Stitching Strips:Bring iron to press-ingsurfaceandpressstripstointerfacing.Pinendsthatdonothaveinterfacingagainstthemoruseagluestickto help hold them in place. Place batting with anotherlayeroffabricbeloworcanvasbehindplacematbeforestitching.

On corner: turn point in toward center matchingfoldwithcornerpoint. Press to crease.

Openfoldedpointandmarkcreaseline.Turnback andfoldoutside corner, right sides together, match lines and stitch, following

markedline.Clipseamto1/4”.Clippointsoseamwillopen.Pressseamopenbeforeturningto right side. Fold to right side and pin in place. Topstitchclosealongedgeoffold.

Set up machine withyourfavoritedecorativestitches.Use a thick thread or 2 threads in one needle and stitch, followingrawedgeofstrips.Dooneverticalandone

horizontal to alle-viatepuckering.Trim outside edge to match 7 verticalstripsand5 horizontal strips.

Markverticalandhorizontalcenterofwovenmat.Place backing fabricwrongsideup.Markverti-cal center and horizontal cen-ter.Placewovenmat matching center.(matisrightsideup)NOTE:Doublecheckthatbackingis2”widerthanmatonall4sides.

For optional flange:placefoldedcontraststrips along edgeofplace-mat. First sides, then top and bottom. Use temporary tape

on edge to hold in place.

Thedesignerensurestheuseofthehighestqualityfabrics,materials,andembellishments.Everypieceishandmadeandisone-of-a-kindsamplesize,untilitisorderedinaspecificsize.Eachhand-beadedclutchorhandbagisex-presslymadebytheowneranddesignerofthebrand name DUGI. Monista Artswasfoundedbytheinfluenceofmultipleillnessesandcancersfor8years.CurrentlyMonicaDuranisstillsufferingwithararecancerthatisterminal.Shefeelslifeisahugecanvasjust waiting to create wonders and beauty. Her art tells a story aboutherlifeandthesufferingoflosinghopeofallthedreamsshehad.Monicastartedworkingnightsonimagesthatreflectedhowshefeltorhowshewishedherlifecouldbe.Throughrevela-tionGodgaveherthisgifttosharewithotherwomenwhoarelostandlivesthathavebeentakenbyillness.Comeandfindastoryofaheroandexperiencethislonglastingjourneytoaroadofsuccess.

A little bit about the artist...Monica Duran

IhaveadegreeinArchitectureandInteriorDesigninAppliedScience.Ihavebeendesigning15yearsnowinarchitectureandinterior design. Due to my illness I was no longer able to main-tainafulltimejob.Istartedcreatingartbackin2006whenIwasdiagnosed with cancer.

As an artist I see images through contemporary eyes, both ab-stractandrealistic.Itrytoconveythesimplicity,elegance,grace,andspiritofmyart.Light,shade,color,andtextureallworkingtogethercreateartwitheyesofGodsnature.MyprimarypiecesofartreflectthejourneyandpainIhavehadtoendureformanyyears. I want others to embrace my work not only as a story but throughthereflectionofwhatisinsideofme.
