    My Story...

    For me, it all began in tiny town called Eagle Lake,Minnesota. I grew up in a lower middle-class family, and Inever had the means to go to college. But like you, Ivealways had big dreams.

    When I was 14 years old, a neighbor loaned me an Apple II

    computer during Christmas vacation, which was anincredible gift for me. I was one of four kids, and my entirefamily lived off of my fathers humble earnings as a barber.

    A new computer is something my family could neverafford.

    Knowing that my time with this precious device waslimited, I took advantage of the opportunity. That

    weekend, I taught myself how to program my friends

    computer. I was enthralled, captivated, and completelyinfatuated with the possibilities the instrument represented.I did little else than tinker with that computer all weekend.Eventually, my insatiable desire to master the computing

    world led me into a niche field that eventually became myticket out of Eagle Lake and into California. I started

    writing video games.

    I have always loved movies, entertainment, music, and

    video games. So, this transition was a natural progressionfor me. In fact, my first company, Digital Cafe, combined

    each of these passions in one place. Founded in 1989,

    Digital Cafe was one of the first interactive marketingagencies. Our specialty was making promotionalentertainment productslittle marketing movies, CD-ROMs, custom music, animations, video games, and screensavers for big brands.

    It took me until my late 20s (and I busted my butt to getthere) but eventually, my business partner and I picked up20th Century Fox and Sony Entertainment as clients, and

    we started developing video games and screen savers topromote their movies.

    Eventually, our clients asked us to come out to Los Angelesto meet with them. It was the middle of February, and trustmegetting a couple of Minnesota kids to come to sunnyCalifornia wasnt hard to do! We were leaving behindblistering temperatures of 30 degrees below zero, and we

    were full of ideas about movie stars, glitz, and glamour. To

    get an image of who were at this stage in our lives, justimagine a couple of Northern hicks from the movie, Fargo,on their way to Hollywood for the first time. Our level ofenthusiasm and excitement was off the charts.

    The moment I got off the plane, I smelled flowers inFebruary. I saw the intense violet Jacaranda trees bloomingin the winter. I will never forget the smells, sights, sounds,and feelings of my first trip to California. The Avenue of

    the Stars, Sunset Strip, Kodak Theater, Mann ChineseTheater, Santa Monica Boulevard and Beverly Hillsthesewere landmark sites I had previously only seen on TV. I fell

    in love on that trip, and thats one of the reasons I live in

    Southern California today.

    I dont know about you, but whenever I watch theAcademy Awards, the Grammys and the Emmys... I used toimagine myself getting an Oscar, Grammy, or Emmy. Howabout you? Most everyone I know wants to beacknowledged and recognized for his or her good work,skills, talents, creativity, accomplishments, results, know-how, experience, and expertise.

    But, at least for me, its never been about the glamour ofthe award, the fame, or the money. I always just imaginedmyself giving my acceptance speech, waving to the cameraand saying hi, Mom. I wanted to feel like all my hard

    work and efforts had paid off, and I wanted to thank thepeople who mattered, who contributed, who got me there.

    And then... I wanted to be able to leverage that fame to

    make an even bigger difference, to be able to contributehundreds of thousands or millions of dollars to charities,people, and organizations that need help.

    From the deepest fiber of my being, that is what inspires,drives, connects, and reconfirms my commitment to doingthe hard work it takes to make a difference and besuccessful in this world. Although money and recognitionfeel nice in the momentthose benefits are mere

    byproducts of what really matters to meimpacting livesfor the greater good.

    Life Is Short

    I have a confession to make. Something very dramatichappened to me a few months ago. It was scary, and I dont

    wish it on anyone, but when all was said and done, it re-connected me to my deepest mission and my big why. Ifyouve ever faced the worst thing imaginableloss of

    everything, death of a loved one, or a death sentence ofyour ownyoull know what Im talking about.

    A couple months ago, I was diagnosed with cancer. At just46 years old, all of my dreams were shattered in a singleinstant of bad news.

    After an exam, my doctor informed me that I had a largemalignant tumor growing inside me. For three long days, I

    didnt know if I should expect to live another month, for90 days, or for a year. And even if I was expected to live, Ihad no idea how this could affect the quality of my life. Iimagined the worst.

    I have abigmission. I have a huge message, a huge dreamthats still inside of me. And, I have a family who I cannotbear to think about leaving behind a beautiful wife andincredible 10 year old son who still needs his daddy. I never

    thought Id be that guy with cancer. I simply neverthought it would happen to me.

    I have to admit, its been rough. As I write this, I amrecovering from major surgery and Ive been going througheight months of aggressive chemotherapy, radiation and acombination of complementary and alternative therapies,nutrition, supplementation, meditation and energy work.

    For as many as ten days in a row, I was not able to get outof bed. On the bad days, I would walk around with my eyesclosed just to conserve energy. Drinking a glass of cold

    water felt like I was swallowing broken glass.

    The good news isit looks like Im going to be okay, and Ithink the worst is behind me. We were able to catch itbefore the cancer spread... which would have only given mea year or less to live.

    Im not telling you this for sympathy, pity, or mercy.

    Im sharing this with you because it reminded me that Ihave a lot to live formy family, my young son and wife,my parents, my brothers and sisters, incredible friends andan incredibly supportive community. I also have abigdream that I still need to share with the world. I still havethis vision that I can radically transform and change lives ata massive scale. My plan is to create one million successfulentrepreneurs worldwide. I want to help create one millionmillionaires who can use my tools get their message and

    Think about the movie stars of the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s

    who are now broke and selling shoes for a living. Yessome squandered their money and made poor choices, butnone of them were paid for their efforts in entirety, andmany were cheated out of their right to wealth by shadyaccounting schemes. They all had to rely on a middleman of some sort to take their art and put it into the

    world for them. They didnt control the KING of platform:distribution.

    The Internet has changed all of that. Today, distribution ispractically free. Its democratic.

    There is no longer the need to deal with a greedy middleman. All you need is an index finger and a laptop, and youhave access to 88% of the entire human race.

    SAQs are should ask questions. These are the questionsyou wish people would ask you.     The biggest difference between FAQs and SAQs is thatwhen people hear your response to an SAQ, they will becaptivated by your knowledge, know-how, and wisdom.Theyll be transfixed by your expertise and realize they

    As a result, theyll quickly realize youre the answer to theirproblem or challenge.     Exercise:

    Once youve finished writing down your questions, record

    yourself answering each question on video. (Again, be sureto speak directly your ideal customer.)

    A couple of notes about this process. First, make sure thequestions and answers are true to your story. Remember,the content you deliver should be congruent with yourpersonal narrative. Next, do not create misleading videos.Make sure you answer specific questions and fully address agiven topic. Dont be vague and try to cover too much

    territory in a single video.

    Lastly, youre educating, not selling. Give enoughinformation for people to take the next step. Make sure youreveal enough information for people to begin to know,like, and trust you. Remember, your job is to establish yourexpertise and make people interested in the content youhave to offer.

    If you pitch them too early or make these videos all aboutyou, youre going to turn people off. Unless youre really agoof, you wouldnt ask a woman to marry you on the firstdate, would you? Well, then, dont make a move thatsoffensive until you have permission first (and thatsdiscussed in the fifth P Profit).

    a million dollars. I struggled for years and went on alifelong quest searching for the gift or the secret. In the most intense versions of the narrative, thehero must survive a severe challenge, often with help. If thehero survives, he may achieve a great gift or "boon." Thehero must then decide whether to return to the ordinary

    world with this boon. If the hero does decide to return, heor she often faces challenges on the return journey. If the
