InfoWatch flaunts mobile security solutionsDLP Solutions form InfoWatch is showcasing its latest mobile security solutions at this year’s GITEX technology week.

The company will also promote their flagship solutions launched earlier this year including InfoWatch EndPoint Security, and InfoWatch Traffic Monitor Enterprise 5.0 version with new user interface and specifically aimed at solving enterprise business tasks.

At the show, these solutions will be offered through InfoWatch partners: Scope Middle East and Fakhro Electronics.

“As we witness data leakage incidents increasing globally, InfoWatch’s main message for visitors to this year’s GITEX Technology Week is that securing data is more important now than ever before,”

Natalya Kaspersky, CEO, InfoWatch Group of Companies, says. “With the explosion of targeted attacks, and with employees increasingly using their own devices at work, it is imperative to have the right solutions in place to protect confidential data. Our commitment to preventing data leaks is reinforced by our presence at industry leading events like GITEX, and we look forward to further building strong partnerships in the Middle East in the years to come”.

In addition to their technologies, InfoWatch offers an extended technical programme delivered by their experts to provide partners’ technical teams with knowledge of data leakage prevention.

All the partners also undergo InfoWatch certification to be qualified as InfoWatch’s certified partners.

Arbor Networks has announced today the implementation of a DDoS Solution for Saudi Telecom Company (STC) for protection against internet based attacks that impact data centres, networks and applications.

Originally a national telco, Saudi Telecom Company (STC) is now active across the GCC.

Its growth in little more than a decade and a half has seen it offer landline, mobile and Internet services to ever increasing markets.

STC now serves just under 170m customers nationally and internationally - today it is the largest telecommunications company by market capitalisation, total revenue and number of employees in the Arab region.

However, such growth and increased visibility also brings

problems. Today, like telcos worldwide, STC’s revenue model depends on a shift from traditional voice/SMS services to ‘always on’ mobile/mobile data paradigms - capacity issues are one concern, but more serious perhaps is the need to assure customers that secure and reliable mobile broadband performance will

also be ‘always on’.Mahmoud Samy, Regional Director,

Middle East, Russia and CIS, Arbor Networks, says, “The ‘secure’ element is a major concern for mobile operators as attacks by rogues or criminals increase globally. While public perception focuses on malware for mobile phones, for telcos the

real threat lies in the major potential damage of a large Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack on the network.”

For example, Arbor Network’s last annual Worldwide Infrastructure Security Report saw a quarter of all service providers experiencing DDoS attacks but almost a third not knowing whether such attacks were occurring because of a lack of a suitable security solution.

Realising that its business needed to be secured, STC turned to Arbor Networks who had already implemented world class security systems for many large telcos, including Ooredoo in Qatar. It has now implemented a suite of solutions to monitor, analyse and protect its mobile network operations through two major lines of defence, enhanced by Arbor Networks.

LaserficheTraining Coming to the Middle East

STC announces Arbor implementation

With the number of Laserfiche users growing each year, Laserfiche aims to continue building the community of support for its customers and resellers in the region. This entails bringing together local resellers and their customers through participation in training sessions, workshops and other regional events.

A two-week roadshow, featuring workshops and full-day trainings, was conducted in the cities of Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Doha earlier this year. Another set of trainings will be conducted by local resellers ISB, Tafeel and Al Zayani in Riyadh and Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and Manama, Bahrain in November.

Attendees will get the chance to meet with other users and their local reseller to learn more about the latest features in the Laserfiche suite. They will also gain hands-on experience and can participate in discussions to hear how other users are taking advantage of the vast functions of Laserfiche.

Kaspersky Lab unveils MiddleEastern cyber-threats

The number of users facing local and web threats has increased by several percentage points compared with the same period in 2013.

The company also registered a rise in the number of mobile threats and attacks that aim to steal users’ banking credentials. The number of mobile infections reported during Q3 2014 was 3.5 times higher than the figure for the same period in 2013. The number of Banking Trojan incidents recorded during Q3 2014 doubled compared with the previous year.

KSN statistics for July-September 2014 show that the highest numbers of local and web threat incidents were reported in the UAE and Saudi

second user in the region comes across local threats (malware spread in local networks, by USBs, CDs, DVDs), and every fourth user faces online threats associated with the Internet.

Kaspersky Lab has presented the latest changes and statistics for Middle East threat landscape from the third quarter of 2014 at GITEX.

Based on data from Kaspersky Security Network, on average every

Arabia, followed by Egypt. Egypt continues have the highest number of users affected by local threats – 49.6%, up from 47.8% a year earlier. Qatar still has the highest web threat level with 30.8% of users facing threats while online (29.3% a year ago). Bahrain and Lebanon have one of the lowest threat levels in Middle East for both online and local threats.

