The members of the Wawanesa
Lions Club were excitedly planning
the first meeting of the year – how-
ever, COVID restrictions were re-
newed with the Orange designation so
that meeting was cancelled. They are
hoping that a meeting will be able to
happen in the next few weeks. They
are eager to get active again. Until
then, they encourage everyone to stay
safe: wear a mask, wash your hands,
stay 6 feet from others when visiting
and shopping, etc. This bug may be
around with us for a long while yet,
but we can discourage it by
doing these things. Stay well.
This page sponsored by Wawanesa Mutual Insurance.
The Wawanesa Express Newspaper will no longer
be delivered through the local mail. Our Community
News is now available FREE to everyone online!
When viewed online, you will see the same format,
but with beautiful coloured pictures. Also, we will
often have bonus articles not
found in the printed pa-
per! However, if you‟d still like a
paper copy, limited copies can be
picked up from Wawanesa Foods,
Heritage Co-op or Lucy‟s Flowers
& Gifts.

GARDEN: With sad
hearts, the family of
Murray (Moe) Donald
Garden announce his sud-
den passing on Thursday,
July 16th, 2020 in Nesbitt,
Manitoba at the age of 63.
Murray was born in Bran-
don, Manitoba on July 20,
1956. There he attended school at McLaren,
George Fitton and Harrison High, where he
made friends fast and many. He kept those
friendships throughout his life. Murray mar-
ried Glenda Gallinger in 1981. A family of
two daughters followed. They lived in Bran-
don until they moved to Nesbitt, MB in 1993
where they enjoyed rural life.
In his early years, he had various jobs. He
worked with a local dairy company, with
CPR, in construction and landscaping, with
the City of Brandon waste department and
more. Around 1982, he transferred to being
an Operator at the Brandon Wastewater
Treatment Plant, which included achieving
his wastewater and 3rd Class Power Engi-
neer tickets. After retiring from the City of
Brandon in 2010, he enjoyed casual work
with neighbouring farmers, doing spring
seeding and harvest help. Murray then
worked as the Nesbitt rural route mail deliv-
ery employee with Canada Post until his
time of passing.
Murray was a natural athlete, playing volley-
ball, baseball, curling and more. He spent his
youth enjoying the outdoors. Murray was an
avid fisherman, catching many Master An-
glers throughout his life and going on fishing
trips with family and friends. He was happy
to have taken a week-long fishing trip with a
friend to Cranberry-Portage a week before
his passing. Murray was a lifelong motorcy-
cle enthusiast and loved to hit the road.
He is survived by his wife Glenda (nee Gal-
linger), daughters Andrea Speirs, Erin Gar-
den (Dale Seafoot), and his grandchildren
Mardigan, Ethan, Vincent and Julia. He is
survived by his mother, Emma Garden and
sister, Diane Szczepanski, many extended
family members and dear friends. He is pre-
deceased by his father, Don Garden. A
graveside service was held at the Min-
newawa Cemetery on July 25th, 2020,
where Murray was laid to rest. The Urn
Bearers were grandsons Mardigan Garden
and Ethan Speirs. The eulogy was spoken by
Erin Garden and Dale Seafoot, as well as
nephew, Cory Szczepanski.
Murray was an amiable free spirit who lived
life to the fullest. He loved music, fishing,
motorcycles, football (Go Steelers!), and
had many beloved pets over his lifetime. He
was a loving husband, father, grandfather
and caretaker for his family.
Donations made in memory of Murray can
be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation,
1379 Kenaston Blvd., Winnipeg, MB, R3P
2T5 or an animal charity of your choice.
Thank you to celebrant, Kim Lewarne and
Brockie Donovan. Messages of
condolence may be placed at

Yes, we are “on the road” again, mak-
ing our faith journey in COVID 19 time!!
Regular Sunday worship will continue on
Facebook at 11:00 a.m.
Gatherings in this southwest region are
presently limited to ten people! We will stay
always within that number with our activi-
ties. There is to be “no” congregational sing-
ing so we rely on the wonderful (masked)
soloist we have amongst us, Shirley McBur-
ney.
We are especially blessed in having
Tannis Nostedt as our pianist; her talent on
piano (and organ) is a marvellous gift. Our
sincere appreciation to both Tannis and
Shirley for sharing their special talents in our
faith community!! There are also wonderful
times when our flautist, Maureen Fisher joins
us and adds to the uplifting sounds of
praise!! And… not to forget our talented
cameraman Kevin, whose expertise is im-
mense. Thanks Kevin.
Please join us Sundays at 11:00 a.m.
On Facebook, Search: „Wawanesa United
Church‟. We are encouraged by the response
we have received from a “wide” audience
online.
For the preset time, “Harvey” the min-
ister will be setting times to be at the office -
most likely Wednesdays, so that I can be
found. Circulating in the community is “not”
always a good idea during this COVID 19
time!! Please call if you wish to talk or if you
have a pastoral need. Our faith journey to-
gether continues!! The generations past made
their faith journey through difficult times, as
well.
“Therefore, since we are surrounded
by a great cloud of witnesses, let us lay
aside every weight and sin that clings so
closely and let us run with perseverance the
race that is set before us…” Hebrews 12:1
Let us follow in the path of faith of-
fered in Christ… love God… love our
neighbour… live in peace with all people.
Harvey

Join us, Bethel Wawanesa, at the Centennial Hall in Wawanesa, Manitoba on Sundays at 11:00 a.m. for ALPHA.

Have you or someone you know moved away from the community?
Please submit a photo and few lines update so we can include you in an upcoming issue.
Wilmer and Rosella Brandt In 1967 we decided to pack up our 3
young kids and move west to a farm near
Wawanesa. It was so beautiful, rolling hills,
a creek, and a ra-
vine. We lived
here for 32 years,
the best part of our
lives! Most won-
derful place to
raise our children.
In 1999 the old
buildings needed major repairs. The children
were grown up and moved away. It was a
sad time, but we felt it was best in our situa-
tion for a change. We bought a house in Lo-
rette, close to our son and his family so Wil-
mer could get a job on a farm. I was able to
work for Community Mental Health part
time. We were able to be a part of our Mani-
toba grandchildren‟s lives as they grew up.
We had 8 good years in Lorette and were
able to spend time with family. We went to
BC for part of the winter to spend time with
family. In 2007 Glenn and Bernice bought a
country place and planned to build a new
house. They offered that they could add a
granny suite and we could live in the coun-
try. The grandkids were growing up too and
beginning to start their own lives. We had 4
wonderful years in the country. Big garden
and some chickens were a bonus. Due to
unfortunate circumstances we had to move to
Landmark, into a side by side rental. We
were able to be there for our grandson after
school etc. and we spent many happy times
watching TV with him, sports and Sponge-
Bob were his favorites at the time. But
grandkids grow up as we get older. I was
told I could watch Sponge Bob all by myself
but as you Grandmas know it is not the
same. Things like kids‟ TV shows and mak-
ing a snowman need a grandchild. We
have recently moved into a new 55+ suite in
Transcona (an area in the very east of Wpg).
A wonderful place to live with many ser-
vices and programs for seniors, but still not
the same as your own place. Can a soul feel
truly at home in an apartment? When we
drive into Wawanesa and turn onto 340
north of town and cross the bridge, drive up
the hill and see our old farm, we get that
shiver up our spine (maybe a few tears) and
feel like we
are coming
