A Prayer for Priests
Dear God, we praise and thank You for sending us priests, Your
chosen shepherds who lead us, the Body of Christ, to You.
May they know in their hearts a deep, abiding love for Jesus
truly present in the Blessed Sacrament, and our support as well.
Anoint them with Your Holy Spirit to share Your love reverently
and joyfully through their celebration of Holy Mass and the
sacraments, the witness of their lives, and their service to the
poor. Strengthen them to be worthy ministers of Your Son and
bearers of His joy. Please send forth laborers into Your harvest–
holy priests who love Your people as You love them.
Dear Mother Mary, please wrap all of our priests in your mantle
of love, and Saint Joseph, please protect and strengthen them.
We ask this through the intercession of Saint John Marie
Vianney, in the name of Jesus Our Lord.
Amen

Greetings from Father Gonyo
Dear Parishioners and Friends,
This weekend we celebrate the mystery of God, expressed as the union
between the three Persons of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. This
understanding of the nature of God is "monotheistic" as opposed to
"polytheistic" because Christians understand God as One, not three
separate entities. Roman and Greek mythologies had many "gods" and
deities that were entirely different than the Christian/Hebrew under-
standing. But for Christians (and for Jewish and Islamic people), God is
One, not many.
Within the Gospel of John, we hear phrases that include, "The Father
and I are One." or "He who sees me, sees the Father." Jesus was evi-
dently speaking of himself as "One" with his Heavenly Father, not in
the figurative sense but in actuality. The Son of God was Jesus. Jesus
was God and in God, but also because of the Virgin Mary, now fully
human, and God Incarnate.
This same Jesus would, after his resurrection from the dead, breathe
the "breath" of the Holy Spirit into the apostles, filling them with cour-
age and strength. At the feast of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit would mani-
fest in living flame and the gift of speaking of tongues, for the whole
world to hear the Gospel Good news of Jesus.
By the year 325, the council of Nicea had largely defined our under-
standing of God, the role of Christ and the saving work of Christ
through the church. We still recite the Nicene creed at Sunday litur-
gies, not as a prayer, but as a summation of our faith. Finally, our whole lives are filled with relationships, beginning with
parents, brothers and sisters, grandparents, uncles, aunts, friends, class-
mates, spouse, children and more.
It would follow that the Holy Trinity can be understood in much the
same way, excepting for the fact that the Trinity is a perfect unity that is
One. Because Jesus (God) adopted our humanity in such a full and
complete manner, we now have the baptismal promise of always being
loved by God, and one day, becoming joined in union with God. God
leads us towards the path of becoming one with God's self and our fel-
low brothers and sisters. But we obviously have a long journey to go
yet! Happy Feast of the Holy Trinity!
God bless you this week!
Fr. Gonyo