“The cyberspace trends that we mentioned before continue to develop in the region: we’re seeing the spread of politically-oriented malware, an increase in the amount and sophistication of financial fraud, Crypto Ransomware,

TP-LINK grows with its partners

TP LINK, a provider of networking products, has been exhibiting at GITEX since 2006. That was the year TP-LINK had entered the Middle Eastern market when the total revenue that came from the region was just half a million dollars.

This is TP LINK’s eighth GITEX and the team is proud of the revenue

pulled in for the outgoing year from the region for 2013 which was a $100 million, says Jason Xu, VP, Asia Pacific & Middle East\Africa, TP-LINK.

Xu attributes the success to the company’s relationship with resellers in the region – gaining distributors for MEA region was the intention from day one.

This year the company’s focus is on managing existing partnerships and gaining stability within the region. The company intends to invest largely in channel partner programs and get closer to the end-user through these.

It holds training sessions periodically for the resellers that also

feed the R&D team with where the technology is headed in the region.

The technology we are displaying this year is geared to support Smart Cities, Xu adds. In line with the smart city theme, TP-LINK is showcasing its latest ADSL2+ Modem Router—Archer D9, AC1900 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit ADSL2+ Modem Router this year. The company will also introduce layer 3 switches to make sure high levels of bandwidth flow do not become a challenge.

The technology employed by the Archer D9 directs WiFi signals to connected devices over long distances.

Looking ahead, Xu is optimistic of TP-LINK’s business not only in the U.A.E but also in Iraq and other Middle Eastern countries currently in economic transition.

“Smart cities co-exist with stable governments which other Gulf States should have within the next few years – that should lead to a much bigger footprint of TP-LINK throughout Middle East”, Xu hints as the company’s strategy for Middle East region for the next two years.

advantage to suggest a similar activity to Dubai World Trade that would take place at shops instead – Dubai Shopping Festival.

“Today the market demand is inclined towards tablets – so our production stands at 70-80k of tablets assembled per month in China for the Middle East, Africa and South Asia,” Meghani says.

Touchmate’s presence at GITEX this year resonates this shift in consumer demand. The products it is showcasing this year target young adults – Transformers Game Pad and Windows Matrix Tab 8. The USPs of both the products are the processor speed and storage.

“Touchmate has a tradition of introducing companies to GITEX. This year it is our partnership with Transformers that should benefit both the companies,” Menghani adds. “Smartphones will be our forte next year.”

DDoS and other targeted attacks on companies,” said Ghareeb Saad, Senior Security Researcher, Kaspersky Lab. “Meanwhile threats related to local networks, removable devices and the Internet are also there and spreading. Any of these threats can cost time, data and money. So companies and home users should be aware of the risks and protect their computers and mobile devices by using comprehensive security solutions and following sensible security guidelines.”

Kaspersky Lab experts are available at GITEX at Stand A1-11 in Hall 1 (Network & Security).

FireEye keeps its gaze on APTs

FireEye has their own booth at Gitex for the second year in a row and new space is not all that they are acquiring. Since their acquisition of Mandiant, a key incident response firm in the region, this leader in cyber security and malware attacks has been ramping up operations, and

it shows. The FireEye platform provides real-time dynamic threat protection without the use of signatures. They protect across three main threat vectors – email, web and files.

“We are growing,” says Sherif El Nabawi, Director of Professional Services, Middle East, Turkey and

Africa. “In the past four years, for example, our team on the ground has grown from four to 75 individuals.”

As the company grows, it recognises that participation in Gitex is key to connecting with its customers and competition in the region. “Every year we see more and more participants and new vendors,” says El Nabawi. “We come not only to see our customers, to but to see the competitor landscape.”

FireEye has its view firmly on security, and most keenly on advanced persistent threats and continuous attacks. “We protect businesses from the unknown,” explains El Nabawi. As attacks change, he explains, FireEye intends on changing as well – the company calls this Adaptive Defense. “It is more than just a managed solution,” says El Nawabi, “it is a solution with FireEye intelligence behind it.”

As for coming trends, El Nabawi points out the changing attitude toward security. “A simple anti-virus solution is not enough anymore,” he says, “Advanced Persistent Threats will continue until they are stopped or until they succeed.” FireEye aims to be the company to stop these threats before criminals benefit.

As for FireEye’s participation in next year’s event – “Of course we will be here,” says El Nabawi. “In fact, we have already confirmed our spot!”
