JOY-Full Socks was launched in 2011 by Leslie Cassidy-Amadio.
She is launching this campaign again in hopes of once again helping
those in need. It is very easy to be involved. You can purchase a
pair of socks; men’s, women’s or children’s and fill them with age
and gender appropriate grooming articles. Grooming
products may include soap, shampoo, cream rinse, toothpaste,
toothbrush, floss, hand lotion, combs, hair brushes or razors. Just to mention a few items.
You can donate in many ways: purchase and fill socks, donate socks unfilled or donate grooming products.
There are so many ways to be involved and each and every way will make a difference.
The filled socks and other donations are presented to seven different charities, including the Soup
Kitchen. Last year, thanks the generous donations, we were able to help over 300 individuals in need
at Christmas time, many of them were children.
Please contact Leslie (705) 779-2836 for any additional
information or to pick up your donation, by December 4th, 2017.
In response to the Rohingya persecution in Myanmar, the Canadian Catholic Organization for
Development and Peace-Caritas Canada is working with Caritas Bangladesh to support a food distribution
program along the border with Myanmar. Development and Peace is also assisting Bangladesh with food
and other emergency relief, given the enormous strain that the refugee crisis is
having on their own country’s very limited resources.
Until 28 November 2017 the Government of Canada will match all donations
made to Development and Peace or any other eligible Canadian charity. If you
wish to make a financial contribution to the Myanmar Crisis Relief Fund, we
invite you to consult the following website for instructions on how to
Proceed: https://www.devp.org/en/emergencies/bangladesh. Thank you!

St. Gregory's Senior Citizen Non-Profit Homes of
Sault Ste Marie
In the beginning, after a survey had been completed in the west end of the city by the city planning department to assess housing needs it was apparent that senior citizens wanted a senior complex built in the area in which they lived. Seniors indicated they wanted to stay in their own neighbourhood. In 1985, Gerry
Duffy from the City Planning Division approached St. Gregory's Parish Council & then pastor Father Bill
Strachan to ask if we would be the sponsoring body for a 25 unit senior citizen complex to be built in our area. No money would be required from the parish or the
diocese. The monies to build the complex would be funded by the federal & provincial governments. Parish Council took time to discuss our involvement and to become better informed. Information regarding this
project was presented to our parishioners who supported the project. We said yes to the project and the opportunity to provide affordable housing to seniors. As a parish community we accepted the responsi-
bility to form a board of directors from our parish community to manage the affairs of the complex. This would be our ongoing responsibility to fulfill our part of the contract. The former St. Joseph School property was donated by the Separate School Board for $1.00. The property was valued at that time to be $100,000.
Canada Mortgage & Housing Corp. guaranteed a $1.! million loan for construction, which lasted 6 months, and pledged a $3.1 million subsidy over 35 years to allow rents to remain below market average.
August 31, 1985 - Sod Turning Ceremony took place. Sept. 20, 1986 - Official Opening Ceremony took place. It is a beautiful complex with 24 one bedroom units and one 2 bedroom unit. Five units are fair market rent
and the others are geared to income. Two of the units are suitable for people with handicaps. There is a center court with dividers between the patio doors of the units to offer privacy. We are the first housing
project undertaken by Catholic-related organizations in Sault Ste Marie. We were the first such complex in Sault Ste Marie for the west end. Bishop Bernard Pappin of the diocese of Sault Ste Marie was
present at the opening ceremony and blessed the complex. Our mortgage will be paid in the year 2022. The mortgage was taken for 35 years.
The Corporation (members of St Gregory's Parish) have been for 31 years providing governance for this complex. In 5 years the mortgage will be paid. We need to continue to have members in good standing
from our parish volunteer to serve on the board in order to fulfill our part of the contract.
St Gregory's Senior Citizen Homes
The Board of Director's wish to thank all who attended our 31st Annual General Meeting. A
special thank you to Jill Hewgill and Patti Harnden for their past service as directors on our Board.
Your contribution has been invaluable. We welcome David Amadio as our newly elected director
to the board and look forward to having him as part of our team. The present Board of Directors
were acclaimed as follows: Shirley Kindred, Mary Guzzo, Vicky Bellerive, Carmelina Spry
and Cathy D'Addario. Copies of the AGM are available at the back of the church.

I am pleased to invite you to join us on our pilgrimage to Poland this April 28 until May 14, 2018. What a wonderful op-portunity this will be to journey together in faith.

Faustina), Czestochowa (Black Madonna), Lagiewniki (Divine Mercy Shrine and St. John Paul II Centre Krakow),Kalwaria Zebrzydowska (Weeping Madonna),Wadowice (Birthplace of St. John Paul II and a Museum
dedicated to him), Zakopane (where St. John Paul II skied and where a Church dedicated to Our Lady of Fatima was erected in gratitude by St. John Paul II for Our Lady
saving his life).
There will also be many opportunities to taste many Polish delicacies foods as all meals are included in the price.
Our pilgrimage will be a great blend of spiritual experiences and cultural richness.

Message of Gratitude Words alone cannot begin to express my heartfelt feelings of
GRATITUDE towards the faithful of St. Gregory’s Church.
Your ongoing prayers, love & support throughout my journey to
the Diaconate and as I begin my
ministry are humbly appreciated. A special thank you to all
those parishioners who participated in making the ordination
mass a beautiful gift for the Glory of God. Blessings to
Anastasia Pasiak-Bellini and her music team along with all
those involved in coordinating their efforts and who exemplified
the true nature of the people of St. Gregory’s parish. Space does
not permit me to list the names of the ALL the folks who helped
make this ordination mass a truly memorable time for me
personally and for my family.
Thank You to ALL.
Much gratitude as well to Carmelina Spry and the ladies of the
CWL for their generous support and for their tireless efforts in
preparing the tasty desserts and refreshments for the reception
following the ordination mass. I also wish to acknowledge
our pastor, Fr. Eric Pannike, for his generous support towards
my ministry, his prayers, mentorship and ongoing
encouragement as I begin this journey.
May the Lord continue to bless all with His grace and peace.
