayerful public witness of over 58 million lives lost to
abortion. Please join us as we pray for our nation, people in crisis situations, conversion of all those
working in the abortion facilities and for an end to abortion. For more information please contact

Today is Guardian Angel Day. The Catholic Daughters will be distributing a
Guardian Angel card to the children of the parish at the end of Mass today.
CYO Basketball registration for Girls and Boys in the 4th through 8th grades will be held October 17th and 19th CJ Hooker New gym.

Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court #918 will meet on Tuesday, October 3rd in the
Rectory Meeting Room at 7:00pm.
Two years ago, Catholic Charities Community Services of Orange and Sullivan revived the annual GOSHEN
CHRISTMAS HOUSE TOUR. In that short time, it’s grown in popularity, and has become a very
important fund-raiser: every dollar goes to the relief of those in need right in our community. This year’s tour is on Saturday, December 2. While we’ll have plenty of visitors, we do need a few more homeowners in
and near the village who might be willing to decorate their homes and open them to visitors. The reward is literally out of this world – with the added benefit of getting your decorating done early! If you’d like to learn more, or would consider participating, please contact Sheila Toohey at CCCSOS (294-5124, ext.
308; [email protected]). St. John’s Rosary Makers are starting a new meeting schedule. Please join them on Saturday, October 7th
at 10:00am and/or Wednesday, October 11th at 3:30pm in the Parish Center 2nd Floor . They make
rosaries for the poor missions all around the world and locally. Please call Mary Anne Saviello for more
