Therefore will you help pray for vocations? At the front entrance of the church, we have a calendar where you may sign up for you and your family to pledge to pray for 1 week for vocations. Just your name and phone number by a date and time. At the end of the Mass (on the date & time you signed by) you will be
asked to come up and pick up the vocations chalice. You take it home and pray for the next 7 days/nights then bring it back to Mass the following weekend. We ask that you please place it on the right hand side table beside the altar before Mass begins. Prayers are included in the chalice box or you may look up vocations prayers online at usccb.org/vocation prayers. Why Pray for Vocations? Reason #1-We need more priests and religious! The Church’s need for priests is growing. As priests die and retire, not enough men are being ordained to replace them. Meanwhile, the Catholic population is growing. This leads to painful parish closings, mergers, and over-worked priests. Likewise, the number of religious sisters has plummeted by nearly 70% in the past 50 years, which means fewer sisters in schools, hospitals, and other critical Catholic missions. Reason #2-We need the Eucharist “Considering that the Eucharist is the greatest gift our Lord gives to his Church, we must ask for priests since the priesthood is a gift for the Church. We must pray insistently for this gift. We must ask for it on our knees.”-Pope John Paul II. Reason #3-“Prayer is the “one thing necessary” “I often think that prayer–the unum necessarium-is the one aspect of vocations work which we tend to forget or to undervalue.”-Pope Benedict XVI. Reason #4-Prayer works! “If we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have obtained the requests made of him.” ~ 1 John 5:14-1

Second Sunday of Lent- This week we move from temptation in the desert to transfiguration and glory. Early in our Lenten journey we are given a hint of the resurrection. But first we must recognize the truth of St. Paul – that all of us are called to bear our share of hardship for the Gospel. Perhaps the mountain we must climb with Christ is one of sharing our time or ourselves with others. Perhaps we are called to greater simplicity of life and generous sharing of our material possessions. Each of us is called to die to self to live for Christ. What death must we die to share in Christ’s glory? _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
