Dear Friends,

We greatly appreciate your valued partnership and support, especially in the past year. Over the last several months, Loaves & Fishes has adapted to serve the dramatic increase of struggling families in our community and the many challenges brought on by the economic fallout caused by the pandemic. In order to provide a safe environment for our clients, volunteers and staff, Loaves & Fishes adapted its grocery distribution model to curbside delivery and reduced the number of people in the building by over 80%.

We have jump-started our technology initiative by creating the Virtual Food Drive, where donors can purchase food directly through our website. We also streamlined our client registration process through additional technology where clients can check in instantaneously via QR codes on their phone or by using their Loaves & Fishes card.

Before the pandemic, Loaves & Fishes’ grocery assistance program served, on average, 789 families a week. We are now serving approximately 909 families a week. At our Bolingbrook satellite location, we have seen the number we serve triple. Loaves & Fishes relies on local grocery partners for its food rescue program. During the beginning of the pandemic, we experienced a significant reduction in this food supply; additionally, we were unable to accept physical food donations due to safety concerns. Because of these challenges, we are purchasing far more food to meet the demand.

Our Loaves & Fishes CARES Programs provide additional resources to help struggling families with essential needs. Our volunteer team adapted to virtual consultations and worked around the clock, assisting clients needing help for utilities and rent. Calls for this emergency assistance have doubled during the pandemic.

In short, our dedicated staff and volunteers have been doing a lot more with a lot less.

Food insecurity and financial distress continue to rise, and families will continue to need our help. The community has very graciously stepped up to help us address the increase in demand. It is our responsibility and commitment that we remain steadfast in our mission by providing healthy food and impactful programs to promote long-term results for families struggling with hunger and economic instability.

Together, we will move forward with unwavering purpose to achieve a lasting impact for those in need in our community.

Emergency Assistance PartnersOur emergency assistance program provides financial assistance to pay for basic needs like rent and utilities and it leverages agency funds by collaborating and coordinating assistance packages with local congregations, government and social service agencies to maximize assistance without the duplication of services.
