We are excited about this school year. We are excited for the opportunities we will have to engage in each other’s lives and in Bible study together. We are excited about the equipping for service that is going to take place across all age groups and ministries. We are excited about the freedoms we have to exalt our God in prayer, praise, and study.

This year we are asking all attenders and members to join us as we endeavor to engage, equip, and exalt. We want to ask each individual to participate on three levels: personal, group, and corporate. You will probably hear us refer to this frequently as 3for3.

Personal is that time alone when you are in prayer, digging into study, or memorizing Scripture. Group is that avenue in which you are joining forces with others to fellowship, pray, worship, and study. And of course, corporate are those times when the larger church family is together in worship venues.

Our goal is to come alongside you and offer you opportunities and resources to grow as a believer in Christ…a disciple of Christ. This small catalog offers a glimpse of all that is going on this academic year. Our corporate times of worship are Sunday mornings at 9 AM and 10:15 AM. We strongly encourage you to attend one of these two services. The first is a more traditional service and the second is a contemporary service.

Please use this small booklet to find places for you to join others in digging into God’s Word and in fellowship. There will be many other special events and activities throughout the school year, and we will update you on those as the year unfolds. This catalog focuses mainly on our discipleship endeavors. If there are any questions that you may have or any assistance that we can give you, please don’t hesitate to ask. It is our honor to serve you as we serve our God together. Our contact information is on the back.

For the Church, Glenn Perry Tony Foreman Senior Pastor Executive/Discipleship Pastor

The Gospel Project

Every story casts His shadow.

66 books.

Dozens of authors.

A holy canon thousands of years in the making. Every word, every verse, bears His testimony of the Holy Messiah, Jesus Christ, and the Eternal King.

The Gospel Project® is a chronological, Christ-centered Bible study for Kids, Students, and Adults that examines how all Scripture gives testimony to Jesus Christ. Over the course of three years, participants will journey from Genesis to Revelation and discover how God’s plan of redemption unfolds throughout Scripture and still today, compelling them to join the mission of God.

This school year we are using The Gospel Project in four major components of our discipleship endeavors:

• King’s Crossing (See Page 3) • UpStreet (See Page 3) • Middle School Ministry (See Page 4) • Adult Sunday School (See Page 31)

We can also provide Gospel Project resources as individual and/or small group resources.

King’s Crossing (Birth - Age 5) Sunday Mornings @ 10:15 AM Sunday Evenings @ 6:30 PM

The early years of a child’s life are extremely important for a variety of reasons…including the development of a belief system. In King’s Crossing, children from birth through age five are introduced to a God who loves them very much. A team of dedicated storytellers, worship leaders, and small group leaders pour into these young children’s lives. The Gospel Project curriculum is used in King’s Crossing to build a solid foundation before these children move on to our elementary-age ministry, UpStreet.

Location: FBCW, King’s Crossing Contact Person Teresa Ott, King’s Crossing Director 740.336.8043 [email protected]

UpStreet (Kindergarten - 4th Grade) Sunday Mornings @ 10:15 AM

UpStreet is our Sunday morning ministry for children in kindergarten through fourth grade. UpStreet utilizes the Gospel Project to lead children into a deeper relationship with and knowledge of God. In UpStreet your children will be active participants in two different environments. In Large Group students worship through music together and participate in the Bible story for the week. An amazing team of storytellers and energetic worship leaders are committed to teaching about God and glorifying Him with your children. A dedicated, dynamic team of Small Group Leaders are there to connect with the children, and connect children with each other and their God.

Students in grades six through eight are encouraged to attend The Vine (see below).

The Vine Our youth/student ministry at FBCW is called The Vine. Students in sixth through twelfth grades meet on Sunday nights at 6:30 PM for fellowship and worship through music and the teaching of God’s Word. Series and topics are chosen that are relevant to the growing faith of these preteens and teens. Some activities and series include all grades, but sometimes we divide the group up by grades to tackle specific topics. Outside of Sunday nights, our Vine students are given the opportunity to serve through service projects, have fun through special events, and grow deeper in their faith through Youth Care Groups (see page 12).

Fall Bible Study Looking for Lovely Tuesday Mornings - 9:30 - 11:15 AM September 13 - October 25

As Christians, we are not promised lives of ease. Often it takes just a small moment of beauty to regain hope and continue on when life is chaotic and unpredictable. Only when we learn to spot the lovely in the midst of hardship can we experience the transcendent peace of God that keeps us persevering when we want to give up. In this 7-session Bible study, we will examine the ordinary people of the Bible—fishermen, gardeners, women, soldiers—to reveal the moments they found beauty in the darkest circumstances and hope in God’s timing. Because they trusted in this: He makes everything beautiful in His time.

Winter Bible Study Anointed, Transformed, Redeemed: A Study of David Tuesday Mornings - 9:30 - 11:15 AM March 14 - April 18, 2017

Anointed, Transformed, Redeemed: A Study of David features Beth Moore, Priscilla Shirer, and Kay Arthur. These three women explore their lives and the life of David in this six-session Bible study. The messages presented by these beloved authors are divided into three segments, two lessons from each author. Each segment focuses on the life of David at a different stage of his life: as a young man, as a middle-aged man, and as a man facing the final third of his life. You'll laugh with them, cry with them, and learn to love God with them.

