Holy Father’s Prayer Intention

For February 2015

Universal: That prisoners, especially the young, may be able to rebuild their

lives with dignity

For Evangelization: That married people who are separated may find

welcome and support in the Christian community

6th Sunday in Ordinary Time

February 14 & 15, 2015

Leviticus 13:1-2, 44-46 The leper will dwell apart

Psalm 32 “I will turn to you, Lord,

in time of trouble, and you

will fill me with joy of

salvation.”

1 Corinthians 10:31-1:11 Be imitators of me, as I am

Christ.

Mark 1:40-45 The leprosy left him, and

he was made clean.

Today’s first reading and Gospel show us just how Jesus moves

beyond the expected to bring about God’s reign. The first reading

establishes the standard procedure for dealing with lepers and their

disease. Jesus reaches out and touches the leper, breaking the barriers

established by tradition and in so doing proclaiming a new era of

grace, healing and hope. How can we follow His example in breaking

down barriers today?

1st Sunday of Lent

February 21 & 22, 2015

Genesis 9:8-15

Mark 1:12-15

Parish Photo Album

Picture taking to update the Parish Photo Album will be after

the 5:00pm Saturday and after all Sunday Masses on a “first

come first served” basis.

If you plan to stay for picture taking, please park at the school

parking lot and make sure you are not blocking any other cars.

Thank you for your cooperation.

“Your sins are forgiven.” We hear these words so often at

church that they have essentially lost all meaning. They have

certainly lost their shock value.

Then again, imagine Montel, Glenn Beck or Bill Maher fac-

ing off with a guest and simply saying, “Hey. No problem

friend. Your deepest, darkest actions have all been forgiven.”

When it comes to our identity, people tend to go to one of two

extremes. We tend to think we are either completely

worthless or that we are “God’s gift to the world.” Neither

perception is accurate. Absolutely, we do very real, very

serious damage to others. But, we are also completely loved

and accepted - no matter what evil we have done.

So describes the paradox of Lent.

Lent is not about wallowing in unworthiness. It’s not about

erasing our dark sides. It’s about letting ourselves be carried,

letting the paralysis of our lives be brought to God. It is

allowing ourselves to live with the tension that we are neither

totally worthless nor a finished product. We let God surprise

us by saying, “Child, you are forgiven.”

Reflections. Some say an embryo is too small to have human

rights. But rights do not depend on size.

Do men have more rights than women because they are gener-

ally larger? Are shorter people to enjoy fewer protections than

tall people? The size of a person has nothing to do with his or

her value.

Prayer. O God, You have dominion over all things great and

small, and have created a vast variety of life. May we rever-

ence the very smallest of our brother and sister.
