6th ANNUAL STONE MOUNTAIN PLEIN AIR PAINT OUT In Stone Mountain Park and the historic Village of Stone Mountain Saturday, September 28, 2019 8:30am - 5:00pm (Check-in begins at 8:00am) The Stone Mountain Plein Air Paint Out, now in its 6 th year, has become a favorite for artists. Don’t miss your chance to experi- ence it for yourself. Artists are the reason we do the Stone Mountain Plein Air Paint Out, and we hope you will join us this year. The Stone Mountain Plein Air Paint Out is presented by ART Station Contemporary Arts Center and Stone Mountain Park, and artists of all skill levels (18 and older) are invited to compete. Artists may paint in the historic Village of Stone Mountain and in Stone Mountain Park, featuring 3,200 acres of natural beauty, and numerous attractions. Artists may bring friends and family to enjoy the Park and the Village while they paint. The purpose of the event is to increase awareness of, and appreciation for the scenic appeal of the Park and surrounding com- munity; and, to bring artists to the area. The event also gives area residents and Park visitors the unique chance to watch and interact with working artists. Artwork may include oils, acrylics, pastels, water media, and drawing media (pencil, charcoal, conte', pen and ink), or a combi- nation of any of the listed materials. Photography is not eligible. All work must be completed solely by the artist, on stamped canvas or paper, on site, without photographic or mechanical assistance, during the period of the paint out (8:30 am - 3:00 pm). Each artist may submit two paintings for judging by 3:00 pm, which will be displayed on the artist’s easel. No framing is required. A reception for the artists will be held from 4-5:00 pm, and awards will be presented. JUROR & WORKSHOP INSTRUCTOR—JOHN GUERNSEY Georgia artist, John Guernsey, is a contemporary landscape painter, known for his sensitive depiction of light and atmosphere. He paints not just nature, but also architecture, city street scenes, still life and complex interiors. John has participated in Plein Air events throughout the country, recently winning “Best in Show” in the 2019 Olmsted Plein Air Event in Atlanta. John’s paint- ings have been exhibited in numerous group and solo shows, and his work was featured in Plein Air Magazine. PLEIN AIR WORKSHOP: FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 27, 2019 9:00 PM-4:00 PM In this one-day workshop for oil painters, John will share strategies for painting en plein air, from selecting a subject to creating paintings with a professional and dynamic look. You will gain new insights and skills in color mixing, light and shadow theory, and brushwork. Increase your confidence in the painting process and learn ways to handle complex subject matter with great ease and simple gestures. Expect a focused, yet relaxed, atmosphere with lots of fun and camaraderie.
