Saturday Night We’re Going to Have Fun If you haven’t already done so, please RSVP for the Spring Soiree on May 2 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. This event,
hosted by Chris & Jen Benoit at their home in Manchester-by-the-Sea, is always one of our favorite signs of
spring. We’re looking forward to a festive evening of cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, filled with good friends,
good cheer and all for a wonderful cause. We’ll be launching this year’s Fund-in-Need, which seeks to
underwrite two critical initiatives identified as areas of immediate need for our school and our children. We’ll
also be drawing the winner of the Cape Air tickets that were included in the Annual Fund Drive earlier this year.
To RSVP, please call Mrs. Deveau at 978-927-8811 today.

Help Rebuild the Wood Fired Oven Any Masons Out There?
The clay oven that we used here at the
school for the last 18 months did not
survive the winter and I took it down over
April break. I'm looking into rebuilding
and considering this design:
(click PompeiiOven). It will go on top of
the granite base in the photo, right. If you'd
like to help, please drop me a line. And if
you have masonry skills, even better (I'll
pay you with bread!). Thanks!

Waldorf Robotics Team Beats the Elite – Congratulations The Green Meadow robotics team, The PolyGnomes, traveled to the First Technology Challenge World
Championships April 21-26 and left tied for fifth place out of 6000 teams. Congratulations! This after a
regular season of winning 50 out of 58 robotics matches; the plucky “Gnomes” from this Waldorf
school in Rockland County, NY, repeatedly beat teams from large schools, elite schools specializing in
STEM, and teams heavily supported by technology companies.
Starting in September, the PolyGnomes wove together a strategic vision of how to achieve high game
scores within their engineering capacity and budget. They engineered a swift, powerful, and versatile
machine that easily navigates the playing field, shoots up and down ramps, wrangles goals, rapidly
sweeps up game elements (whiffle balls) and drops them in increasingly taller scoring tubes, all while
avoiding penalties for infractions and defensive actions by opponents.
While all teams across the country boast top science and math students, the PolyGnomes are considered
unique in that they are also varsity athletes, outstanding musicians, and skilled writers. And, while there
were machines technically superior to theirs, in the end it was the proficiency, focus, and flexible
thinking of the Green Meadow Waldorf students that won so many matches and tournaments this
season. –Editor, from information provided by Green Meadow Waldorf High School

Baby Goats Visit Thank you to the Yoors family for bringing their baby goats by the school
for a visit right before April break. The young children of our after-school
(Goldenstar) program enjoyed the soft, cuddly company, as did parents,
teachers and a few older children milling about after drop off. That’s fifth
grade mom Lindsay Barrett holding the cutie in the photo.
Café Corner - Spotlight on Baking!
The next baker to be spotlighted is Jessica Hanscom! Jessica has baked on and off for the cafe for 2
years, and often makes vanilla raspberry muffins. Her sons Eliot (4) and Lincoln (7) are in nursery and
first grade. Jessica has a BFA from the Montserrat School of Art, where she also met her husband Bill.
They are both talented artists. Jessica focused on different mediums during art school, but enjoyed
quilting and crafting the most. She has a special way with young children, responding to them with
empathy and skill. She is a good friend to those she is friends with, is trustworthy and can be relied
upon. We are lucky to have her at Waldorf School at Moraine Farm.– Sincerely, Jocelyn Schaeffer for
the Café Team
For the week of April 13, thank you
Mary Mansur for the honey,
Johan Frenje for the coffee,
Ilana Spodick for the eggs,
Our kind donor of cups and lids,
Heather Collis Puro for the milk, and
Yoko Yeaton and Dana Dooley for baking.
The café is a 100% volunteer community service run by a small group of dedicated parents. It is also a
school fundraiser. We sell coffee, bagels and homemade baked goods, M-F from 7:45am-8:45am. We
need help! If you would like to staff the table or bake, please write to [email protected]. Please do not
bake with nuts or nut products to protect people with allergies. Thank you!