Frequency - Adults Sunday Evenings - 6:30 PM Location: FBCW, Traditional Sanctuary

Frequency is a mid-sized teaching environment for FBCW. Each week, Frequency offers participants the opportunity to worship through music, the spoken Word, and Communion. This year we have a line-up of different teachers affording a variety of topics. These topics are highlighted on the following pages. While adults are in Frequency, preschool-age students are busy in King’s Crossing (See page 3); elementary-age students are engaged in a variety of studies and activities (see page 22); and sixth through twelfth graders are worshipping, learning, and connecting in the Vine (see page 4).

8 to 15 Dates: September 11 - October 9 Teacher: Tony Foreman

Overview: On the average, each of us has 8 to 15 people, whom God has supernaturally and strategically placed in our relational world so that He might use us to show them His love. The Greeks used one word to describe this personal world - oikos. This study is not about programs or events, but a new way to view the world around us. The oikos principle is one that Jesus designed, modeled and taught, for one purpose, to change the world-a world that might just be smaller than you think!

Return to Mayberry Dates: October 23 - November 13 November 27 - December 11 Teacher: Teddy Tackett

Love Does Dates: January 8 - January 29 Teacher: Tony Foreman

Overview: In Love Does, a four-session study, you will discover through a sometimes humorous, thought-provoking, meaningful lesson that makes faith in God simple and real. You will discover the paradigm shifts, musings, and stories that should fuel our impact for Christ: Love. But it's not the kind of love that stops at thoughts and feelings. Love takes action, just like Jesus did. Love Does. And, when Love Does, life gets interesting. Light and fun, unique and profound, the lessons drawn from life just might inspire you to be secretly incredible too.

Guardrails Dates: February 5 - March 12 Teacher: Jeremiah Kuhn

Overview: Stop flirting with disaster and establish personal guardrails. Guardrails. They're everywhere, but they don't really get much attention ... until somebody hits one. And then, more often than not, it is a lifesaver. Ever wonder what it would be like to have guardrails in other areas of your life-areas where culture baits you to the edge of disaster and then chastises you when you step across the line? Your friendships. Your finances. Your marriage. Maybe your greatest regret could have been avoided if you had established guardrails. In this six-session series, you will be challenged to stop flirting with disaster and establish some personal guardrails.

God’s Global Purpose Dates: March 19 - April 30 Teacher: Suzanne Dietz

Experience God’s heart for all peoples and encounter the momentum of the World Christian Movement. Open your eyes to God’s unchanging purposes. See what God has done in the world since His Son returned to heaven. Explore your own part in this fabulous story. When God Doesn't Make Sense Dates: May 7, 21 & June 4 Teacher: Mike Reel

Overview: It did not make sense that Jesus should have to suffer and die on the cross. It did not make sense that God would choose this manner to reconcile the world to Himself. It did not make sense that the blood dripping from Christ's body would turn God’s wrath away and atone for our sins, but that is exactly what happened. In this three-week study we will try to make sense of why sometimes it seems as though our God does not make sense.

Ever wonder what it would be like to have guardrails in other areas of your life-areas where culture baits you to the edge of disaster and then chastises you when you step across the line? In this six-session series, you will be challenged to stop flirting with disaster and establish some personal guardrails.

The decisions you make today will determine the marriage you will have tomorrow. In From This Day Forward, you will discover five commitments that will absolutely fail-proof your marriage: seek God, fight fair, have fun, stay pure, and never give up. If you and your spouse (or spouse to be) will earnestly commit to do all five of these things, you’ll discover a richer, deeper, more authentic relationship and a more rewarding, more passionate love life. Don’t be a statistic. Don’t be average. Let’s get the marriage you’ve always wanted - from this day forward.

Acts Dates: Wednesdays, January 4 - March 1 Teacher: Tony Foreman Childcare: Yes

Overview: While there are many studies and commentaries on the book of Acts, few focus on the amazing achievement of the people found within its narrative. The first Christians chronicled in Acts turned the world upside down in the space of a generation. We will explore the life and faith of the Christians of Acts, answering such questions as What kind of people were they? How did they live? and How did they organize and practice as members of the new church? Besides unveiling the nature of life in the early church, Green discusses how we today can apply the first Christians' dynamic efforts at church planting, pastoral care, social concern, gospel proclamation, and prayer.

Behold Your God Dates: Wednesdays, March 8 - May 24 Facilitators: Tony Foreman & Others Childcare: Yes

Overview: Behold Your God is a 12-week study. Each week's lesson is preceded by a brief historical profile of a notable man or woman of God such as George Muller, A. W. Tozer, Samuel Rutherford, Charles Spurgeon, Martyn Lloyd-Jones, Amy Carmichael, Robert Murray M'Cheyne, George Whitefield, Daniel Rowland and Jonathan Edwards.

The heart of each week is a 30-minute video on one aspect of the Christian life and how it is affected by a biblical rethinking of God's character. The teaching sessions are led by Dr. John Snyder, pastor of Christ Church in New Albany, Mississippi.

Following each teaching session is a collection of comments from interviews with contemporary Christian leaders who explain how a biblical appreciation of God's character has affected their own lives and ministries. Among these men are Paul Washer, Richard Owen Roberts, Conrad Mbewe, Andrew Davies, Jordan Thomas and Eifion Evans.
